how to effectively organise flashcards

organising flashcards can help you to enhance your study sessions and retain information better. here are some tips:

  1. decide on your flashcard preference. choose between digital apps like anki, memrise and quizlet or traditional paper flashcards. personal preference plays a role here; some prefer the tactile feel of paper, while others appreciate the convenience of digital. try to keep all of your flashcard sets in the same app, or place.
  2. use visual aids. incorporate pictures and symbols to replace text when possible. this encourages active engagement with the material rather than rote memorization.
  3. colour coding. use different colours for questions and answers to help organise your cards and make it easier to focus on the content you're reviewing. for example, the cards for mathematics may be one colour and english may be another colour (maths is red guys, english is blue, science is green).
  4. arrange the flashcards into order of importance or difficulty. start with the ones you find most challenging to reinforce those concepts.
  5. develop a system for reviewing flashcards. for example, you may decide to use the leitner system which involves moving cards through different boxes based on how well you know the material.

i hope this post helps.

re-starting 100 days of productivity

last time i made a promise to myself that i would do 100 days of productivity (march 9). i broke that promise, only posting consistently for 14 days.

and i think it was because of these things.

  1. i had too many non-negotiables, which made starting each day overwhelming
  2. i didn't let posting become a habit, and gave up when it got hard
  3. i was focusing on achieving 100 days when i was still only a couple days in. i need to simply focus on the days around me--getting better than i was yesterday, and setting myself up for tomorrow.

and so, here are my new non-negotiables:

  1. daily posts and that means posts that i write on the day! not scheduled posts!
  2. eating wholesome foods that are good for my mind and body
  3. maintaining the habits that i have built of: study, sleep, stretching and training

i'm going to begin today. good luck me, i guess.

flashcards

flashcards are a study tool that aids in memorization. they typically consist of a card bearing information on both sides, with a question or definition on one side and the answer or term on the other. flashcards can be used for various subjects, such as vocabulary, historical dates or formulae, and are effective because they involve active learning through self-testing and spaced repetition. they can be created physically with paper and pen or digitally using software.

here are some tips to create flashcards that are effective and engaging:

  1. phrase your flashcards as questions: instead of simply writing a term or concept, phrase it as a question. this encourages active recall, which is more effective for memory retention.
  2. use the specification: refer to your exam boards specification or past exam papers to ensure your flashcards cover the necessary material and help with exam technique.
  3. one idea, one flashcard: keep your flashcards simple. each should contain one question and one answer. this makes it easier for your brain to process and remember the information.
  4. engaging questions: write questions that are interesting and thought-provoking. avoid one-word answers; instead, aim for answers that make you think about the topic in depth.
  5. regular review: use your flashcards regularly and shuff them often to avoid simply memorizing the order. spaced repetition is the key to long-term retention.

personally, i don't enjoy using flashcards so i'd like to add that everyone is very different and we all learn and enjoy various things. what works for someone online may not work for you. you just have to try and find out.

i hope you find the post helpful.
