Summary:

A few years after Jacklyne has gotten used to her new life among the Avengers, she's assigned to work with one of their greatest enemies, Loki Laufeyson/dottir. It turns out that because one of his children prefers the company of humans while the other one is a war criminal, Loki's father Odin has slipped into the Odinsleep, leaving her mother Frigga in charge of Asgard. Jacklyne can't imagine ever loving the woman enough to set her free after what she's done to the people of New York, but that's a mother’s love for you. It takes a mission going sideways for Jacklyne to begin to see the value in Loki's company and for Loki’s opinion of humans to gradually turn positive.

A/N: This chapter is mostly fluff and the introduction of Jacky’s mother :)

September 1999

What an idiot. J-87 scolded herself inside her head. She mentally beat herself up for letting herself get caught and telling them as much as she did and everything else that led up to this moment. The S.H.I.E.L.D pigs took her uniform and gave her new clothes fit for a common civilian child; acid-washed denim overalls with a pink t-shirt. She missed her old uniform. But even though she wouldn't admit it out loud, she rather liked wearing such bright clothes. They never gave her stuff like this at H.Y.D.R.A.

J-87 sat in a cold waiting room with her arms crossed and a pout on her face. She avoided eye contact with the various S.H.I.E.L.D agents that sat a few seats away from and around her, quietly watching people enter and exit the headquarters. She thought about making a run for the entrance and escaping, but that would be like a mouse trying to escape a lion pen. She was outgunned and outnumbered, so for now she played along.

They promised her that they would send her to a new family and give her a real name, so while she waited J-87's mind raced at what that might entail. Maybe instead of 24 brothers and sisters, she'd have 50 or even 100! And at least 30 moms and dads. Maybe even some guard dogs for them to train and play with. The more she thought about it, perhaps this wasn't so bad.

Then someone different came through the front doors of the building. A tall, blonde woman wearing sunglasses and tapping a stick on the ground. She wore a red button up shirt tucked into blue jeans with a denim jacket on top. The girl watched curiously as she checked into the front desk, and suddenly the man behind the desk pointed right at her. The woman looked in her general direction and walked over to the waiting area, stopping when her stick finally tapped against a chair.

"J-87?"

The girl perked up and went over to the blonde. "Yes, that's me. What do you want?"

The woman chuckled. "Jeez kid, did they not teach you any manners? I'm here to take you home."

She shuffled her feet awkwardly. "You are.. my new mother? What is your name?"

"Tanya Ramirez." She held her hand out. J-87 stared at it for a few seconds before taking it, surprised when Tanya began shaking her arm then released it. "Don't worry, I'm sure you're gonna love my home."

Before she could say anything back, agent Phil Coulson walked into the waiting room and over to J-87 and Tanya.

“Ah, good! You two have already met. Well, I have the adoption papers right here. Let’s not keep the pilot waiting too long.”

Phil escorted the two outside of the building to a private jet that was waiting for them. After entering and finding their seats, Phil took out a pen and began writing down on the documents he had while reading them to Tanya for her answers. J-87 zoned out after the jet had taken flight, staring boredly out the window and swaying her legs back and forth as they hung from her too-large seat. It wasn’t until she heard them saying her name that she brought her attention back to them.

“J-87 isn’t a proper name. What about… Jacklyne? Jacklyne… Jade Ramirez. How does that sound, sweetie?” Tanya spoke up, coming up with the name on the spot.

“Jack… Lyne… Jade… Ramirez? Like your name?”

Tanya nodded. “Exactly. Daughters usually have their mother’s last names. Do you like it?”

The girl had to think about it for a moment, her new name repeating and bouncing off every corner inside her mind. After a few seconds, she nodded back to the two adults with approval.

“Yes... I think I like it. Call me that from now on, okay?”

Phil smiled and wrote her new name down on the adoption papers. “Okay.”

By popular demand, here's part 1 of the arms talking in the novelization of Spider-Man 2! So far of what I've read this is the only chapter where they talk but I'm not finished with the book so if they talk more I'll probably post those too :)

I'd like everyone to know that I have the novelization of Spider-Man 2 and in the book the arms actually talk to Otto in his head and have their own dialogue. Not only that but they call him father and Otto sees them as him and Rosie's children. :')

After some struggling, the two large men in black combat uniforms finally got their small yet surprisingly strong captive to sit down in the cold chair in the middle of the interrogation room. As they removed their hands from her the girl attempted to bite one of the men but failed, catching only empty air between her teeth. She rattled the oversized handcuffs on her wrists anxiously, growling when she finally realized that there was nothing she could do in this situation but wait and find out what these men had planned for her.

Her large teal eyes scanned the room, observing the odd honeycomb patterns on the walls and unsettlingly shiny table in front of her. Then her focus turned to the men, both tall, muscled and well armed with large rifles in hand. They stood behind her chair, statuesque with their cold eyes glaring down at her, almost daring her to try anything and see what happens. She huffed and turned back around, innocently dropping her bound hands onto the table to show that she would comply.

As if on cue, the door in front of the girl finally opened and in walked an older, fair-haired man with a suitcase. He bared an almost smug grin on his face which made the little one want to lunge forth and slash his mouth open, then see if he'd still smile so brightly. But knowing that would get her nowhere, she resisted and instead kept her dagger-like eyes locked onto him.

"Hello there. My name is Phil Coulson. Can you tell me yours?"

"I'm not telling you anything, puto." She finally spoke up, her little voice thick with a Spanish accent.
