Would have been cool if they did this in 2015!

I’m glad that we’re all on the same page that Trump being steadily banned from all of his major platforms is a largely empty gesture and a desperate attempt to save face for these companies after they spent five years ignoring or outright supporting his fascism because it was profitable to them, but at the same it’s still fucking hilarious that Trump’s been permabanned from pretty much all social media in less than a week, and we’re definitely enjoying this show

THIS

We need a word in German which is like schadenfreude but where the misfortune belongs both to us and to someone else.

i suggest zusammenschadenfreude, but for all i know some german poet has already coined a compound word for it

So, the partial shutdown by the end of the month will become more expensive than the wall itself

but I would like to point out this is not just about this money, this is not just about the wall, this shutdown and this protesting against the wall is a statement against trump’s white supremacy.

The reason people are fighting it is because the fear-mongering alone is damaging to relations between people. It’s a statement of hate, and to reduce it to just a cost thing is to ignore why trump wants the wall in the first place

Trump doesn’t think this wall is going to keep people out, you can fucking saw through the prototypes for the wall currently, trump doesn’t give a shit about any of that, what he cares about is a physical statement of hatred for our neighbors.

this isn’t representative of the people, this is a representation of the white supremacists that govern our country despite not winning the people’s vote.

they continue to make laws and structures that terrorize people

My sister would like to get paid again sometime in the future and also FUCK that useless wall.

Agriculture is suffering, food regulations are suffering, nearly a million federal employees are suffering … and all for this.

ALSO THE 5.7 BILLION IS JUST THE F DOWN PAYMENT, LOOK FOR THE ESTIMATES OF THE COSTS AFTER ITS JUST STARTED, ITS WORSE.

Liberals are really falling over themselves for that shitty anonymous NYT op-ed the same way they did abt John McCain’s war criminal convention of a funeral. I mean have you really read this shit???

To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.

Bitch WHERE?

[…]
Although he was elected as a Republican, the president shows little affinity for ideals long espoused by conservatives: free minds, free markets and free people. At best, he has invoked these ideals in scripted settings. At worst, he has attacked them outright.

WHERE DOES HE SHOW LITTLE AFFINITY FOR FREE MARKETS? Or have I been dreaming up the fact that he’s been destroying regulations for the past year and a half now?

And speaking of which…

Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.
But these successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective.

Whoever wrote this clearly thinks that their audience doesn’t remember shit, because last I checked, Trump has been spearheading the efforts to deregulate the FDA and destroy the EPA. The Republicans could not have introduced their tax reform bill if he hadn’t been in office. And the military thing…I don’t even want to get into it because that’s just a fucking joke at this point.

Also, I love how these details were sandwiched between larger sections of this official just whinging about how they’re so fucking heroic, as if people can’t read and figure out for themselves how disingenuous as fuck this person really is, trying to downplay the facts, if not outright lie about them. But then again, why else would they work for this administration to begin with if they didn’t lie through their teeth.

You have to understand that politicians and people in this kind of power are generally not good people. A lot of people who have spoken out against Trump have become idolized in a way that I really think is dangerous. The former CIA director John Brennan was getting this treatment just 2 weeks ago because Trump took away his security clearance. Trump obviously does everything for himself and this was an obvious power move but we can’t prop up Brennan because he shit talked Trump. He still increased the drone programs under Obama and he’s still responsible for civilians in Pakistan, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, and Somalia.

The same goes for people like George W. Bush who has become completely adored by people all of a sudden. Or after Rex Tillerson called Trump a “fucking moron.” Stop with this “I actually kind of like Bush now,” just because he doesn’t like Trump. He’s majorly responsible for endless and unspeakable tragedy around the world he’s not a cute old man.

We just have to remember that all these people are still going to be around once Trump is out of office. It’s important not to lionize them and put so much trust in them. They’ve been ruining the world around you and stripping you of your privacy and freedoms for decades and they’re going to continue to do that in the future. When you give them unwavering support and your full trust it makes it easier for them to do this. The Koch brothers can be completely right about Trump hurting people with his tariffs but they’re still the fucking Koch brothers! You can’t think of this as heroes vs. villains because most of the people we’re talking about here are just villains who don’t give a shit about you.

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is expected to issue a proposal in coming weeks that would make it harder for legal immigrants to become citizens or get green cards if they have ever used a range of popular public welfare programs, including Obamacare, four sources with knowledge of the plan told NBC News.
The move, which would not need congressional approval, is part of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller’s plan to limit the number of migrants who obtain legal status in the U.S. each year.

this is real bad and make no mistake this is a backdoor way to their ultimate goal of ending birthright citizenship, long a thorn in the side of american white supremacists.

stephen miller jeff sessions and all those ppl come from a long tradition of trying to preserve america’s white majority by any means necessary. now they’re coming after immigrants who have used government services and you can imagine the thought behind this, the “leeches” “stealing” from the good white ppl. the “anchor babies” filling up the country with a non-white population that will eventually overtake the white. look for them to try to end birthright citizenship and look for them to devise new schemes to fuck with woc’s fertility. you may think i’m exaggerating but this is nothing new it’s happened and has been happening. there’s a long history of the reproductive rights of women of color being classed as a threat to the white state and being subjected to sterilization campaigns, reproductive control policies, birth control experiments. the reaches of these policies are worldwide. to the ppl in power woc don’t birth children we birth anchor babies, demographic threats, terrorists, leeches.

justice kennedy: I want to spend more time with my family uwu

victims of the united states who have had their families destroyed, or will have them destroyed:

this man is complicit in the atrocities to come.

Because he retired from his fucking job?

Yes, because he retired from his job… as the last fucking person standing between Trump and overturning any Supreme Court decision he wants.

Marriage equality? Gone. Roe v. Wade? Dead. Non-discrimination laws? Forget about it. Refugees from muslim countries? Kiss them goodbye. All those children and families stuck in ICE concentration camps? They’ll eventually be put to work, just like the rest of the fucking prison system.

Anthony Kennedy’s resignation letter is a blank fucking check for Trump to appoint a far-right lackey in his place, a mindless puppet that will let him abuse all the power in the world.

donald trump: sorry i only make political murder plans for people that harm the interests of the bourgeoisie.
donald trump: murderers and rapists don't do that.
donald trump: also i don't want to be murdered
donald trump: next question.

Foods packages you get when you're poor: Tons of peanut butter to go with the dozens of cans we have already, a bag of noodles, cans of creamed corn, a can of beans, powdered milk, Crispy Hexagons Cereal, 3 boxes of Crunch 'n Munch, and one can of premium chunk chicken breast.
Trump administration: *compares these emergency food packages to a "Blue Apron-type program"*

Currently, SNAP gives 42 million Americans a food voucher averaging $125 per person that can be redeemed for almost any food product in a grocery store. It’s one of the most important safety net programs in the U.S.
“Under the proposal,” Monday’s budget document says, “households receiving $90 or more per month in SNAP benefits will receive a portion of their benefits in the form of a USDA Foods package, which would include items such as shelf-stable milk, ready to eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit, vegetables, and meat, poultry or fish.”

So what’s most hilarious about this is that White House budget director Mick Mulvaney compared this to a “Blue Apron-type program where you actually receive the food instead of receive the cash.” Bitch, I’ve gotten those ready to eat boxes of food my whole life and it’s not some gourmet Blue Apron program, it’s more peanut butter than we know what to do with, some canned meat that feeds one person, creamed corn shit, powdered milk, and fucking “Crispy Hexagons” cereal.

Don’t you dare market this to us as some hip, gourmet delivery system when you’re really just telling poor people how to eat. And don’t think we don’t know it’s crap food loaded with starch and sugar, we’ve been eating this shit our whole lives.

it also completely ignores diet restrictions and shit, like canned goods have a fuckton of salt in them, canned goods reallllyyyyy aren’t all that fucking healthy and for people championing health to push this bullshit on people it’s real ironic, and by ironic i mean goddamn expected.

and i wonder which fucking corporations lobbied for them to do this? my money is on general mills.

It’s also literally more expensive to do this, I just want yall to know that, this is literally more expensive than just giving people food money.

i’m seeing fucking red.

Avatar
donald trump: so you know how poor people get money for food sometimes
us government: yes, go on
donald trump: how about we force these poor people to eat foods we've selected for them
us government: isn't that more expensive?
donald trump: yeah, but the capitalists will suck my dick over this one. we're now gonna try paying corporations the people's welfare on top of corporate welfare.

It was late morning in an artsy cafe, the smell of coffee and baked goods sweetening the air, and Ashley Bishop sat at a table, recalling a time when she was taught that most of secular American society was worthy of contempt.

Growing up in private evangelical Christian schools, Bishop saw the world in extremes, good and evil, heaven and hell. She was taught that to dance was to sin, that gay people were child molesters and that mental illness was a function of satanic influence. Teachers at her schools talked about slavery as black immigration, and instructors called environmentalists “hippie witches.”

Bishop’s family moved around a lot when she was a child, but her family always enrolled her in evangelical schools.

So when Bishop left school in 2003 and entered the real world at 17, she felt like she was an alien landing on Planet Earth for the first time. Having been cut off from mainstream society, she felt unequipped to handle the job market and develop secular friendships. Lacking shared cultural and historical references, she spent most of her 20s holed up in her bedroom, suffering from crippling social anxiety.

Now, at 31, she has become everything that she was once taught to hate. She shares an apartment with her girlfriend of two years. She sees a therapist and takes medication for depression, a condition born, in part, of her stifling education.

Years later, some of the schools Bishop attended are largely the same, but some have changed in a significant way: Unlike when Bishop was a student, parents are not the only ones paying tuition for these fundamentalist religious schools – so are taxpayers.

These schools are among thousands in the United States that participate in private school choice programs, which most often come in the form of state-level voucher or tax credit scholarships. Voucher programs offer publicly funded financial aid to parents for private schools. Tax credit programs usually offer individuals or corporations tax credits if they donate to a scholarship granting organization, which in turn offers private school scholarships based on various criteria, including income.

President Donald Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos have openly championed such programs and have encouraged states to embrace school choice, arguing that voucher programs give parents an alternative to low-performing public schools. Currently 14 states and the District of Columbia have voucher programs, and 17 have tax credit programs. DeVos has made it a top priority to push a federal school choice initiative.

Many of the private schools that participate in these state-led programs are run by evangelical Christian churches. They are sometimes unaccredited and can teach a curriculum similar to the one Bishop studied ― all with the help of taxpayer dollars.

The textbooks used at all of Bishop’s schools were published by three of the most popular, and most ideologically extreme, Christian textbook companies: Abeka, Bob Jones University Press and Accelerated Christian Education. The ideas in these textbooks often flout widely accepted science and historical fact.

But the number of schools using these resources is largely unknown, even in states where they receive support from publicly funded scholarships. No state or federal organization tracks the curriculum being used in private school choice programs. The religious affiliations of schools that participate in these programs are also not always tracked.

That means there are thousands of kids receiving an extremist and ultraconservative education at the expense of taxpayers.

For all American grad students who get tuition waivers.

This is extremely important for you to be aware of. Please spread the word.

Right now, I don’t think I know anybody who wouldn’t quit if this passed. Schools would lose their TAs and RAs en mass.

This would also make it impossible for disabled grad students - I can’t have roommates because of celiac (I tried, it didn’t work out), and so 2/3 of my paycheck goes right back out as rent.  And I make even less than this guy per year - I make 25-28k/year in one of the worst CoL places in America.  This will wreck the ability of people to go into research. This will make it even worse for people with medical expenses who want to go to school.

Trump has just announced Muslim Ban 3.0. It is FAR, FAR worse than the versions that came before it. Muslim Ban 3.0 bans ALL IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Chad and North Korea, in addition to ALL VISITORS OF ANY KIND. That means NO ONE from these countries will be allowed to get visas in to the United States anymore - not tourists, not businesspeople, not family reunions, not anything. The only exception is students from Iran (F, M, and J visas) - students from all the other countries are banned. This means that Iranian-Americans are now completely cut off from our families inside of Iran, who are now forbidden from visiting. This means Americans of Syrian, Somali, Libyan, Chadian, and Yemeni heritage are now cut off from family, friends, neighbors, loved ones. This means no weddings, no funerals, no visits to grandma and grandpa, no seeing cousins, no nothing. There is no exemptions for family. And this is INDEFINITE. Unlike the previous versions which were 90 days each and had to be renewed, this is FOREVER. Imagine the families broken up, the lives torn apart, the connections shattered. The people caught in the middle. My heart is broken. We must resist. There are no other options.
