Remus Lupin had a love bite.

Remus. Lupin. Had. A. Love. Bite.

Lily, Marlene and Dorcas stopped mid-conversation and stared as he sat down at the table between them, and James, Sirius and Pete. There was not a hint of anything amiss on his face, it was as if he was frequently covered in amorous souvenirs and this was just another day.

James, Pete and Sirius looked less surprised, but Lily supposed they’d already seen it and interrogated him in their dorm. Her eyes drifted around the likely candidates, Mary, Benjy, Emmeline… none of them even seemed to have noticed. She frowned, who else could it have been?

“Who’s been manhandling you, Lupin?” Marlene asked, saving her the effort.

“Wouldn’t you like to know, McKinnon?” He grinned. 

“You could have healed it, you know.” She shot back.

“Oh, I know. This is the first bite mark I’ve ever had that I’m not ashamed of, though.” He shrugged, a smile creeping across his features. “I’m hanging onto this for today, at least.”

Lily noticed the tiny movement of Sirius’ fingers brushing against Remus’ arm when he said that. Oh. Well, that was something she hadn’t considered.

Settled

Sirius at 11 was wide-eyed and energetic, enjoying his newfound friends and freedom within the Hogwarts castle.

Sirius at 16 was defiant and fed up with his family’s increasingly desperate attempts to control him. He cut the ties and could finally breathe.

22 found Sirius at the darkest point in his life. The war was over, yes. But it had cost him everything, including his freedom.

It wasn’t until he turned 34 that he regained his freedom and sense of purpose.

Now, the years gathered around him like a blanket, more warm than cold. More love than conflict. At first, he didn’t know what to do with the love he had. But he accepted it from Remus, and from Harry, and they made their own family.

They celebrated weddings and birthdays and anniversaries.

And at 65, he felt settled. He never thought he’d want to be settled when he was younger. What excitement was there in that? He’d wanted the excitement of running in the Forbidden Forest, of missions, of riding his motorbike, of exploring endless possibilities.

But settled also meant this, sitting on the veranda behind their beach cottage with a wedding ring on his finger. It meant the lines around his eyes and mouth that didn’t disappear anymore when he stopped smiling. It meant the streaks of silver in his still miraculously thick black hair.

Remus sat down next to him, breaking his reverie. He threaded their fingers together. Their wedding bands touched and warmed at the contact. They didn’t vibrate endlessly anymore now that the locator spell in the metal had relaxed.

“Happy birthday, darling,” Remus said, turning his chin so Sirius could look into those amber eyes that were as familiar as his own reflection.

“Thank you, love,” Sirius responded, kissing him softly.

I think people need to be more comfortable with illegalism and I’m not kidding. Of course the more legal something is, the safer and easier it is to do, but the more people who disregard the law, the harder it is to enforce. There are plenty of laws on the books that people just ignore and are never or rarely policed.

Becoming more comfortable with little illegal activities makes you more comfortable with bigger more important illegal activities. Additionally, it is crucial to build a wall of silence. Nobody talks everybody walks.

People who give out food without a permit, hold a march without a permit, grow a garden without a permit, are more likely to be people you could turn to to work with on preventing an eviction, or keeping people out of cop hands, or helping your friend Jane get crucial healthcare when it’s not legal in your state.

Communities comfortable with these acts won’t call the cops, and then nobody knows that it’s happening.

People have got to shift from both the idea that lawful = good/ illegal = bad, and that the illegality of something means that’s the end of it, and the only fight left is to make it legal again.

Fuck that post going around saying "you can have coffee in your story without justifying it :) you don't need to explain everything :)" I want, no, I DEMAND a fully researched ethnobotanical paper on every single food item in your work, if you don't explain to me where did potatoes come from in your fantasy setting or don't explain how the industry of coffee works over interstellar distances with full detail you are doing things wrong and I personally hate you and I hate your stupid story, fuck you

Why are your stupid little wizards and knights eating potato stew in your dumb European middle ages fantasy world. Where did they get potatoes from. Where is the center of domestication of potatoes, do you have a fantasy Andean civilization? What are the social and economic consequences of having such a calorie rich crop in cold climates. I don't care about "themes" or "enemies to lovers with found family", I didn't ask about that. Where does your idiot space captain gets their shitty coffee from. Is it imported from Earth? Are there coffee growing worlds? Is it an alien species replacement with the same name? What are the social consequences of that? Don't try to change the subject, I'll stop pointing the gun when I want, I'm trying to have a conversation here,
