Day 3: Childhood

Akihime was covered and bandaged for most of her childhood as to not catch leprosy like her father, but due to this was very sheltered and lived a lonely life. Yoshitsugu raised her to be like a little doll, often getting called Kohina (小ひな) by others as a cruel joke. She eventually cut her hair as an act of defiance when she was sent to Kai, but was stopped before she could finish, giving her a major mullet.

Baby Aki due in no small part to @kammy-cakes‘s design of her. I have to go to work in a couple hours so I kept this pretty basic so no patterns or anything really on her clothing. But still she is very cute and so full of hope and emotion. Prior to Yoshitsugu’s illness (or the serious decline of his health and sanity) Aki had a good childhood. Yoshitsugu was protective and nurturing towards her, especially after her mother’s death in her infancy. Kammy and me also talked a lot about Aki being friends with Benmaru, but as they grew up they became two different people and ended up forgetting each other. Yukimura remembers the shy little girl, not to the emotionless woman. Aki forgets everyone she ever bonded with, outside of Yoshitsugu. Bonds and emotions are weaknesses. A very shy child, Aki took a lot of time warming up to and making friends with other children and usually preferred her father’s company anyway. Prone to crying and was very easily frightened, particularly plagued by night terrors and a fear of the dark (which persists into her adulthood). Unfortunately, that sweet, innocent childhood doesn’t last long as Yoshitsugu became disenchanted with the world, and started to raise Aki to believe the same thing; turning her into the perfect tool of conquest.
