While yes this is objectively hilarious, it is also a GREAT EXAMPLE of exactly why your trans friends are asking you to boycott all things Harry Potter. The only way to deplatform Rowling is to take away her influence, and that means removing HP from the public lexicon. Corporations take notice of profits more than anything else and if it can become clear that Rowling is no longer profitable because of her hatred of trans people, they will support that. If they don't think you care, they'll keep giving her a platform by continuing to fund her art.

This is why it doesn't matter if it's 'official' or not - if she is being paid directly or not. What matters is that the words even studio and publisher hears is 'we no longer support Rowling because she is transphobic.'

A Reminder

WEARING EARPLUGS IN PUBLIC IS NOT RUDE.

This goes to everyone who is ashamed by it and everyone who shames it. 

Let me say it again, WEARING EARPLUGS IN PUBLIC IS NOT RUDE.

It CAN be, if you’re doing it to intentionally be malicious or send a hateful message, but most of the time, people wear earplugs because it makes them more comfortable. 

So what if you have to wear them at a kid’s singing performance or talent show? So what if you have to wear them at a concert, or play, or in the movies? It’s not disrespecting the hard work people put into those things. Think about it. Which is worse: Wearing earplugs and being able to enjoy whatever is happening, even if it is muted, or being horribly uncomfortable or even in pain for the entirety of it and not getting to appreciate it at all? 

Which is better for the people behind the work and the people enjoying it?

So don’t be ashamed of wearing earplugs in public. And don’t shame people for it. Thanks.

Accessing higher education—whether it be a masters or a PhD program—is less and less feasible for folks who don’t want to bury themselves in student loan debt for the rest of their lives. GoGrad.org has a list of scholarships available specifically for LGBTQIA students looking to pursue masters and PhDs in a variety of programs: from law school to business to mathematics to social work! Some scholarships are even specifically for LGBTQIA people of color, a population that faces even more hurdles to accessing these programs. 

If you’re thinking about graduate school in the near future (or you’re a parent of someone who is thinking about graduate school…) check out this list and apply to as many you can!

The comic also makes extensive use of sign language, but provides no key to interpreting them. “If nothing else, it’s an opportunity for hearing people to get a taste of what it might be like to be deaf,” Mr. Fraction said.
