I’m working on some new content, which will be posted on both my tumblr AND this website, so stay tuned, check it out and let me know what you think! Would love to hear some feedback from the Tumblr community! Happy Friday folks!
It gives me great pleasure to announce that I am diving back into my photographic project entitled ‘friends’. For those of you that aren’t aware, I started this project in my final year of university and it involves my Facebook friends. If you’re interested, or would just like to know more details, please feel free to get in touch and I’d be happy to discuss the project further.

Another image from my portrait series that explores the genuine identities behind social media. Depicting each user as a human being, stripped of all material distractions, portrayed in a way that is reminiscent of neoclassical sculptural art.

the project evolved after adopting an analytical approach towards social theories, social media and identity. Drawing inspiration from Roman and Greek sculpture, the work produced is interwoven with neoclassical ideologies. Sculptural busts were known as physical avatars for personality and emotional expression, with facial features often believed to be the best conveyors of personality. In a similar way, portraiture became the tool here for conveying a sense of truth to the subject. By removing the 'mask' of Facebook and revealing the authentic characters beneath, friends becomes a portrayal of identity. The audience is encouraged to engage solely with the sitter. With no knowledge of cultural or social background, it highlights how alike, yet remarkably unique, each of us is.

Over the next month, I’m going to be sharing some images from my final major project that I started in my last year of University. It was the start to a very large and ambitious project that I hope to someday complete. If you’re eager to see more from this project, feel free to get in touch or head over to my website (www.nathanielreeks.com) where you can also read more about the concept too.
..and for anyone that really falls in love with the project, I have a limited edition self-published zine available for purchase too, again, get in touch if you wish to know more about this.
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, been a bit hectic what with final year of university and all! Here’s a shot from a few shoots that kickstarted my current main project! The project is being kept under wraps, except for a few glimpses you can find on some social media sites promoting my grad show in June, which is where the full body of work ‘Friends’ will debut! Stay tuned and if you’re interested in this project, any other projects OR my grad show, please don’t hesitate to ask away! :)
