I Honestly Don’t Get My Mom’s Taste
So, my mom asked for a recommendation on what great books to read, and I quickly answered “To Kill a Mockingbird” because I LOVE that book so much! I thought she would be intrigued and fascinated by the themes of that novel, the same way I was intrigued and fascinated the first time I read it, but somehow when she got to start reading it, she stopped because she found it “boring.” I told myself not to make a big deal out of it because after all, not everyone likes the same thing, but I only managed to hold that thought for so long because yesterday, I found her buying “Fifty Shades of Grey” and she read it. Like, she freaking read and finished it in one day! And she said she loved it!
So, she wouldn’t read “To Kill a Mockingbird,” but she will read “Fifty Shades of Grey”? Go figure, Mom. I mean, I guess it’s preferences and don’t get me wrong, I respect her likes, but as a bookworm, I suppose it’s a lesson for me: I could not share to her my opinions about books and all those things because her league is so different from mine. We might end up arguing because what she likes is my dislike and vice versa.
PS, I still can’t believe she wouldn’t read “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Who wouldn’t want to read “To Kill a Mockingbird”? That book, to me, is a proof of pure genius. I seriously hope I’m not the only one who thought this.
