This is a photograph of the 1936 Huntsville High School football team. Robert A. Werner, whose daughter Lynne donated the collection, is located third from the left on the second row, wearing number 57.

Huntsville High School football team, 1955
Most of the football material found in University Archives covers Sam Houston State University, but we do have a few items related to the nearby high school as well.
These pictures are of the Huntsville Hornets football team on September 14, 1955. The top picture is just a standard team photo of the 1955 team (not taken in September 1955). The two on the bottom are of the team departing for Alaska on September 14, 1955 to take part in the Santa Claus Bowl in Anchorage. There was a pep-rally to send Coach Cecil Willis and the team off. The article from the Huntsville Item provides details on the trip including the purchase of a new bus with reclining seats so that the 26 boys for the squad could travel in comfort. I hope they realize that the weather is much different in Alaska than in Texas and that cowboy hats and boots isn't going to cut it.
