Tom needed a break from the spotlight. He was sick of getting caught up in the glitz and glamour of things, he just wanted to go somewhere different. Somewhere that wasn’t LA or NYC- he wanted a small town. He found himself traveling to a small town in Western Massachusetts in the fall, immediately falling in love with the foliage.
He loved the red, orange and yellow leaves falling slowly and peacefully to the ground. The air was crisp, not too cold or too hot. The waterfalls within the open field ran gently, the soothing sound of running water filling his ears. Making his way out of his small motel room, he found a quaint coffee shop right across the street. It was a small shop, much smaller than the ones in the big cities. There was no hustle and bustle of city sidewalks or the constant sound of sirens and honking from emergency vehicles and city drivers. That was where he met you. You were in line, eyes fixated on the menu. Your hair was tied behind you in a loose braid, just enough to keep it out of your eyes but not tight enough to give you a headache.
Before he knew what he was doing, he was getting in line behind you, his eyes focusing on the menu. “Recommend anything?” He asked, catching your attention. “You’re not from around here are you?” You responded, a smile spreading on your face. It had been a long time since someone new came to town. He smiled and shook his head, his curls flopping gently on his forehead. “What gave it away?” He grinned, making you chuckle. “So you’re British, then? Do you like tea?” You asked, receiving a nod from Tom. “Their peppermint tea is really good. Always good for a fall morning.” You told him, hearing a “next!” ring out. “I’ll have a medium peppermint tea please! And uh, my friend here- he’ll have the same thing.” You ordered, taking Tom by surprise. “Wait-” “Will that be all?” The cashier asked, getting a “yes” from you before you handed him the cash and Tom joined you to wait for the drinks.
