Let people enjoy what they like 2020 Science Accuracy Edition.

I SHOULD be sleeping. But I can’t... because I can’t believe in the year of our Lord 2020 that individuals can became a-holes for the sake of... *scientific accuracy in dead critters*... I’m just. WHAT?

I thought that this kind of stuff is only restricted to Reddit/DeviantArt, but it has been spreading throughout the internet and reached areas like Twitter and Tumblr.

I usually try and keep calm about this, but as a Character and Creature designer, it’s something I also have to address for other creators as well.

I’m going to be honest. I come from BOTH the “Realism” and “Awesome!” camp. Because I like playing with *both* aspects in any design.

Being a science nerd, I would LOVE there’d be more scientific accuracy in my media. I am absolutely DYING to see a documentary with modern dino thought to it (like 2019 Zazu. His animation is what raptors in documentaries should be going for imo), or having my dinosaurs look both intimidating AND realistic.

BUT! As a writer AND a character/creature designer... I am also VERY much an ‘awesomebro’ in a lot of other ways. I like playing with shapes and lines that, while sacrificing accuracy, enhances the design or personality of the creature or character.

Scientific accuracy imo (unless it’s for a documentary, where it’s meant to educate, but even then you can always write an interesting plotline to capture viewer attention), is a *TOOL*, that you could use to create interesting characters or simply you like a more realistic aesthetic than a stylized one.

You do NOT harass people over it.

You do NOT try to lord over your superiority over others for it.

YOU DO NOT ATTACK OTHER CREATORS JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT DESIGN PHILOSOPHY THAN YOU, AND IF THAT DESIGN PHILOSOPHY IS DIFFERENT FROM YOURS, DO NOT HARASS THE ARTIST OVER IT.

You HAVE to respect the decision that the artist’ made, even when you do not agree or simply not your taste. You can have a friendly discussion about what you agree and disagree... but do not be ‘that guy’. Seriously.

I know I’m gonna lose followers over this, and I don’t care. The News Cycle is already is already depressing enough, so perhaps this minor thing broke he camels back or whatever... I’m just so disappointed that something like this can happen in an area that I take passion and joy in.

Y’know how in Hollywood they like to demonize intellectuals by making them these distant, emotionless, soulless monsters who claim that looking at everything in the cruelest, most inhumane manner and talk about things like “fun” and “imagination” as if they’re a disease?

I think Richard Dawkins does a disservice to rational human beings by claiming to represent them while acting exactly like that preposterous stereotype.

I wonder if we can make his brain explode by telling him a paradox…

This is the same asshole who preaches “Militant Atheism” and the idea there can be no world peace until every source of faith is abolished…. just dwell on that hypocrisy for a minute.

I know this news came out in 2008...but seriously... I would have ever expected Richard Dawkins... of all people... to have common ground with Religious Fundamentalists in the "Harry Potter is Bad for Kids" department... just with a different (and equally stupid) reasoning. Kids aren't that dumb man, they know what's a story and what's not.
