I figured why Ashikaga has weird hair in the Retsuden manga. It's based on his early character concept sketches, which was published in the SB4 artbook. Since the manga is supposed to be a kind of flash-back scene...?? So younger Ashikaga...???

Sengoku Basara Retsuden - Chapter 1 ~ English Translation

A while ago, I obtained a copy of Sengoku Basara Retsuden manga and set to work translating the dialogue. Here is a rough layout of the first chapter. I apologize for the poor picture quality, but I wasn’t able to find scans of this manga yet. Also, my Japanese is not the best, but I tried my hardest! I was really excited to see Uesugi Kenshin featured a lot in this story! And the artwork is stunning...! Enjoy!

Narrator: “The Sengoku period...a world lost in wretchedness before the dawn. Later on, a new generation rose up and galloped into war.”

Narrator: “Charging ahead into the stormy uproar, we see a great hero appearing, a man of fame from the days of long ago...that man of fame was..."

Uesugi Soldier: "Lord War God! Lord Kenshin!"

Uesugi Soldier: "Reporting!! The invading enemy forces have stopped..! They broke through the battle formation, the ‘Snow Group’ (Uesugi forces) has been annihilated! Before long, we too will perish here!!"

Kenshin: “"Do be calm. There is a guest present."

Uesugi Soldier: “B-but, at this rate, we'll be surrounded! It can't be...!Those Oshu savages...!! Uuwaaa!!”

Masamune: “Outta my way."

Masamune: “Boss of Oshu...Date Masamune...charging in."

Uesugi Soldier: “Th-that's General Date Masamune...!!"

Kenshin: “One Eyed Dragon of Oshu...so you have brought your showy raging to this place..."

Masamune: "Hold on, my heart's intention is toward all of Japan. And...Echigo, we're passing by on that road just now.”

Masamune: “You there...better get out of my way...for good."

Masamune: “You guys are late. This trophy is mine to devour.”

Yoshinao: “That is...the war god...??"

Other Date Guy: “It’s been a long time since boss was so equally matched."

Kenshin: “"There are a surprisingly large number of unwanted guests today..."

Guy Behind Kenshin: “Sounds like some boisterous entertainment has appeared, huh? A buddy of yours? My friend, Uesugi?”

Kenshin: “He who is wanton of sport...I hope you live up to expectations…”

Kenshin: “…my opponent.” 

Masamune: “Awesome...”

Date Soldiers: “Uaaaaaa!!! Gaaaaa!!”

Date Soldier: “Uwaaaaa!”

Kojuro: “Oooohhh!”

Date Soldier: “K-Katakura-sama!”

Kojuro: “Cool it, you you guys, and take note..."

Kojuro: “...of Masamune-sama’s advancement!”

Masamune: “This is so COOL!!! So this is the famed conquering strength of the War God!”

Guy Behind Kenshin: “Conquering?"

Ashikaga: “Yo-to~” (sound of standing up)

Masamune: “Here in this place, your subordinates have been crushed! When this is over, the name One Eyed Dragon, will ring out throughout the whole county!"

Ashikaga: “Fu~ What is this conquering...friend?"

Kenshin: “You mustn't! It is my duty to resolve this matter."

Ashikaga: “Why? I think it will be interesting to assess this fellow's answer. This earnest dream the youngster has.”

Masamune Thinking: "What's the problem? Is this an Uesugi flunky? And yet how was he able to butt in and break apart our clash of swords...?"

Masamune: “Hey, get outta the way...or you're gonna end up hurt."

Ashikaga: “Who me? Haha! From someone like you...that's impossible."

(Dragon rage!!!)

Kenshin: “Oh dear...”

Ashikaga: “Such as this...right?"

Ashikaga: “"Ho...you had more tricks hidden within...Amazing!"

Ashikaga: "fu~mu~"

Ashikaga: “"Haha! Like this?!"

Ashikaga: “You're considerably troublesome."

Masamune: “Uaaaaaaa!!!”

Date Soldier: “Uuaa...! The blizzard is getting stronger isn't it?!”

Date Soldier: “Will it make much difference if we sit here and wait for the boss?"

Date Soldier: “BOSS!!!”

Kojuro Thinking: “This should have ended once Boss cut with the six dragon swords. Echigo's War God, as expected, is no ordinary man."

Kenshin: “Do be quiet. We are in the middle of some wanton sporting.”

Bunshichi: “The W-war God!?"

Magobei: “T-this is serious!"

Bunshichi: “Boss is...no way!"

Kojuro Thinking: “This is...the War God...If that's the case then...Masamune-sama's...

Kojuro Thinking: “Masamune-sama’s opponent is-”

Kojuro: “Masamune-sama!!!!”

Masamune: “Withdraw!! Kojuro!!”

Ashikaga: “Is Conquest your desire?"

Ashikaga: “Do tell me...what is your inborn reason to conquer during these times?"

Masamune Thinking: “When...? What is this person...this guy...?!!"

Chapter 2 - (Only managed to translate 2 pages of this chapter...WIP)

That’s as much as I’ve been able to translate so far! I’ll try to translate some more pages and make another post in the future.

Of course, she is most impressed by the more mature warriors. One she is especially fond of is the current ruler, Ashikaga Yoshiteru.

OMG Ashikaga is so overpowered! Jeez! I shoulda done his story on hard mode. This is too easy! Plus his MH costume is now permanent. He looks sooooo cool!!!
