Karma Ashcroft being precious

Okay but like Karma’s own mom cared more about the fact that Amy slept with a boy than she did that Karma’s best friend in the whole wide world betrayed her. This just shows the Ashcroft family dynamic where they do care about Karma but Amy (and probably Zen) come first because Amy and Zen had harder situations. Amy is a lesbian who lives with a conservative mother and Zen was adopted. Karma didn’t have to deal with either of those things so her parents assume she has it easy so they put her on the backburner. This is why Karma always feels like she’s not worth being the first priority, and that’s why she always feels so insecure and not good enough.

That’s why it was so important for Karma to come out as gay to her parents.  They can’t see that Karma has way tougher things to deal with than being gay in the most liberal town in the world (like her constant anxiety). They only validate her feelings when a situation is hard by their standards. This is why Karma told Liam that her parents were just as image-obsessed as his (which by the way he totally dismissed because he’s a self-absorbed asshole). Karma’s parents, like many parents, only take the issues that they can see seriously. They can’t see the fact that she hates herself, or that she’s so desperate for validation that she’ll do anything, and that’s why Karma acts out for attention. Not because she’s a “selfish bitch” like so many people in this fandom believe.
