I had wondered throughout the series how many references there were to Mitsunari's eyes and how they affected the other characters.

The first occurrence was Mitsunari's first appearance in the animated series. Uesugi Kenshin, the War God, could easily see this individual was not out for personal gain, but was so blindly loyal and obedient it pained his soul.

The next was in the movie The Last Party, where Masamune, even after being inflicted with near fatal wounds, had to admit that despite being called the Dark King there was hardly any true evil in Mitsunari's gaze, and he felt conflicted.

Motochika in Judge End noticed it right away and it drew the pirate lord to Mitsunari so that he allied with the Western forces. Even after being betrayed, that honest gaze told him Mitsunari wasn't to blame, and though Motochika broke off ties for a while, he'd be drawn back to those eyes once again.

Lastly, Ieyasu, in a flashback, admitted he could not live a dishonest way of life in front of Mitsunari, because of the guilt it might bring him. Even though he was forced to make a difficult choice, Ieyasu hoped that Mitsunari's honest and straightforward way of looking at the world would help him see the big picture...

Honestly, every character Mitsunari encountered in this series, both in the anime and the game, were affected deeply by his pure heart. He never fought for ambition, he never killed for his own glory, he never told a lie and he never acted with deceit. He despised betrayal and displayed utmost loyalty.

Mitsunari's eyes...they never changed....this is one of the reasons why he's such a beautifully tragic character...
