POC Eating Disorder Zine Looking for Contributions!

I am Not White and I Have an Eating Disorder!
Project of Nalgona Positivity Pride
  • Are you a person of color who has struggled or is currently struggling with an eating disorder*?
  • Have you faced barriers in your journey because you do not represent the eating disorder stereotype?
  • Does your life intersect with multiple identities and experiences that have made your relationship with food distinct?

We are looking for:

  • People of color of all gender/sexual orientation identities.
  • Stories that reveal the intrinsic truth of our experiences as folxs of color with food problems.
  • Honesty, vulnerability, and individuality.
  • Stories that include more than recovery stories.
  • Art, poetry(limited inquiries will be accepted), doodles, comics, reflections, nonfiction stories

Deadline: May 15th 2015

*implies all dysfunctional relationships with food, body image, & exercise that may or may not be diagnosed by the medical industrial complex

Suggestions:

  • What does decolonizing body love mean to you?
  • What was your experience inside a 12-step program or professional eating disorder institution?
  • Did you receive support from family and friends?
  • How were your relationships affected by your eating disorder?
  • Do you have a dual diagnosis?

Reminder that reproductive rights are about more than abortion; the nonconsensual sterilisation of trans people, disabled people, working class people and people of colour is a reproductive rights issue

It has been pointed out to me that intersex people also face forced sterilisation and I apologise for not including them in the original post!

On December 2, 2014, dear friend and board member of Queerability Ki’tay Davidson passed away in his sleep. Ki’tay was an extraordinary leader and activist for all marginalized communities. His impact on all of our communities is immeasurable, and he will be greatly missed.

His family has set up a memorial fund if you would like to show your appreciation for his work with Queerability.

Rest in Power, Ki’tay. Love wins.
