My last Kaijune post.
Set in the same setting as my kaiju, Jovis.
The Lion Lord and Lady, are a group of mutant lions exposed to the same energy that makes all of Terra-2′s monsters. However, as they are from Earthen stock, their mutations are way more unnatural compared to Jovis.
I am VERY late to the Kaijune game, so I have only Jovis draw. I hope to make something today on the last day of Kaijune.
I SHOULD be sleeping. But I can’t... because I can’t believe in the year of our Lord 2020 that individuals can became a-holes for the sake of... *scientific accuracy in dead critters*... I’m just. WHAT?
I thought that this kind of stuff is only restricted to Reddit/DeviantArt, but it has been spreading throughout the internet and reached areas like Twitter and Tumblr.
I usually try and keep calm about this, but as a Character and Creature designer, it’s something I also have to address for other creators as well.
I’m going to be honest. I come from BOTH the “Realism” and “Awesome!” camp. Because I like playing with *both* aspects in any design.
Being a science nerd, I would LOVE there’d be more scientific accuracy in my media. I am absolutely DYING to see a documentary with modern dino thought to it (like 2019 Zazu. His animation is what raptors in documentaries should be going for imo), or having my dinosaurs look both intimidating AND realistic.
BUT! As a writer AND a character/creature designer... I am also VERY much an ‘awesomebro’ in a lot of other ways. I like playing with shapes and lines that, while sacrificing accuracy, enhances the design or personality of the creature or character.
Scientific accuracy imo (unless it’s for a documentary, where it’s meant to educate, but even then you can always write an interesting plotline to capture viewer attention), is a *TOOL*, that you could use to create interesting characters or simply you like a more realistic aesthetic than a stylized one.
You do NOT harass people over it.
You do NOT try to lord over your superiority over others for it.
YOU DO NOT ATTACK OTHER CREATORS JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT DESIGN PHILOSOPHY THAN YOU, AND IF THAT DESIGN PHILOSOPHY IS DIFFERENT FROM YOURS, DO NOT HARASS THE ARTIST OVER IT.
You HAVE to respect the decision that the artist’ made, even when you do not agree or simply not your taste. You can have a friendly discussion about what you agree and disagree... but do not be ‘that guy’. Seriously.

I know I’m gonna lose followers over this, and I don’t care. The News Cycle is already is already depressing enough, so perhaps this minor thing broke he camels back or whatever... I’m just so disappointed that something like this can happen in an area that I take passion and joy in.

@danaterrace has made something truly special with The Owl House. As a fan of all things Medieval I love the integration of medieval art into the show regarding its character design, and that’s just scratching the surface!
I LOVE Eda as a character, her personality, her interactions with Luz is so nice! Plus, her inner conflict with the curse is interesting. Plus who doesn’t love Wendie Mallck?
And finally... powerful ladies with monstrous sides to them? Yes please! (Funilly enough, Eda is a nice counterpart to Maleficent: She’s a powerful older mage but on the side of good! Plus, while Mal’s monstrous side is a voluntary one, Eda isn’t, a perfect morality mirror!

Kaijune - Terra-2 - It’s Joe
I only just realized that this month was also Kaijune! As I’m going to be consumed by other activities, I thought I’d do something special, so I’m revisiting a setting and a character I haven’t updated in a LOOOONG time... Those who’ve followed me since my DA days probably know him!
Set in a world that’s basically a sci-fi genre-crossover where the Kaiju are top-of-the-food-chain, the name of the big guy is Jovis. Over the years he went from being a Heroic Neutral Force of Nature to an unambiguously good and heroic kaiju... that can still cave in the skulls in of other kaiju. What he lacks in cunning (and basic survival instincts), he more than makes up by being really, REALLY strong.
It’s good to bring you back big guy... I missed drawing you!
Decided to take a trip down memory lane in honor of Godzilla, King of the Monster’s release (which, unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten to watch yet :’) )
Several years ago, I made an AU called Mobzilla, which is... well... self-explanatory xD.
3 years of character design classes and 1 year in a studio later, I decided wanted to give at least one remake for nostalgia!
So, in light of Godzilla’s more heroic portrayal in the recent Legendary films, I made him look less like The Kingpin, and more “regal” in his posture you could say, with cleaner, tidier clothing. I added elements of Yakuza as well (the tattoos), to highlights. Blacksad was a MAJOR artistic influence.
A special shout-out to some of my DA buddies, including @tyrantisterror @carnivorecreations @rendragonclaw @akitymh, with whom I had a LOT of fun brainstorming for this AU when this began!
As I’m trying to avoid Endgame spoilers, I decided to draw King Ghidorah!
I’m so hyped for Godzilla: King of the Monsters! Can’t wait to see THE Kaiju Badguy up on the big screen!

Hey there everyone! Hope everyone is doing well, just wanted to inform you guys that I’m available for commissions this month!
I’ve been delaying posting this mostly due to the fact that, well, life happens, and there’s a chance work would get in the way... But so far, looks like I can do commission work while working on my regular job.

A week ago this day, Guillermo Del Toro won the Oscars for both Best Director AND Best Picture for The Shape of Water. As a monster fan ever since childhood, you have NO idea how much that means to me, doubly so because I LOVE Guillermo Del Toro’s work. To see a film that is, essentially, part of The Creature of the Black Lagoon’s legacy to nab THE top prize in Hollywood is nothing short of phenomenal, in a genre where movie monsters have been a staple since the beginning; from the era of Karloff’s Frankenstein and Lugosi’s Dracula all the way to the Xenomorph and the Predator and BOTH Clash of the Titans (the old one is still better). And at long last, after all these decades, a monster movie nabs the Oscar.
Thank you Guillermo Del Toro, you never cease to amaze us, and inspire us to create and imagine.
Regarding the picture, kept in Black and White for the most part, to really capture that vintage 1940s-50s feel. Only the statue is colored.

My Personal Creature and Character Design Project, aka Project Pantheon
Basically, I sought out to redesign and interpret the “Great Beasts” of multiple mythologies into cosmic-scale kaijus, set in a science-fantasy universe where all the gods, goddesses, angels and other divine beings of human mythology. As the beasts that are said to be so powerful that they are world-breaking... Each beast represents a different extinction event, and the beast they are based off are meant to reflect that (with the exception of Ammit, who’s actually just a fierce servant).
Each great beast serves as a servant, willing or otherwise to a Pantheon in this setting, with only Tiamat as the exception, as she’s her own boss, in the form of Nammu.

Behemoth, representing the Abrahamic Pantheon and the Cretaceous Extinction Event
Typhon, representing the Greek Pantheon and the Permian Extinction Event
Fenrir, representing the Norse Pantheon and the Ice Age
Ammit, representing the Egyptian Pantheon and the Triassic Extinction Event
Azi Dahaka, representing the Zoroastrian Pantheon and the Ordovician Extinction Event
Orochi representing the Japanese Pantheon and the Holocene/Anthropocene Extinction Event

As a monster fan as well as a paleontology & world mythology enthusiast, this one of the funnest series I ever had the pleasure to do. :)
Day 6 of Inktober... Based of the prompt “hidden” and oooh boy, this one’s theme is “hidden from discourse”
I want to talk about “discourse” here on Tumblr, and boy oh boy, It’s one of the most horrifying sights I have seen on the internet. I have never seen so much fighting over the most trivial of subjects, and shipping wars here tend to be so vicious it makes the early days of DeviantArt pale in comparison. There is like, near CONSTANT fighting when a character is portrayed even slightly different, and all of the sudden you have folks telling the artist them to kill themselves.
I’m not gonna even discuss about the “social justice” issues people tend to latch on with a character. Be it from the popular fandoms like Overwatch or Steven Universe, people tend to take their headcanons so seriously they try to force it onto other people, or when they
Sometimes... It just wants to make me hide away forever from the internet, as I really don’t like to get into arguments. Heck that’s why I’m not even gonna tag specific fandoms, because I just want to share an opinion rather than argue. I’m just trying to vent out my frustrations with this site...
