There’s been a widespread effort to start several lies about the CHAZ, including food scarcity and supposed chaos, but everyone I know locally who is there has said it’s all well supplied, calmly run, and feeling wonderfully supportive and communal.

English has a lot more words created for very specific phenomena! It’s not just rick-rolling. Language is always evolving and it’s super interesting! Here’s a list of hyper-specific/untranslatable words in English.

Like the bottom line is no 18 year olds and 19 year olds are exactally adults and especially girls are forced to grow up and yeah we have to talk about that BUT you CAN’T be saying “I’m not a real adult” to minors. 

You still have power and you’re still an adult and minors are easily groomed or end up thinking relationships with 18+ people are ok because “they’re not emotionally an adult” like no shut the fuck up. Both discussions can happen at once and also keep kids safe or I’ll kill you.

This exact sentiment is really important and if you interact with minors, especially in a mentor or coach role its really important that you make this clear.

When i say im not a real adult i mean do not ask me about taxes or credit, not that it would be in any way acceptable for me to start coming at you in any way that isnt strictly platonic or teaching

Its been a difficult discussion a couple of times because i started mentoring immediately out of hs, meaning that i went to school and worked with a lot of my students.

The best way to deal with that in my experience is to clarify that because youre in an adult role its inappropriate to consider a student in that light. Make an explicit (but not judgy) no reply, and explain that a lot happens in the couple years after graduation.
