- Scenes from House of Five Leaves - in the style of the author: Natsume Ono -
I wanted to redraw my very first Saraiya Goyou fanart, but I thought just a redraw would be boring.. ^^;
On the importance of Akitsu Masanosuke
One of the things that make me so emotional when it comes to Five Leaves is Masa’s character. Yaichi was the character I fell in love with the first time I watched the anime, but every time I’ve gone through the story, both anime and manga, it’s Masa I’ve grown to love even more.
Even though Masa’s self-consciousness and cowardice are second to none (as Yagi so accurately puts it), Masa is actually one of the most strongest characters in the series. His strength is just the silent kind that is not always so easily noticed. At the beginning of the story, he doesn’t have any faith in himself, no future prospects, no family or friends to support him. But somehow he still makes it, slowly builds his confidence, finds a place where he belongs to and stops being ashamed of the way he is. At the same time he always manages to stay true to himself.
In a lot of ways, Masa and his problems remind me of myself. His lack of self-confidence, his naivety, the way he is constantly thinking how other people see him his lack of tactfulness, and his fear of not being able to change any of those things about himself. His positive qualities, however, are much more prominent and important than the negative ones. They also make him the kind of person I wish I could also be. His ability to trust people and see the good in them, and his perceptiveness of people general. The way he always manages to find the right words to say at the right time. The way he’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect the things he cares about. These are the things I see when I look at Masa, and that alone gives me so much strength, because at the same time he still is that dorky, shy person we meet at the start of the story.
Even if I know that no real person could ever be even half as amazing as Masa, his growth and storyline still give me hope. Hope that when I only see myself as weak and useless, there might still be qualities in me that others look up to and are drawn to. Hope that even when I don’t believe in myself, I might be stronger than I think. Maybe there will be a time when I don’t need to be reminded of these things, but until then I don’t think I could find a better source of inspiration than Masa.

House of Five Leaves - Favorite Scenes - Teaching Masa to look intimidating.
Just finished reading all 8 volumes of House of Five Leaves (Saraiya Goyou) by Natsume Ono. I watched the anime, what, 2-3 years ago...and I loved it but never had the chance to read the manga and finish the canon story...until now. Oh... My... God...!!!!! This manga is excellent!!!! I cried so much!!! (T ^ T) so beautiful and there's WAAAAAAY more to the story then the anime reveals. UUUuuu I love all the characters so much! Especially Masanosuke!!! And Yaichi!!! *sobbing* If you liked the anime you must read the manga!! It's really, really good!!!
An old doodle I made back in 2013.
(I should come back to this idea...>___>)
First Impressions are Everything
House of Five Leaves - Episode 1
Yaichi from "House of Five Leaves" has very few props seen in the anime: a dagger, a pipe, a travelers straw hat... I managed to make a kiseru pipe using polymer clay, and I cut out a Japanese red maple leaf from cardstock paper, the trademark symbol of the 'Five Leaves' Yay for cosplay prop making!!! XDD
Next con is AWA! I’m going to finally cosplay as one of my favorite characters: Yaichi from “House of Five Leaves”. I realized I have the right colored pieces in my kimono collection to do it! It’ll be more like a gender-bent version but I’m still really excited about it!! I absolutely love “House of Five Leaves”. It’s not action-packed but it’s full of mysterious intrigue and great character building. I hope I find a Masanosuke to tease! XDD
