SO!  Since I hadn’t written in a good two weeks, I thought I’d allow myself a free write.  The prompt was, “I didn’t recognize you without the handcuffs.”  Some AkuNo for fun, but also for @nijuukoo who deserves some fics for her crack pairing.  <3  (There’s a bit of NSFW near the end, yay?)  Enjoy, darlings!

“Hey Rude.”  Reno nudged the officer who was tapping diligently at a precinct keyboard.  Rude only grunted in acknowledgment, attention still on his report.  “Isn’t that the kid you arrested last week?” The tapping paused as Rude glanced in the direction of Reno’s finger.  At least, Reno assumed he did; he could never really tell what was happening behind the sunglasses that seemed to be permanently attached to the man’s head.  Rude shrugged and resumed typing.  “Maybe.  He’s small fry.  Just a shoplifter.” Reno leaned on Rude’s desk.  “We could use some small fry.  Someone expendable for certain jobs, if you know what I mean.”  Rude raised an eyebrow.   “Excuse me.”  He didn’t wait for Rude to reply as he strode across the room.  He ignored the dirty looks that followed him.  He wasn’t welcome here, unless it was in handcuffs, but none of the other cops had anything to pin on him.  Reno was a legitimate businessman, and that drove these pigs mad.  Rude pissed them off, too, Reno’s inside man, but they hadn’t scraped anything up on him, either.  Nothing to prove he was a dirty cop.  A smile turned Reno’s lips up at the thought. His target was slouched in a chair against the wall, a scowl on his tattooed face, and Reno expected he’d have crossed his arms if the handcuffs on his wrists had allowed it.  Red hair, a shade darker than Reno’s own, in a cascade of spikes to his shoulders, which were stiff despite the relaxed posture he had adopted. Green eyes stared vacantly into the space in front of him.

Axel was pouring a cup of coffee, half-smoked cigarette hanging from his mouth, when there was a knock on his door.  His already-low mood plummeted. Most days, Axel had no problems with the occasional unannounced visitor.  In fact, he usually welcomed social calls from his friends, and would greet them at the door with a smile.  Most days, Axel hadn’t just woken up after a night of hard drinking, with a pounding headache and a queasy stomach.  The cigarette had taken the edge of the nausea, and the coffee was the first of several steps in quelling the headache, but he hadn’t gotten much farther.  He hadn’t even managed to get dressed yet, and when another knock sounded at the door, he let out a low curse and decided that, whoever it was would just have to deal with seeing his bony ass in his drawers. “Coming!” Axel’s voice was hoarse around his cigarette.  He wiped a hand over his face, fairly certain it would do nothing, and not caring.  He just wanted the knocking to stop. He fumbled with his lock for a moment, registered that the deadbolt wasn’t locked—he must’ve forgotten it in his drunken haze—and pulled the door open. Admittedly, his synapses were running on a lag with his hangover, so for a moment all he did was stare at the person standing on the other side of his door. “And here I thought I was the only one that could pull of that shade of red so well.”  The man smiled, an expression that turned his already sharp features into something approaching vulpine.

Initially I only wanted to draw Rude, but what’s Rude without Reno (and vice versa)? Also apologies for tampering with Rude’s eye colour, but I really dig the dark skin/light eyes combo (am I going to get into trouble for saying that, Tumblr)?

Feel like my art’s been stagnating for a while now. Need to start playing with and learning new things again…
