Something about having an universal translator, and learning to understand without it
16:9 TV is homophobic.
Bring back 4:3 so the actors have to nearly kiss just to be in frame again
I named no shows but this has already been reblogged with the tag #star trek
Try standing this close to someone who without them thinking you're going in for a kiss, I dare you.
MEN SHOULD STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH OTHER MEN AND LOOK DEEPLY INTO EACH OTHER'S EYES
(women should do this with other women too, #feminism #yuri)
I kinda want to make a side blog that's just pairs of men or women staring into each other's eyes up close, but it's just because they're in 4:3, the only aspect ratio with built in homoerotic tension
4:3 is "there's only one bed" of aspect ratios.
there is only 4:3, so they have to stand so close they can almost taste each other when they speak.
See? 4:3 is the best aspect ratio.

Happy Amok Time Day, friendly reminder that Theodore Sturgeon, the writer of the episode, is credited with the first positive portrayal of homosexuality in science fiction with his short story The World Well Lost (1953), 14 years before Amok Time aired. Which could mean nothing.
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION // S6E21 Frame of Mind You bet I'm agitated! I may be surrounded by insanity, but I am not insane. And nothing you or anyone else can say will change that. And I won't let you or anyone else tell me that I am. You may be able to destroy my mind, but you can't change the fact that I'm innocent. I didn't kill that man! And that's what's driving you crazy.
Cannikin1701 has recreated classic scenes from The Original Series with the new Enterprise from Discovery/Strange New Worlds. (Or rather, the straight-nacelled concept that John Eaves had conceived of.)
I especially like this one riffing on ‘Tomorrow is Yesterday’ that imitates the ‘real’ UFO footage the DoD released in 2017.
I'm really looking forward to 2024.
No, I still don't have a job, I still can't finish my novel, I still haven't worked out what I want my writing career to look like, and I have no practical plan for any of these things to change.
But it IS the year Gabriel Bell starts the riot that will lay the foundation for an egalitarian future!

Exploring some of the Star Trek ship lineage. It's very spotty and kinda haphazard. I'd probably write my own timeline – I think I already started on one for my project. Drew quite a few alts for Botany Bay (Khan's sleeper ship), which was launched in... 1996, yeah.
Even after the Defiant's overall design was settled, the scale was still in flux. Here is Jim Martin's interior concept - a much smaller ship with the bridge in the "nose" section.

Reblog if it's the same year as it was yesterday, 2024
