THE HANDMAID'S TALE — 01.02 - "Birth Day" (2017)
mini rant about Luke on June being in Canada vs Nick on June being in Canada
i absolutely HATE Luke for violating June's privacy when she explicitly said she didn't want him there. that's very selfish of him. it really irked me when he said "but at least now I know everything" -- girl this isn't about you wtf -- and for him to say that maybe they can just move on? the lack of empathy angered me so much. the way Moira, June's best friend, needed to tell him to be patient with June...? isn't that a given, knowing your wife suffered (for a lack of a better word) for seven fucking years? you didn't have to know what happened to her to be able to empathize with her -- that should be a given, considering you love her! but no, it's not about June, it's always about Luke, him, and how he lost his wife and his daughter, how he failed to save them.
luckily my anger was replaced with heartache on how Nick loves June so much. even being married off to a Wife, he still thinks of her and how he can help her. i nearly cried when he said he put some stuff together about Hannah for June because he knows she will always look for her despite being free. i love how Nick loves June unconditionally -- always making ways for her to be free, even knowing he won't see her again. that subtle nod he gave June when the Marthas were aiding her and Nichole to get out; other guys would kill for a chance to say goodbye and botch up the escape plan, but Nick didn't do that.
I'm not saying Luke has to be a fucking spy to be a decent lover to June but being empathetic and patient with her is the least he can do and HE CAN'T EVEN DO THAT. so yes, I'm team Nick 😾👎

Nick moods…
This week has been awesome 😍
Nick Blaine deserves this much love and more.
And The Handmaid’s Tale needs MORE👏 NICK👏BLAINE👏!!
The way June nods her head and says yeah when Nick mentions that he should have run away with her when he had the chance 😭. Nick being loved so openly and without hesitation is everything! Our boy feels so loved 😭
he was loved and happy and he deserved every second of it. if he could have gotten them all to hawaii in that moment he absolutely would have
nick/june + being really bad at flirting, part 2 (part 1)
Nick + June + Holly (+pics of Hannah) basked in golden light= they are the lights of each other’s lives and keep each other strong. A light in the darkness. A guide for a better path. Hope for the future. A warm and loving family.
Can we talk about how June always runs towards nick?!? Like after that final scene in ep 3, it reminded me of the scene at the Winslow’s mansion in the snow, she doesn’t let her feelings towards nick to be that obvious, but in moments like those you can see how much he means to her...Also, CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW SHE TOLD HIM THAT SHE LOVED HIM?!? She didn’t need to say it, nick wasn’t waiting for it, but it came from inside her, they have been through so much! And still love each other deeply, after all that happened at s3, I didn’t know where her feelings landed, but this was a special surprise, specially since it’s only the second time she says it! IN FOUR SEASONS !!!
their love? unstoppable. 😔
okay one last thing about nick blaine that should have a proper analysis
the way he softly & gently shows his love to june: the way the touches her, the way he talks to her, the little gestures that comfort her, the way he waits for her to feel comfortable enough around him, the way he lets her have her space, just the things he says to her- he lives this love for june in such a soft & 'free' way, rarely have i seen a character so gentle
bye

After all the negativity I’ve read today, I needed to try to put into words why I think this male character is perfection.
I honestly think Nick is the least misogynistic male character in the show. I’ve always thought misogyny is something that is kind of engraved on people, especially men through society/culture. Something they do even without noticing. Yet Nick has always been portrayed as anything but. Even his brief interactions with Beth were like this even when it was implied they had a physical relationship. Even when he shuts her down, after he started sleeping with June (and they weren’t technically a relationship per se)
He was worried about her mental health and he risked himself by trying to get her help. That resulted in him being forced to marry a 15 year old girl which after seeing this episode again he looks totally disgusted and devastated by.
When he gives Luke the letters and tells her what he said, everything, it was totally selfless. And he knew that could push her away from him but he knew it was important to her.
The way he’s always treated June, looked at her. He always give her the time and space to be herself. To say what she wants to say and to be who she wants to be. Even when he’s mad. He waits patiently for her to decide. And he’s always there to comfort her, as much as he can given the circumstance. He’s her raft, her anchor. And even though it’s all about her he doesn’t seem like the push over type. He’s still a man with a purpose.
And when he kisses her there’s always a deeper connection, it isn’t just about sex. It’s like he’s saying so much with the kiss. And he gets her physically speaking giving her what she needs to feel like herself. He makes her feel wanted, protected, loved.
And his sacrifices and risks. His complete dedication and protection without being overbearing or taking away her agency is amazing. It’s like he’s her other half, her complement. The are in perfect harmony and balance.
He’s maybe faltered twice, when he was cold to Eden not realizing what the end was going to be (and he carries tremendous guilt over it) and when he did everything he could to get her to talk to save her. Because even when he arrested her she knew he did what he had to do because he wanted her alive.
