“Do not be deceived”.
How sweet was it to see the power shift between Fred and Nick. For so long Nick was forced to stand by and watch Fred abuse his power and hurt not just June but countless others. And now finally Nick got to use his power to ensure that Fred gets exactly what he deserves while also helping June (and the handmaids) take back their agency that Fred & Gilead stole from them.

i find Lizzie’s directing to be refreshingly straightforward with its symbolism. one thing i liked from last night’s episode was how she uses low angle shots on Commanders to illustrate power, but in vastly different ways.
Let’s go over the low angle shot definition real quick. It’s pretty obviously a shot in which the subject is captured by the cinematographer from below. It requires the camera to be positioned low on the vertical axis, below the eye line. The shot gives the psychological effect of making the subject look strong and powerful… Imposing. You can also subvert a low camera angle to make a once strong subject look powerless now. (x)
in Waterford and Putnam’s power shot there is nothing behind them, showing us that they answer to no one.
in Nick’s power shot he has Jesus looming over his shoulder, showing us that unlike the other Commanders, he answers to God.
A man reaps what he sows.
Thank you.

THE HANDMAID’S TALE | 4x10 – “The Wilderness”
Nick Blaine delivering Fred Waterford to June Osborne like a knight delivering a prisoner for his queen to execute is the most fucking feminist thing I have ever seen.
we stan a king 👑
I loved how June was smitten with Nick after the kiss for a couple seconds, her face was so soft and pure. It’s like even in the middle of absolute chaos, he still sweeps her off her feet and it’s beautiful to watch. She take her time to enjoy their moment together even if it’s just for a few seconds. Then her face changes and she’s back to business. I love both soft and badass June sm.
june @ nick as he dropped fred off for her to kill:
june @ fred 3 seconds later:

I just have to ask you, as a fan of Nick/June, how satisfying was that ending for you where they team up together & make out in front of this horrid man who put the two of them through hell and back (obviously June more so). The only regret I have is that Nick wasn’t able to have one quick line about HIS daughter/family with June.
Also, Luke’s reaction to it vs Nick, who actively participated. How do you think S5 is going to kick off with Luke/June?
I think what I love most about the kiss is that even though it's an act of power on both of their parts to be open with their affection in front of Fred, they didn't do it to make a point to Fred, they just went with their instinct which is always to be physically affectionate when close, it's how they connect and the fact that they relish in each other as a "I love you" "thank you" in front of Fred before Fred's death is the point. Such a satisfying kiss.
I just went in depth about Luke's reaction vs Nick's, so I'll let you read that post if you're interested, haha, but in terms of moving forward, I think June made her choice, which is that she can't be in Luke or Holly's lives anymore. She watches him and Moira with Holly through the window before leaving and when she returns she says that she'll leave after five minutes with Holly so I think she's said goodbye to Luke and I think Luke finally realizes that the June he knew and wants isn't coming back, now I don't know how he's going to react to this June, I don't know if he'll try to find her, if he feels like he needs to get her help, or if he'll focus on Holly.
Do we know that nick meant with that bible verse?? An analysis or something? I don’t know about the Bible and stuff so I’m kinda lost !
i don't know anything about the bible either but i think he meant "my girlfriend is god and it's time to pay for your sins bitch"
I don't think he was quite calling June 'God' lol. Also wouldn't be surprised if he was, tho.
But I do think he was using it to remind Fred of all the ways he and the Gilead founders/leaders had used God and the Bible to force their own agendas on people. It felt like he was saying, 'You twisted it to work for you, you made a mockery of God and His power, and now He's making a mockery of you and your power.'
I don't think Nick believes in God, or at least not the benevolence of God. But Fred supposedly does. And this is his judgment day- God letting him die at the hands of 'the weaker sex', and his 'superiority' and 'righteousness' as a man aren't saving him.
“I’m glad this could be arranged so quickly. I had to pull a few strings, but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to show you how much I appreciate all you’ve done for me.” - Fred Waterford to Nick Blaine (Episode 2x05)
okay but are we going to talk about how genuinely funny waterford’s reaction to nick and june making out right in front of him was
