Hello, my name is NattiKay, and welcome to my blog! Before you follow, there’s a thing you should know about how I do fandom.

Basically, it can take one of two forms. The first is casual fandoms—this includes various media I enjoy and will like/reblog posts about, maybe even doodle for on rare occasions. I can have several of these simultaneously.

But the second—and much more visible—is a “main” fandom, which you can also call hyperfixation or special interest if you wish. I only have one of these at a time, it lasts for years, and it pretty much takes over my life and blog during that time. Once every few years or so my brain will latch on to a new “main” fandom—I don’t know what triggers it to switch, and I have zero control over when it happens or to what.

My current special-interest fandom is Avatar (James Cameron/blue people), with a bonus mini-fixation on the Na'vi language. My favorite characters are the Sully family and much of my art focuses on them right now.

Previous special-interest fandoms that I’ve had during my time on tumblr are, in descending order of recency:

Trollhunters/Tales of Arcadia Miraculous Ladybug Inuyasha

I make this distinction to say that if you recently found this blog through fanart of one of these previous fixations and followed hoping for more, I’m sorry to say you’re going to be disappointed.

When my fixation switches, I loose interest in actively creating content for the previous fandom because all my energy gets dedicated to the new one. This does not at all mean that I no longer like the previous ones—I may still reblog posts about them here and there—just that I no longer have the inspiration to be producing a bunch of art/comics/etc for them the way I used to. They’ve essentially moved from main fandom to casual fandoms. Yes, this will happen one day for my current fixation too, though I have no way of predicting when.

I will not be offended if you follow me during one fixation and then unfollow when it switches. I will also not be offended if you recently found this blog through my old content from previous fandoms and then choose not to follow because of this post: like I said, if you follow hoping for new art from those, you’re gonna be let down 😅

I've always wondered so obviously we know of some blind Na'vi I'm sure as well as there would be deaf Na'vi. What I'm interested in is, as someone who wears glasses and eyesight is so bad without glasses, would Na'vi eyesight degenerate and if so to the point that it would affect daily life.

For example, I myself can only see a few inches infront of my clearly, I have gotten lost in the beach when I had no glasses on because I couldn't see ppl faces and didn't know where my friends were. If a Na'vi did have eyesight as degenerated to that point would they just be classed as blind? We don't see them make glass unless it naturally occurred so it isn't like they have glasses and I don't image any of the shimmerwing membrane used on their flight brow band is effective.

If that is the case that would suck so bad ;-; just be classified as blind because you can't hunt, go around safely or even really ride anything due to the fact of it being a blurred mess of colours, shapes and light.

I'd love to hear others thoughts on this

🤔 I don’t see any reason why there couldn’t or wouldn’t be some individuals with poor vision. As for what those individuals would do about it…

It’s true that the Omatikaya clan uses shimmyfly wings for their visors, but the Tawkami clan is known to make custom glass for theirs. So I suppose prescription-type glasses are not necessarily out of the question, though of course the availability of such would likely vary by clan.

A solution I personally find a bit more interesting—which could apply both to the visually impaired as well as the truly blind—is a literal seeing-eye companion. If tsaheylu allows the sharing of thoughts, feelings, memories, and phsyical sensations, is it possible to also share visual input? Imagine a blind/impaired Na'vi with a little animal companion perched on their shoulder being able to “see” through the eyes of said companion!

actually, do ya know what common Avatar misconception is even more annoying than "they have sex with their hair"?

"they have sex with their tails"

because not only were you not paying attention when they explain what the "hair thing" is (basically a biological USB that lets them neurologically connect to the world around them), you weren't even paying enough attention to realize that the tail and the kuru are two separate body parts

....speaking of the Mangkwan/Mangkuan clan being confirmed to the the ash clan, though, I wonder if we'll get an easter egg cameo of Ateyo and Artsut 🤔

I highly doubt the events of the comic would be directly mentioned, since I'm pretty sure Cameron or Izzo or someone has stated somewhere that while the comics are canon, they don't want anyone to need to read them to understand what's going on in the movies; they want the plot of the movies to be able to stand on its own for the general audience without requiring context from "extra" material like the comics and game. Which means that major, direct references to the comics/game/etc are very unlikely.

But a small detail like some familiar faces in a crowd for dedicated eagle-eyed fans to spot? That's certainly not out of the question...🤔

So apparently it's now been officially confirmed that the "Mangkwan" clan briefly mentioned at the end of The Next Shadow comics IS indeed the "ash clan" that will be featured in Fire and Ash (a lot of people speculated this before but it wasn't confirmed until now).

...which is all fine and dandy, except that kw is still not a valid consonant cluster, Karyu Pawl plz explain, the language nerds are crying 😭 Was this perhaps a typo of Mangkuan or Mangkawn? Or a new dialect that allows for more clusters? Or something else?

Right now my theory is that it's gonna be Mangkuan and the Mangkuan vs Mangkwan spelling difference will essentially be the same as Omatikaya vs Omaticaya (the first one being the technically "correct" one per Na'vi phonetics but the second still showing up in some canon material).

Part of the problem here, I think, comes down to what I'm gonna call the Cameron Paradox. James Cameron didn't create the Na'vi language; he created a small list of words, as well as all the character names (from the movies at least, idk about the comics and games), then hired linguist Paul Frommer (Karyu Pawl) to do the rest. Cameron's grammatical/phonetic/etc understanding of the language Frommer built, from what I can tell, seems to be pretty limited; those details are Frommer's realm. So it's very possible that Cameron chose the name Mangkwan because it sounded cool and simply had no idea that it's technically invalid within the sound system Frommer set up.

However...while Cameron himself isn't the one who created the Na'vi language, he does technically own it. It's a commissioned work and therefore Cameron, as the commissioner, has the power to override Frommer if he wishes. If Cameron has his heart set on "Mangkwan", Frommer doesn't really have a choice but to work around that. He might end up doing that by hand-waving it as a special spelling variation of "Mangkuan" (again like the explanation of c vs k in Omatikaya), or he might end up doing it by incorporating some sort of special new dialect rules for the Ash People. Or maybe some other solution that I haven't thought of. We just don't know yet.

...and Karyu Pawl might not actually be legally allowed to address it until after the movie's release date, so we might be waiting for a quite a while to find out ;w;

Sully girls matching outfits ✨ I love that it’s canon that they take inspiration from each other. Tuk imitating Kiri’s style and Kiri imitating Neytiri’s

+ young Kiri and Tuktirey
