Stories about them;

+ Yin & Yang;

The basic Taoist concept of Yin-Yang is based upon the idea that two natural, complementary and contradictory forces exist in our universe: Yin – the feminine, and Yang – the masculine.  All forces can be classified as either Yin or Yang.  These opposite forces mutually complement one another and are in dynamic equilibrium.  As one aspect declines, the other increases to an equal degree — striving for that harmonious equilibrium of BALANCE that we all seek. (Source).

Chobei and Toma really fits yin and yang, both as characters and their harmony.

Yang represents the light and its characteristics include those that are “masculine”, active, producing, and rational such as: Enthusiastic, Direct, Mental, Excited, Outgoing, Logical, Day, Heaven/Air, Sun, Fire, Hardness, Dryness, Joy, Reactive, Upward seeking, Fast, Restless, Productive, Hot, Summer, Activity, Function, Expansive, Outward, Back of Body, Rigid, Unwavering, Dominant, Controlling, Positive, Full, Even Numbers, Shiva, the contents. (Source).

Chobei is yang. He is very masculine character. He is natural leader so of course, he is outgoing. He is all about adaptation. Has self confidence. Very direct with his desires and also loud. Obviously dominant and active. He is light for his brother. He was born in summer. Etc Etc.

Yin represents the dark and its characteristics include those that are “feminine”, passive, receptive, and sensitive such as:  Nurturing, Intuitive, Relaxed, Imaginative, Quiet, Introverted, Night, Earth, Moon, Water, Softness, Moisture, Sadness, Contemplative, Downward seeking, Slow, Consuming, Cold, Winter, Rest, Structure, Contracting, Inward, Front of body, Mutable, Bending, Allowing, Negative, Empty, Odd Numbers, Shakti, the container. (Source).

Toma is yin. Yin symbolize feminity which fits Toma’s character design and behavours. He has female-ish design, and behavours (for example, he often plays with his hair), also has soft-seductive touch. He is very negative character who often worries about things which makes him slow. Very quiet, introverted, passive and distant character who tends to obey. His tao element is earth which also symbolize yin. He was born in autumn, this also can be read as yin. Etc etc.

And their story and character development is all about them ‘balancing the harmony’ between them. Their origin of characters dont change. Chobei is still yang and Toma is still yin. At the end, they just learn to be equal as yin and yang.

Basically, we can say clearly, their characters are based on yin and yang. They are written be soulmates.

+ Blue Oni & Red Oni;

Chobei and Toma also kinda reminds me of Blue oni and Red oni.

The Red Oni is associated with passion, wildness, and defiance. A Red Oni character is often more brawny than brainy, extroverted, enthusiastic, determined, and filled with a zest for life. They are also much more likely to break conventions and rules than their counterpart.
The Blue Oni is associated with serenity, control and observing authority. A Blue Oni is more intellectual, proud, traditional, introverted, and cultured (sometimes more spiritual, although that’s not guaranteed), if a Blue Oni is indeed physically strong, they tend to be Genius Bruisers, with the calm, collected intelligence of a typical Blue Oni character combined with the physical prowess of a typical Red Oni character.

For their design and characters, Chobei is similar to Red Oni and Toma is similar to Blue Oni. Oni (demon) metaphor fits them too since they are bandits. And just like onis, brothers were outcasted for something they had no control of by other people.

Original story is about two friends. Red Oni and Blue oni. Red oni is hot-headed, Blue oni is calm one. People are scared of them because they are oni. Red oni wants to be friends with humans so blue oni decides to help him. He plays to bad guy to humans and Red oni saved the day so people accept red oni as hero. Red oni returns back to Blue oni but find out that blue oni is gone because if humans find out, they are friends, that he can be outcasted again which makes Red oni sad but well, story is about kindness of Blue oni. (Source).

Though, with Chobei and Toma, Chobei fits the role of Blue oni more. He always make sacrifices for Toma (even though he never asks for it) who learns to connect with others and become strong enough to survive on his own in story.

There are so many things to say about them but for now, thats it.

Aza Chobei’s Yellow Flower Symbol;

Unlike pink or red roses, yellow roses are all about platonic love and friendship. Often sent as a get well gift, yellow roses also represent happiness, delight, and new beginnings.

Yellow roses have several meanings, such a jeolosy, for celebration, for friendship and all but i think in this case, it symbolzes platonic love. If Chobei’s have yellow rose symboles, its fitting for his character because main core of his character is his love for his little brother Toma. Especially third picture’s flower is protected by horns whih can be seen as Chobei’s protector side of Toma, he is protecting him like a precious flower but also making him fragile and vulnerable to the outside. And admiration part symbolize might Toma’s admiration for his big brother too.

Oldest Child Syndrome + Brother Complex

Oldest Child Syndrome is believed by some to be evidence of common characteristics that can be attributed to birth order. These traits of first-born children include a sense of entitlement, responsibility, and ambition. Many of the qualities of oldest child syndrome stem from taking care of younger siblings, which contribute to the development of a mature and effective leader. Nevertheless, the stress that comes from feeling “dethroned” by the birth of younger siblings may also result in some less than positive qualities such as jealousy and competitiveness.

Signs;

1. They might want to lead and dominate

Firstborn children are thrust into a leadership position when their younger siblings arrive. Leading and helping their younger siblings become an ingrained habit they carry forward even in their future. But if they become dominating instead of leading, it becomes a sign of the oldest child syndrome.

2. They might have a constant urge to be perfect

A study conducted in 2008 states that the firstborns tend to be perfectionists and have higher standards. They can also be called ‘achievers.’ It is fine until they know their limits. If they become aggressive or depressed when they cannot achieve or when their sibling wins, it becomes an unhealthy trait.

3. They might have the pressure of parent’s expectations

Due to their constant urge to be perfect and tendency to please their parents, older children have greater academic pressure than their younger siblings. Also, parents expect their oldest children to be a role model for their younger siblings in every aspect, including academics. The pressure from the parents and the need to excel could take them into a zone where they cannot accept failure, which could become problematic in their latter years of life.

4. They may have high self-esteem

According to Adler’s theory and multiple studies in recent times, it has been found that older children tend to have higher self-esteem and confidence. It helps them in their academic performance and professionalism but may not be helpful in social life. High self-esteem could lead to ego, and if they are not humble and do not have gratitude, others might not accept them

5. They might develop an unhealthy competitive attitude

When the sibling rivalry and jealousy on the sibling’s arrival is not handled properly by parents, the firstborn can hold it as a grudge against their parents or their younger sibling. This creates an unhealthy competitive attitude even after growing up—a sign of the oldest child syndrome.

6. They might become obsessive

The oldest child becomes a protector of the younger ones. It is a good quality until it turns extreme.

If you find your child going overboard trying to make something perfect to the level of obsession, it is unhealthy for them and the younger siblings. Even the younger children may get used to the protection and become dependent, while the oldest ones could lose themselves to their siblings and become obsessive.

7. They may act as a second-parent to their siblings

When parents have their second child, they encourage their firstborns to care for their younger siblings. Many a time, this gives rise to a sibling bond where the firstborn becomes a second-parent figure to the younger sibling. Some oldest children may develop parental feelings and responsibility towards their younger siblings, evident in their personalities and behavior.

It goes smooth until the attachment is within boundaries. Otherwise, it could be harmful to both. They might expect the younger sibling to start obeying them like they obey their parents.

8. They might become controlling

In their quest for perfection and achievements, first born children may develop a tendency to control everything around them, including their younger siblings. Their inherent tendency to lead and the power to act as a second-parent to their younger siblings can be the reason why some oldest children become overly controlling.

To be able to overcome this, adressing the problems, equality, sharing the burden, connecting with others is important. Though, the reason why they become like this makes sense because of their story. I think they would still be really close even they have normal life.

Brother complex (Japanese: ブラザーコンプレックス) refers to a state of strong attachment and obsession to brothers. It is also commonly abbreviated as “brocon” (ブラコン),[2][3][4] and in this case, it is also used for brothers and sisters who have a strong attachment and obsession to their brothers.

Signs;

It happens when siblings are too close. They have the relationship the romantic couples have, (similar to marriage life) or they might attract to people similar to their sibling or they might be paralles with canon incest relationship or love interest or partnership. Basically, they become your partner. They spend time together a lot. They talk about with/about each others a lot. They are the center of each other’s life. Their conversation/behavours might be flirtous, such as ‘You are handsome/cute’. Etc etc etc. There are more details but for now, thats it.

Says “I know a spot”

» And then Gabimaru takes you to see the sunset [shija spies you from a bush]

» And then Chōbei takes you to cause some public nuisance together [he carves your initials on some wall and then burns them]

» And then Tōma takes you shopping to the best stores in the capital [doesn't pay and you both end up running down the street, flying from the police]

» And then Yuzuriha takes you on a thrilling ride over the steep rooftops of the capital [you almost fell off the roof, perfect opportunity for her to be your heorin]

» And then Gantetsusai takes you on a date to dine alone together and for free in the best restaurant [he threatened the owner with cutting off his head]
