A Love Letter To Iceland Hungary-based photographer Gabor Nagy shares his love letter to Iceland.
“Dear Iceland, you know how much I love you. You gave me so much in the last 5 years. A reason to believe, a new passion and new friendships. Every summer I just waited to touchdown in Keflavík to finally admire your natural beauty again. And you’ve never disappointed me. Ever. Now it’s summer again and I already miss you like never before, but this year I don’t think I will be able to meet you for obvious reasons. The only thing I can do is to scroll through my catalogs and share the most memorable moments you offered me. “

Ostmen, or as we call them, Vikings
Here are some facts about everyone’s favorite farmers and sea raiders.
- In a single raid on Britain around the year 1000, the Vikings used a fleet of eighty “dragon ships”, each carrying 100 soldiers
- The Icelandic language is remarkably similar to Old Norse. Icelandic schoolchildren have no difficulties reading the Eddas and the sagas, which are the great epics written in Old Norse
- A Viking longboat would require around 80 oak trees to build
- They bathed at least once a week, way more frequently than contemporaneous Christians’ once-a-year baths
- A kingdom that the Vikings founded on the Isle of Man lasted until the early 1400s, when the island voluntarily submitted to King Henry IV of England
