About/DNI/Etc.

Shé:kon!

I'm Ko, it/its only. 2spirit, queer, and engaged happily. This is my personal blog, I follow from @cipheral, and I ramble a lot about random stuff + personal issues here.

I'm a poor + disabled artist so if you want to support me, you can on kofi or paypal, or DM about commission info.

Don't spam like my posts, please and thanks.

Don't tag my posts with q slur.

DNI is basic stuff. No transphobes, exclusionists, racist, zionist, right wing, etc. I block "pro-ship" and the like blogs for personal comfort reasons so just avoid if you fall into that.

My inbox is always open, anon is always on, and I love getting asks so don't be shy!

Gonna make a new post since the last has lost traction. But.

Hi, I'm a disabled, poor, trans, native artist, and I'm trying to financially recover from a major blow to my bank caused by vet bills. I take commissions (though they're on a delay due to moving), as well as doodle requests for cheaper prices.

Any help here would be super appreciated, reblogs, a dollar, anything is genuinely amazing. If I could finish this goal before the holidays it would be absolutely incredible. (Link is numbers below.)

Thanks so much, and just DM if you're interested in commissions or a doodle! (Min 5 dollars for the doodle, sorry!)

"For [Tanner] Green, the chief engineer at Not a Wheelchair, this is one of the thousand complications standing between his team and a rather lofty goal: upending the manual wheelchair marketplace.

If you’ve heard of Not a Wheelchair, it’s likely because of its owners, Zack Nelson, the star of the 8.8-million-subscriber YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, and his wife Cambry, a para and manual wheelchair user. The Nelsons got into the mobility equipment business a few years ago when they released The Rig, an electric, adaptive off-road device with a simple yet robust and functional design priced significantly lower than anything else on the market. Now, they’re bringing that same ethos to manual wheelchairs.

Not a Wheelchair aims to offer a base-model, custom manual wheelchair at a similar or better quality than most of the insurance-approved wheelchairs in the U.S. for $999.

Yes, that’s just under $1,000 for everything — wheels, handrims, tires, side guards and rigid, angle-adjustable backrest included. And the company plans to have a turnaround time of weeks, rather than the monthslong slog that it typically takes from order to delivery.

When I first heard about this, it sounded awesome and a bit far-fetched. It’s hard to find a pair of quality wheelchair wheels for less than $500. Same with a rigid backrest. How were they going to offer both, plus a custom wheelchair frame without compromising on quality? I drove to their headquarters in Utah to find out...

So how does Not a Wheelchair’s base model chair stack up to other options on the market? I hate to sound like a preacher, but … it’s totally reasonable! It hits the mark of being at least as good, if not better, than the majority of insurance-approved wheelchairs in the U.S.

Touring the factory, I saw other prototypes scattered all around the facility. There’s a beefier, four-wheel drive version of The Rig that the company just launched. There’s a track wheelchair that’s still in development. It’s clear that Not a Wheelchair doesn’t intend to stop at a simple, manual wheelchair. Inexpensive components, more advanced electric off-road devices, power assist, it’s all on the table. “We’re just really excited to see where this leads,” says Green."

i do think calling a native american person a yank is a bit weird and speaks to a simplistic view of US imperialism given the colonizers, yknow, still hate us and want us dead. especially if you're from another settler colony like, oh i don't know, picking two at random here, Australia or Canada. not to mention most of the benefits of US imperial hegemony that citizens of the imperial core get dont really get extended to a lot of us but what do i know maybe im just a dumb redsk- i mean yank

LITERALLY!!! like there is active colonial violence being carried out against native americans across the US right now. Did you forget MMIW? Did you forget the pipelines? Did you forget the fucking EXISTENCE OF THE UNITED STATES???? Maybe you should shut up and worry more about how you're actively perpetuating the colonial violence being enacted on the indigenous population of the land you're squatting on.

i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service you’re organising" one of the tags responding said "this isn’t about proshippers in here you’re not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.

There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.

For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.

As a single poor, disabled person who isn't american, there's not much i can do materially to help. But idk, i don't feel helpless still. If i can do something to help even just one person, if my actions and efforts and sympathy -- given as genuinely i can -- can help even one person survive? That's worth it. And they can. They are. And that's what I can do. Its not much in the grand scheme of things, but it's another day for someone, and that's all I can hope for.

Im not sure how to put into words how im feeling. But. I do know I've had this song in my head over the course of the last couple days. So. Take a listen if you can, and heed the title my friends.

what do you think of mormonism's conceptions of race in their theology? like the way they conceive(d?) of racial inequity as cosmologically ordained

yes! i meant more as. within the framework of their own theology. from its inception to now, present day.

Never found it terribly interesting. It was an element added to Mormon theology specifically to cater to the theological problem posed by the existence of Native Americans. i.e "If the bible says all life started in the garden, who are these people across the sea? How did they get here?" Early Mormonism was extremely interested in maintaining the view of Native Americans as lesser, and it has not significantly deviated from that.

It was intended to maintain white supremacy, it did maintain white supremacy, and continues to reinforce white supremacy, but the LDS doesn't like to talk about that as much.
