Take Back Alberta is being subpoenaed to reveal its financial backers after repeated refusals by founder David Parker.
Parker has been summoned by the election watchdog Elections Alberta after repeatedly refusing to cooperate with investigators over the far-right group’s funding and political activity.
He will appear in Edmonton on Friday with what he hopes will be a throng of supporters to join him in protest.
“Corruption at Elections Alberta must end,” Parker told PressProgress, in reference to his belief that the organization is controlled by his political enemies. “I have zero obligation to report to them under law.”
Nevertheless, Parker says he will speak to investigators Friday in Edmonton, which will likely involve many questions surrounding who funds the group. [...]

Doctors are sounding the alarm about overcrowding, capping any new admissions and long emergency department waits at several Edmonton hospitals. Emergency physician and Alberta Medical Association president Dr. Paul Parks said the Grey Nuns Hospital “has been capped for weeks” and the Royal Alexandra Hospital “has had to resort to capping.” In a message shared on social media, Parks said capacity is at 150 per cent (“150 patients in a space designed and staffed for 100 patients”) and he says they can’t take in one additional patient because it would be unsafe. Parks said two of the four major hospitals in Edmonton are “completely full… with overcapacity space maximized.”

A regular Thursday evening for a family living in north Edmonton quickly turned to terror as the Edmonton Police Service tactical team banged in their door. Alberta RCMP said officers believed there could be a victim held a gunpoint — but it turned out to be a false allegation. The frightening mistake happened Thursday, Nov. 2 around 5:20 p.m. at a home near 148th Avenue and 75A Street in the Kilkenny neighbourhood, and was captured on security camera video. The family didn’t know why there was an EPS tactical vehicle with ram rod knocking in their front door. At the same time, police stormed the home’s back door and three screaming teenagers were taken outside, where they were told to lay face down on the ground.

The Alberta government is aware that the Edmonton area has a deficit of hundreds of hospital beds and that number is expected to balloon to roughly 1,500 in the next few years, according to internal documents obtained by CTV News Edmonton.
The report titled "Inpatient Bed Deficit Projections" is dated January 2023 and written on pages stamped with the logo of Alberta Health Services.
It was provided by a health-care professional who CTV News Edmonton has agreed not to name because sharing it may put their job at risk.
"The ministry knows, Alberta Health Services knows, Alberta Infrastructure knows we have this progressively increasing deficit," the source said.
"But nobody wants to talk about it because if they do, they have to actually explain what they're going to do about it." [...]
