Surprise!! Here is Kaiju Gijinka Number 11: ZILLA!!!!! [1998 Godzilla]

Thought up this design while I was working on Destoroyah. Since he’s a pretty modern interpretation compared to the classic kaiju, I went with a 90s punk/grunge look. Sleek like a sprinter, with hints of original Godzilla’s design mixed in. ‘98 Godzilla is part of my childhood, so I’m super excited to share this gijinka/human redesign!!!

Which one of the baby Godzilla’s is Legendary Godzilla?
I haven’t done a baby version of him. The “sons of Godzilla” characters I recently designed are from the Showa Era and Heisei Era Godzilla movies.
*Minilla raiding the fridge*
Godzilla: "BOY! What did I say about snacking before dinner?!"
*Baby runs by with shoes on his head* Godzilla: "Son, put that down!"
Junior: "Father, may I go visit Miss Miki?"
Godzilla: "No! Boy, what'd I tell you about hangin' out with humans too much?! It'll make ya soft!"
Junior: "But-"
Godzilla: "No butts! Now get back to your fight trainin'!"
Junior: "But...Father, I-."
Godzilla: "MINILLA! WHA'D I SAY??! PUT THE FUDGE BARS BACK!"
*Minilla runs off with a fudge bar in his mouth*
Baby: *holds up his arms* "DA-?!!"
Godzilla: *sighs*..."Where's Mothra when I really need her?"
#19 in my godzilla gijinka series, and one of the top 7 finalist kaiju voted for, was Minilla. But I decided to add a bonus to this illustration and include all his children, in a cute family photo!
Here are the Sons of Godzilla!! Minilla, Baby Godzilla and my personal favorite, Godzilla Junior!!! Big G is no doubt very proud of his precious boys!

Finally, he’s finished! Kiryu!! [from “Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla”]
This illustration has been sitting in my WIP folder for months and now he’s finally DONE! Mechagodzilla was the 2nd most voted character in my recent poll for Godzilla gijinka re-designs, and it’s no surprise. Although there are at least 3 versions of Mechagodzilla in the Godzilla universe, I decided to go with Kiryu. He means the most to me and has the coolest design out of all of them, in my humble opinion!
Setting is based on the iconic scene in the movie, “Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla”, when Kiryu is silhouetted against the setting sun after raging in berserk mode. And yes, I did make a “berserk” version for fun.

Honestly, it’s almost impossible to deviate too far from this guy’s original look, it’s so iconic, and he’s already so human-like compared to the rest of the Godzilla kaiju. So…yeah a simple gijinka re-design this time, but I’m happy with it and had lots of fun!

I am sorry to see that Ebirah (the Smog Monster) didn't make the cut for Gijinka-fication.
Yeah, sorry there just weren’t enough votes for the more obscure kaiju. Once I get out of this artblock I will be working on finishing that project. But there are just....so....many....kaiju!!! Maybe after some time goes by I’ll do some sketches of the Showa era guys, but for my big illustrations I figured going with a voting poll was the best way to choose...

Sure I’ll take a vote for Komodi, since I’ve technically designed Zilla already.
Here they are together as a set! The 4 main Toho kaiju in gijinka/human forms! I had a wonderful time coming up with these designs! As I familiarize myself more with the classic toho movies and characters, I may redesign more characters in the future and add to this series!

Second batch of kaiju human redesigns!! All together in a set of 4 like the first! These have been so fun to make, and I can’t express how touched I am at the feedback I’ve received on all my kaiju redesigns! The Godzilla fandom is so awesome and I’m glad to contribute to the love of these classic characters! I still have a few more characters planned. Though I may have to poll between a handful of them…stay tuned!!
