Hey Ness! first of all , thank you so much for all the videos and tips that provide! they are really helpful <3 as a comic artist , what do you think are the essential skills for to start making your own comics ? i really love your a&a comics and would love to make my own some day.

Hmmm.... there’s so many different style for Comics, it depends on what you want to do.

The most important to me is to be the clearest possible. I will always chose boring composition to make things clear if I see that the fancy one is not working.

There’s a lot of tricks that you learn with experience. The best is getting good at measurement. Which is something I’m half-assing XD...

I love your art! I wanted to ask how long have you been working for blizzard and if you had some advice for young artists who are ready to throw themselves in the hellfire of illustration and concept art. Thank you very much!

I’ve been working for blizzard for 2years and a half now. I don’t really have any advice as I never wanted to be a conceptartist or illustrator ( I see myself more as a comic artist…).

Just keep in mind that concept art and illustration, even though they are sharing some common skills,  require different approaches. Some artists can do everything but sometimes it’s cool to specialize into just one field and make the best of it. You can definitely do both, I started my conceptart journey (professionally) few month ago actually... And it’s taking me sometimes to understand all codes behind it.

Just keep in mind:

Conceptart is not the definitive product , it’s a piece that will help someone else producing the final product.

Illustration is the final product.

My 2 cents.

Is there a trick to making your flat 1 brush blend the way does for you in your videos? no matter how softly I stroke you can tell there is one color on top another. I havent touched the settings and I am sure my cintiq has tilt.

my sensitivity is very light I hardly put any pressure on the pen when I want to do soft edges and do a lot of colorpicking in between too. Just tweak the graphic to fit your sensitivity.

Hi Ness! First of all I wanna say that you are my favorite artist ^^ thank you for inspire other people do art! My question is, in the begging of you career what do you study more and how? also any others tips for who is starting now?

Wow I thought tumblr deleted the message functions a long time ago. Haven’t check the messages for years... sorry...

At the begining I was studying from photography on deviantart (there’s probably better options now ) and then switched to drawing outside with a sketchbook, doing quick drawing of people.

“Style”

People often asking me how do I get my « style » what are my inspirations and so on. I do have a lot of inspirations. But what mainly build up my style is what I decided to learn by myself and not from books, of course I can recommend a some good anatomy books/websites.

But what shapes your vision is how you decide to understand things, almost every artists will tell you that a good understanding of anatomy is important  and so on. I don't think so, at least that's how I built up my vision. My understanding of anatomy or anything else is bad.

Learning things by yourself forces to understand what you can and not everything that it is given to you. AND how you can interpret it.

I understood a long time ago: it's impossible to know everything.

My art style is a balance about what I understand, what I want to understand, what I will never understand, stuffs that I interpreted wrong and deal with it.

Style is just defining how you want to see and understand the world. It might be technically good or bad. It's not about that, it's about how good you are convincing people that you're vision can be something they like.

For Cintiq pro and Mobile Studio pro user on Windows, this is how to improve accuracy of calibration by 100%. Panel property of the tablet will look shrunk but it’s fine you can use it. For the cintiq pro 16 I highly recommend to not go 4K with the adapter it screws up the calibration, so you should stay in 2K. But if you have USB-C port it is fine.

For mac user, you don’t need to do anything, but I highly recommend to stay 2K with the adapter with the cintiq pro 16 if you don’t have USB-C, even though the calibration works properly at 4K you’ll have some issue with how the cursor react (it will compute as a 2K display while you have 4K...)

Hello! I love your illustrations of Carolina Bebey and Jiao Wong. Do you have videos of your process drawing them? Also how are you able to get lighting at the right angles in all of your works? It really brings your work to life which I greatly admire.

Avatar

Hi, no videos for those.

I usually just get a rough idea of the right angle and try to make shapes interesting.

Hi! I've been following since forever. Your Reinhardt's Dragon Slayer was the reason I bought Overwatch. I admire your work, specially you pin-up males. I'm an artist too, but amateur one and wondering what sources you use as ref to draw beard. Currently, I have a design work and struggle with his beard. I hope you could be able to help me with this. Thank you in advance. I use your Reinhardt as my avatar by the way, hope you don't mind.

I was wondering if you have the newest intuos pro tablet, how long do your nibs last? I had an intuos pro back in 2014 and those nibs used to last me atleast a year. The new one feels so much smaller and seem to last me about a day or two.

I have the very last one , It last 1day at the begining , now i’m changing it every week.

Wacom is pure bull****. :3
