The biggest most relevant statistic the entire election and especially last night was the gender gap and Bernie Sanders has the gall to say that all the men that voted for more oppression of women, less reproductive rights for women, were “right to want change” because burger is $6 like of all the most Old Ass White Man statements he could have made…
It’s weird cuz I experimented with being more casual about the election to see what a regular would see. Kamala talked about the economy and how she would fix things. The worst thing was they kept saying Biden made things better which probs didn’t land with anyone cuz we still have highly reduced purchasing power. So her being nice about Biden didn’t help. And maybe the vibe of the dems was off but yeah Bernie was way off base.
I’m somehow less shocked than I was in 2016 but also more despondent. 2016 was a violent shock to my system. I cried the whole night. Now I just feel a deep unending ache in me. What an awful year.
I think also there was some minor comfort in 2016 knowing that he lost the popular vote. We could tell ourselves that We The People didn’t actually choose him.
The People spoke this time though and they decided that they don’t care that he is who he is they just want eggs to “cost less” and fewer immigrants by any means necessary, damn the repercussions.
I don’t know where we go from here.
I’m trying not to be fatalistic here but I do think that there is a reality check that is going to come within the next year that will change us all. This will not be like last time. This will be so very much worse.
In 2016 I was told by many people in my life that I was being hysterical for knowing in my bones that abortion was going to die after he won because that’s what he said he was going to do and you should believe fascists when they say what they’re going to do. God help us all if he does everything he’s said he’s going to do this time.
Last time he did, at least in retrospect, have a few people around him who believed in the American government and how it’s supposed to work. Last time he didn’t know how things worked and which levers to push. He does now. This time it’ll be exclusively people like JD Vance (evil), RFK jr (stupid), and Elon Musk (evil and stupid). The one saving grace will be that Trump is so tempestuous that none of them are likely to stay around for long. We can only hope their replacements are not even worse than them.
The second he’s in office Alito and Thomas are retiring from the Supreme Court and he’s installing two 35 year olds who make Kavanaugh look like Bernie Sanders. They’re going to overturn Obergefell and any number of other civil rights won over the decades.
He’s going to raze Gaza to the ground. All of it. Same with Ukraine. He might even break the nuclear taboo to do it.
He’s going to start rounding people up. He’s going to prosecute his “enemies”. He’s said he’s going to do it and I believe him. Protect yourself. Protect yourself.
I don’t know where we go from here. There is an evil in this country that has existed since its original sin. I had deluded myself into thinking at least a majority of us were trying to be better than that. I was wrong.
can we as a people finally start admitting that if bernie had conceded quickly and gracefully before the 2016 dnc, or at least had not started darkly muttering about corporate whore conspiracy theories before the 2016 dnc, we absolutely would not be here

I thinkkk a lot factored into this election swinging in Donald’s favor, and I think we are underestimating inflations impact on it. The Biden administration should have been more aggressive on stopping corporations from rising cost but instead he just let the feds raise interest rates which punishes the work class.

It’s funny to think the dnc rigged for Hillary when her dnc convention was so dry and boring compared to Obama and Kamala. There was no each state does some cute thing with really fun lighting. Like if anything the dnc hate Hillary cuz she’s the only one with a boring convention in the past 12 years. Idk if Obama 2012 was a more subdue one.
I love that trumps reality distortion field has broken. When they were this deranged about Hillary, people accepted it probs cuz she reminds white people of their moms. But it turns out running a woc breaks conservatives brains so much that they can’t do anything without alienating people.
Tons of us have been calling trump people weird for years and it fell of deaf ears. But now we are down so many rights that we were just looking for something to hold onto so people who want what trump is giving look more insane.
It shows that being afraid of promoting woc isn’t smart because people in mass are more likely to see how insane people sound talking poorly about them than white women. I wish Hillary was treated with as much respect from the left as Kamala has now and it shows how bad just sexism is. If trumpets had just stuck to sexism they might have pulled it off but they’re so obviously racist and people hate obvious racists. They were obviously racist the whole time from my view the whole time. And it is interesting/sad that people don’t care about how he talks about Mexicans, they only care how he talks about Kamala. I’d be interested to see how this plays out for identity politics because under our previous logic none of what’s happening makes sense.
But yeah don’t be afraid to promote woc. It’s regressive to assume people will react poorly to them in the ways people were saying. I’m glad Kamala Harris broke trumps spell.
