I'm very dissapointed with AECOM's lackluster pre-design envisioning for Centennial Park. It's one of the most significant spaces in Atlanta, and one of the most controversial, and it seems they only want to continue to expand the generic. Although in a genericity like Atlanta, place-making has always been problematic, wherein a city with a multitude of centers actually can be argued to have none. AECOM certainly could step back and view the project less in terms of pragmatics and more in terms of what Atlanta is and wants. If we continue to address only contemporary concerns, we can never anticipate future needs of the city, much less a historical perspective of the space based on evacuation and destruction, a further hallmark of Atlantan urbanism.
