Smaugust 2024 - The Legacy of Dragons in Beast Fables
And the final part of Smaugust 2024 from my end, focusing on dragons in terms of their legacy within the world of Urvara.

And the final part of Smaugust 2024 from my end, focusing on dragons in terms of their legacy within the world of Urvara.
So here's what I've been working on for Smaugust 2024!
Worldbuilding for my Beast Fables setting, and taking the "Dinosaurs are Dragons" trope literally, for dragons in Beast Fables are sauropsid based chimera.
In the Primeval Age of Urvara, where were-dinosaurs and other were-prehistoric beasties were still around, dragons could be derived from anything from dinosaurs to giant crocodiles to ichthyosaurs!
Do dragons exist in your Werefolk Universe?
That's something I unfortunately cannot say at the moment, as I'm keeping a lot of details close to my chest. <:)
So! For this Smaugust, I basically revisit my Pantheons setting, and decided to do some Science Fantasy interpretations of mythologies beasties. Pantheons is essentially a what-if scenario in the future, where gods and mortals walk alongside one another, and by extension, mythology’s monsters.
Batch 1: Chaoskampf-Level Giants
- Gonggong/Kanghui: An insane dragon representing the Devonian Mass Extinction, not satisfied being a giant water elemental, wants to learn the secrets of human-god magic.
- Behemoth: A Cosmic T.rex Guardian of a titanic planet where many of the major monsters of the Galaxy originates from. As a representation of the K-Pg extinction event, his fists are usually all that’s needed to obliterate anything, but a energy laser is always convenient!
- Niddhogg: A snarky, short tempered cosmic Spinosaurus that can tear through the fabric of space, entering in-and-out of Yggdrasil, snapping up planets in his maw. He less represents ONE extinction, and more how extinction can come in anytime.
- Orochi: Once a mighty Yokai that represented the Anthropocene Extinction Event, he’s now reduced to a ghost trapped in Amaterasu’s sword, Kusanagi.
Batch 2: “True” Dragons
- The Red Dragon of Wales: A guardian of the realm of the Arthurian realm called Avalon, beloved by all. (Avalon is a mix between The British Isles, France and Iberia, aka the areas where
- The Cuelebre: The Golden Dragon, who found out that you can get more treasure by selling booze rather trying to raid and hoard gold.
- Illuyaka: A Great Electric Eel, who USED to be a big shot, but his confidence was absolutely crushed after losing to Tarhunz, the Hittite Storm God (well... one of them. They have a lot).
- Zmeya Gorynishche: An evil slaving dragon who haunts mortals after having lost her pups, and now leads a band of monstrous pirates.
Batch 3: Great Shapeshifters
- Kukulcan/Quetzalcoatl: A Grand Beast that’s also the head of multiple pantheons, he’s actually pretty pleasant. Doesn’t like Tezcatlipoca much though.
- Fafnir: A mobster dwarf AND a dragon. Don’t make him mad, lest he feels peckish, so be sure to be on time to pay back those loans...
- Nammu/Tiamat: Both a queen and a literal monster, she revels in being both the highest authority in the Mesopotamian Pantheon AND a giant monster feared by all. She loves picking on Marduk.
- Rahab/Sandalphon: A Cherubim who was once a mighty dragon-looking angel, feared by many, until she interacted more and more with the galaxy, and decided, in her heart, she’d feel more comfortable having a more humanoid form. She can still shapeshift to the dragon form however, when it’s convenient.
FINALLY posting something! Something joyful after all the hooplah over the last week, inspired by my experience of going to the Natural History Museum in London. It was one of the most magical experiences of my life, and I hope it got captured in this piece. Here, Luz visits the “Bonesborough Museum of Natural History”.
Find all the references!
Also serves as a preview of the first chapter of my fanfic (I’m getting heart palpitations thinking about it).
The Dragons of Dark Souls: A Tribute
Finally completed this beast in celebration of Dark Souls Remastered’s Release!
Art Note: I changed Seath’s position from bottom to the top (seen here), as I wanted to parallel Seath’s introduction in the opening cinematic... as well as wanting to deal with all that negative space.
And now, for a jolly good explanation as to why I love the dragons of Dark Souls so much!
First and foremost, I love that each dragon has its own unique look at silhouette, where there designs alone tell a story or tells something about their powers. And all of them exhude a feeling of scale and power in different ways, Midir’s Size, Tattered Wings and Lazer Breath vs Kalameet’s sleeker, but iconic Black-and-Red motifs... And his middle eye.
Meanwhile, Seath for me is also a standout example of fantastic creature design. He’s a legless, scaleless pale dragon, who has tentacles instead of feat, with insectoid wings. THAT’S something you don’t see often in dragon designs. It works in-universe as well, as it just SCREAMS “different”.
As a fan of monsters and dragons, I always can look at the Souls Series for amazing dragon designs (and not to mention memorable boss fights as a result). Thank you FromSoft, for giving us such wonderful beasts!
Line Art for my tribute to the Souls series, specifically it’s dragons.
Originally I was going to wait until I was finished with the colored version, but I enjoyed working on the lineart so much, I thought I’d share it with you guys as well :).
Quick Drawing, inspired by the in-game Description of his soul:
The Nameless King was once a dragon-slaying god of war, before he sacrificed everything to ally himself with the ancient dragons
While I was brainstorming the sequel for my Deities picture, I thought: What if the Nameless King (and his Dragons) defeated Gwyn? Plus I wanna draw something in my usual artstyle, and what better subject than my favorite Dark Souls character?
For this pic, I will refer to him as Gwyntaran, God of War and Lord of Dragons. I wanted to give this version of NK a vibe of a Conqueror, the god who overcame the wrath of the Lord of Sunlight and took his father’s crown and greatsword for his own. Even his shoulder armor is modified to look more like Gwyn’s. As a symbol of his power, drakes (like the hellkite drake), wyverns and a certain Darkeater guard and watch over the skies of Anor Londo, and storms have as much presence as the sun. Despite this however, he lives a constant state of battle as there are many who’d probably still be loyal to his father, and thus it’s up to him to “quell” these loyalists. In battle, he wields the Dragonslayer Swordspear in his right hand, and the Great Lord Greatsword in his left.
He’s always the first on the frontlines and the last to leave, and his influence is felt from all corners of the world of DS, from Archdragon Peak to Anor Londo itself, with ambitions to go further east to Forossa (where he’s known as Faraam) and beyond. Perhaps even the Ringed City may fall under his circle of influence, rather than be used as a glorified prison as Gwyn intended. He travels around upon his trusty companion, the stormdrake, though now he has a whole host of mounts he could use to travel.
The look for his face is heavily inspired by Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher along with... Edward Kenway from AC. They had the right look of the gruff and rugged protagonist I was looking for. He got that scar from his final duel with big daddy Gwyn.

Hey there Tumblr! I just wanted to thank all 61 followers who have followed my wee lil' Tumblr. To be honest, this was supposed to be my 50 follower milestone, but because I've been busy with college prep and making my portfolio plus trying to keep old promise to actually finish pieces.
So for this post, I'm gonna be busy submitting some of the WIPs and sketches and pieces that I've completed over the months when I submitted almost next to no art.
Again, thank you everyone for following me throughout my first year on Tumblr! Here's to another beautiful year on Tumblr :).
A series of lineart (too be colored) as an idea for college. I believe one of the requirements is to give evidence that you want to tell stories. Here's just one. Basically I want to create a story set in Renaissance Europe, where "Magic" as we traditionally see in Fantasy Stories, live side by side with people since the beginning. A good introduction would be how Dragons would look like beside their respective country of origin.
The Dragon on the top is a Portuguese dragon (based on the dragon on Portugal's coat of arms).
Below 'em is a Spanish Dragon and a Turkish dragon (based off my interpretation of Zilat).
Just my interpretation, and just a few of many ideas I hope to explore in college. I just gotta learn how to deal with Maya, I'm telling ya, going from 3dsmax to Maya ain't easy.
So here's my latest request pic. I was requested to draw VALOK! the The UNDEAD WYRM! C'MON DRAGONS MAN! ALWAYS AWESOME! http://kaijucombat.com/community/index.php?threads/valok-the-rage-the-undead-wyrm.9294/
As always there's always a version on my Deviant Art.
Draygons update time! As some of you have been informed, Draygons is starting a bit later than we expected, but it is still coming soon! Autumn is now our tentative launch period for the Draygons comic proper! Happy Autumn! The dragons shown in this teaser aren’t just any dragons - they are the GODS of the Northern Pantheon. Since this is a world where dragons rule, it only makes sense that the gods who made it look like dragons too. From right to left, top to bottom: Laidley, Goddess of Justice Fafnir, God of Wealth Wantley, God of Misfortune Wawelski, God of Gluttony Landvaetur, God of Compassion Gorynych, God of Calamity Stay tuned for more Draygons to come!
This is still a thing that is happening!
Yay Dragons! Also I clicked the "fave" button three times because I'm still unfamiliar with the overall reblog system of Tumblr!
