Chapter Eight

"I have been talking to the Founders!" Hermione said, feeling her ire rise. They lived in a magical castle with bloody magic. Voldemort had been brought back from the dead multiple times. Hermione had used a time turner for Merlin's sake! Why was it so hard for him to believe that she had met the Founders?

"Here we go again," he muttered, shaking his head.

"The parties are always in Helga's rooms. Godric was gone on a hunt last time, but Salazar is perfectly pleasant and —"

"Salazar!" he said throwing his hands up in the air.

"And Rowena thinks that you are cheating on me!" she accused, unable to help herself.

It was as if all the air in the room had been sucked out. Hermione could hear her heart beating wildly in her chest, the constant swoosh of blood loud in her ears. This conversation had been a long time coming, but she did not feel entirely prepared to have it.

"Are you even listening to yourself right now?" Ron asked, looking at her like she hit her head.

Chapter Six

Suddenly, Hermione realized that only she was left with Salazar and she looked up at him with a shy smile. He was staring down at her with an eyebrow raised, silently wondering what she was doing here. "Nimue suggested we stop by for a visit and really didn't leave much room for argument," Hermione said in a rush, shyly tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Yes, she has a way of doing that," Salazar said, sounding halfway between amused and irritated.

There was a brief moment of awkwardness between the two of them that Hermione was desperate to fill. After all, it wasn't as if Salazar had invited them all there. "So, they mentioned you are brewing something?" she asked, hoping to smooth things over a bit.

"Ah, yes," Salazar agreed, twin points of pink appearing on his cheeks.

"What new potion has caught your eye?" Hermione asked, suddenly very curious. "You are a renowned potioneer, after all."

Chapter Five

"Godric decided to put together a hunting party at the last minute, so many of them went out riding about a week ago," Nimue explained with a dreamy sigh.

"Hunting?" Hermione asked. "What are they hunting, exactly?"

"Oh, just deer, but I know Godric is looking for an elusive Qilin that has been sighted near the school," she said, rolling her eyes. "I guess he thinks it will determine him to be pure of heart. Or that is his hope. But, come, Rowena has been wanting to meet you and I see her just over there!"

"Oh, I'm sure that she has much better things to do than to speak to me," Hermione tried to demure, but Nimue was pulling her over to where the pretty witch was waiting, speaking to another couple.

Suddenly, she was standing in front of the stately looking witch and was so taken aback by her beauty. Her raven black hair was pulled back in a heavy plait and she looked beautiful in her blue and silver robes. Her gaze swept over Hermione's face and you could practically see the intelligence in her eyes. "So, you are the witch that they call Hermione?" she asked.

Hermione felt a giddy laugh bubble up in her chest. "You know me? You really know me?" she asked. "Wow, I can't believe it. You are Rowena Ravenclaw and you know who I am."

"Yes, Salazar has mentioned you. It seems like you quite amuse him," Rowena said with a hint of a smirk. "And, he mentioned that you seemed rather intelligent as well. He suggested that we meet. And well, any witch that Salazar deigns to mention is worth knowing, in my book."

"Wow," Hermione said. She wasn't sure that she and Salazar had that sort of...relationship. She couldn't deny the warm feeling that spread in her stomach to know that she'd made such an impression on the wizard. "I didn't know that I'd made such an impression."

Writing Update

Chapter Three

"I wouldn't say that I'm miserable," a voice caught her out of her own musings.

Hermione saw Nimue looking wide-eyed over her shoulder and spun on her heel to come face to face with Salazar Slytherin himself. She flushed, embarrassed at being caught saying something so uncharitable behind his back.

"Oh, I didn't mean it like...that," she said, lamely. She felt supremely guilty.

Salazar snorted at her in disbelief. "How did you mean it then?" he asked.

"I just meant that you...you seemed to prefer being on your own," Hermione said, hoping to be as delicate as possible. He was still one of the four founders of Hogwarts, and she didn't really fancy offending him so much.

He laughed at her.

Suddenly, Hermione began to feel a little bit of annoyance bubbling up inside of her. "Nevermind. I stand by what I said. You are rude. You told Godric you were trying to get rid of me yesterday," she said, indigent. "And tonight you were eavesdropping. So, I've said it. I find you rude."

It has been forever since I’ve done a writing update, looking the months ahead (mostly because it seems I can never actually keep to them…) but since we are coming down to the very end of Trials it seemed as good a time as any.

Chapter One

"I'm really sorry to bother you. My questions must seem so preposterous," she said, wanting to apologize for annoying him when she clearly had. "I just...I feel a little bit like I've hit my head. These people...these famous witches and wizards shouldn't be here."

Before he was able to formulate an answer to her apology, Hermione was grabbed from behind and lifted into the air.

"And just who is this little witch?" a booming voice asked.

"Oh Godric, you scared me!" Hermione said, pressing a hand to her chest to slow her rapidly beating heart.

"You don't say?" the wizard said with a great belly laugh, before lifting his mug to his lips. His great, red mustache rested in the foam of whatever ale he was drinking.

Hermione blinked at him, taking in every inch of him. He was barrel-chested and broad, with long ginger hair and beard. He seemed to be of an age with Rowena. It was with that thought that Hermione realized who he was. "Godric Gryffindor?" she stammered, wondering how it was true. "Hogwarts founder?"

"Ha, yes, the very same," he said, staring at her with twinkling green eyes. "Salazar, where did you find this delightful witch and why have you been hiding her away from everyone else?"

Salazar, Hermione said to herself, her eyes widening. Could it be that the wizard she'd run into was none other than Salazar Slytherin? Oh no, something really must have gone wrong.

June 2021 Writing Update :)

I don’t know why I am struggling so much with my Salazar x Hermione one shot. I feel so strongly about the concept, but whenever I sit down to write nothing comes out. Every now and then I will get a burst of inspo and it feels so easy to write it, but it’s always short lived. I don’t really know what to do about it.

Part of me wants to just put out the scenes of it here on tumblr, sort of like I did for Gym Rats, but I also don’t want to disappoint by not having any idea of when it would be finished. It’s been months and months and I just want to close the door on it, once and for all, but I know I won’t be able to do that until it’s completed.

Future Work

I hope that I am not shooting myself in the foot by posting another one of these and being overly ambitious, but here are some things I hope to put out this year in addition to giving my older works some much needed polishing.

June Update :)

Maybe I am insane to try and post this again, since I basically missed all my targets last year, but....here is what I think I might have in store for the year. Who knows when inspiration will strike though!
