Pantheons - Zeus and the Ruling Family

A surprise Pantheons update! Featuring Zeus and his Olympians (specifically his wife and his brothers).

The theme for this year is Outremer's neighbours, and since Outremer is the biggest faction is the setting, they also share the most neighbours in the Milky Way Galaxy! The first faction of focus is Zeus and his Olympians.

Zeus is the king of the Olympian gods and the leader of the Greek Pantheon. When he was younger, he was much more impulsive and egotistical, more akin to the Zeus of popular perception of the old stories on Earth. Then he warred with Lucifer and his Angels three times and lost all of them.

After a bit of soul searching and some advice and listening to that advice from his family, he decided to try and be a better person, and try to mend strained relationships with his family, though if people needs a reminder he's STILL the law of the land, he's more than willing to show it!

If there's a problem that stumps him and his wife Hera, there's always good ol' reliable Athena to look to!

-

Hera is Queen of the Gods and Goddess of Marriage and Family. Much like Zeus, she's a much different goddess than the one who made Hercules' life miserable centuries ago. She know tries to use her position as a way to mend in-family conflicts AND those of her subjects.

It doesn't matter if a family is by blood, or found or from community, each one can appeal to Hera for help.

-

Poseidon is the god of the Sea and of Earthquakes. Big, Strong and Imposing, he feels like he's the only serious one in the family, now that everyone seems to be changing. He's the local curmudgeon who doesn't seem to like that the world around him is changing.

The gods are acting more like mortals in both personality and words. Perseus hooked up with MEDUSA of all people!

-

Hades is the god of the underworld, and doesn't talk or visits much, as he typically prefers to stay home, a subdimension that's part of a much larger extradimensional realm accessed only by death entities.

Despite this, he's very much enjoying the change he's seeing in his family, and feels more comfortable hanging out. If only Poseidon wasn't such a curmudgeon.

Hero With a Thousand Faces

Hey y’all! Remember that post with the Tyannosaurus and its Pop Culture legacy? And how I did it with two more prehistoric creatures (and Sid)? Welp... here’s the latest version, and by far, the biggest of ‘em all.

The motif here is actually simple, from the drawings of a Paleolithic couple (the man’s a Neanderthal, and the lady’s a regular ol’ Homo Sapiens), they, without realizing it, inspired literal thousands upon thousands of years of storytelling, and of the many, MANY concepts of the “hero” figure throughout all of human history.

Guess which ones are which!

Merry Christmas y’all!

Inspired by this song called “Why Wait” by Hania Zdunek.

I wanted to combine my love of both history and fantasy, alongside evoking the themes on the universality of love.

Here, deep within a catacomb-church that was once a minotaur’s lair, a lass offers a meal to the original owner of this place.

Despite of being different faiths, she is more than happy to invite her lover over. The Legionary doesn’t really know how to react to he fact that his girlfriend is friends with a monster that his mother used to tell stories before bed-time.

Concept Art for a short story I’m working on.

Hades and the Souls of the Underworld make their last stand against the infernal legion, led by Beelzebub and his swarm. Hades here is the good guy... because I am most annoyed by portrayals where he’s a devil stand-in :P (Disney’s Hercules gets a free pass because he’s hilarious and iconic).

Greetings everyone! As y’all know, I have some free time, so lemme share this series of WIPS I’ve been doing! Basically a sequel to this piece, set in the same universe but focusing on the gods themselves. Here are the head honchos of the Pantheons, and representing the Great 9 Powers of the Universe.

For those of you that haven’t been following me for a while, basically what I’m working on is a world building project where what would happen if gods, djinns and angels were to manifest themselves into our material universe? And it the scale of the setting is the literal universe, with gods ruling galaxies and deconstructing the trope ‘humans are special’... by making us humans the “alien invaders” to everyone else. A lot of my other work can be seen here on my Deviantart.

The goal is to reinterpret world mythology in a science fantasy like setting, but I also aim to at least try to stay faithful as possible to the original myths, while weaving an over-arching plot. Some interpretations of myths will be combined for the sake of characterization and plot.

From top to bottom.

  • Nammu (who is also Tiamat), The Archangel Michael and Retinue (He’s nice to his friends and even has the local giant monster as a “bodyguard”), and Kukulcan duking out with Tezcatlipoca
  • The Jade Emperor, Vishnu the Preserver and Amaterasu, whose Kusanagi contains the spirit of the not-quite-dead Orochi.
  • The classic trio of Ra (who is really fun to work with in this setting), Odin and Zeus (who has more of his myth-accurate jerkishness).

Also... Amongst them there is no true ‘bad guy’ faction... I’m not a big fan of that kind of stuff unless one faction composed entirely of ‘bad guys’.

Happy Belated Mother’s Day (on the American Calender, as Indonesian Mother’s Day comes waaaay later xD).

For this Mermay piece, I thought it’d be fun to a draw a mermaid that was adopted by another humanoid mythological being that’s almost always depicted as antagonistic... Bonus points for a very different lifestyle.

So here, the Mom is a Harpy, whom had a soft-spot for abandoned things, and so adopted a young Mermaid who was all on her own.

Though it was hard at first, she managed to turn out A-Okay.

Other Harpy’s view this as weird and un-Harpy-like.. Meanwhile the local fishermen just thinks it’s interesting (as long as they ain’t disturbin’ the fish).

Last WIP for tonight. Something special for mythology fans... Especially fans of Hades!

Tired of Hades’ being a devil stand in? Well here he FIGHTS demons instead! Because why would he ally with beings that probably would burn the Elysium fields? All the monsters and men of Hellas unites to fight the infernal menace.

btw that cerberus vs beelzebub. Root for the doggo, for cerberus is a good boi and not evil.

What’s this? Two posts in one day? Unheard of!

Drew this one while on retreat, basically a Science Fantasy version of Hades for my Project Pantheon series.

In this setting he’s actually a pretty cool guy, and actually defended the Underworld from a literal daemon. He may have lost an arm, but he got a cool new replacement and crown carved from its bones.

A composition piece of my creature design series, Project Pantheon. The goal was to draw a science fantasy version of a creature from multiple world mythologies.

From top to bottom:

Azi Dahaka (of Zoroastrian Mythology) Tiamat (of Mesopotamian Mythology) Gong-Gong (of Chinese Mythology and folktales) Vritra (of Hinduism) Ammit (of Egyptian Mythology) Fenrir (of Norse Mythology) 2 Heads of Orochi (of Japanese folklore and Shinto) Behemoth (from Abrahamic Tradition) Typhon (from Classical Mythology)

And Nammu, the Sumerian goddess, whom the Babylonians cribbed and turned her into Tiamat.

The rest of the series is right under the cut :)

My Personal Creature and Character Design Project, aka Project Pantheon

Basically, I sought out to redesign and interpret the “Great Beasts” of multiple mythologies into cosmic-scale kaijus, set in a science-fantasy universe where all the gods, goddesses, angels and other divine beings of human mythology. As the beasts that are said to be so powerful that they are world-breaking... Each beast represents a different extinction event, and the beast they are based off are meant to reflect that (with the exception of Ammit, who’s actually just a fierce servant).

Each great beast serves as a servant, willing or otherwise to a Pantheon in this setting, with only Tiamat as the exception, as she’s her own boss, in the form of Nammu.

From top to bottom (with their bios written in my DA account):

Behemoth, representing the Abrahamic Pantheon and the Cretaceous Extinction Event

Typhon, representing the Greek Pantheon and the Permian Extinction Event

Fenrir, representing the Norse Pantheon and the Ice Age

Ammit, representing the Egyptian Pantheon and the Triassic Extinction Event

Azi Dahaka, representing the Zoroastrian Pantheon and the Ordovician Extinction Event

Orochi representing the Japanese Pantheon and the Holocene/Anthropocene Extinction Event

Vritra, representing the Hindu Pantheon and the Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse

Gong-Gong representing the Chinese Pantheon and the Devonian Extinction Event

Nammu-Tiamat, representing the Mesopotamian Pantheon and the Cambrian Extinction Event.

As a monster fan as well as a paleontology & world mythology enthusiast, this one of the funnest series I ever had the pleasure to do. :)
