i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

Your best friend dies. Your best friend hasn't been your best friend for centuries, in fact they've been known to refer to you as an enemy.

But your best friend has died and wants their remains to be brought home. And you agree to bring them back to where you grew up together (as best friends) because that was your best friend.

And on the way your best friend comes back, as some unnatural version of themselves that isn't your best friend and you both crash. You get greviously injured, so bad in fact everything about you changes, not just your exterior but the very fibre of your being. You've changed before but now you're more unlike your best friend than ever.

And your best friend, no longer dead, decides to destroy the whole universe, everything anybody has ever known or loved or cherished, but you stop them at the last minute, because that's the waltz you and your best friend have been dancing to for decades.

And you see your best friend hurt people and you forgive them anyway because that's your best friend; how could you they ever be unforgivable?

And your best friend refuses to take your hand. Your best friend refuses to accept your forgiveness, rather dying than accepting your outstretched hand.

You're enemies, aren't you?

Your best friend dies. You bring them home.

on the one hand, it's so funny how every time the doctor has to introduce the master to new companions they never fail to mention that they used to friends. “this is my evil archenemy but we were in the academy together, we used to run in the red grass before the murder attempts” even though we literally just saw the master committing multiple atrocities.

but. on the other hand. the tragedy of it all. it's the doctor saying: this is the site of grief that's now a festering wound. this is scar tissue still tender to the touch, this is the relentlessness of memory. this is a ghost, this is a monster, this is a haunting, this is an unburied grave. this is love as terror, love as horror, love that came back from the dead as a hunger. this is what it means to remember. this was my first love and the only thing i cannot outrun.

and then we cut to the master who is committing more atrocities

Like I wonder if the Master sometimes finds out about some of the Doctor’s more questionable/controversial decisions? Like they’ll be digging through stuff in the Doctor’s TARDIS and find out they just keep the Carrionites screaming for all eternity basically in a globe. They’d just be like: “Oh, Doctor! Now that is fascinating! That’s just plain cruel…. I gotta admit, I almost didn’t expect this from you!” *Vigorously shakes the object like it’s a damn snow globe* 😂

the master has an amoral compass; it points to the doctor.

The Master if he watched the events of The Waters of Mars in the Matrix

Ten: “THE LAWS OF TIME ARE MINE! AND THEY WILL OBEY ME!!!”

The Master: *Nearly passes the f*ck out, falls down, and does not get up for a very long time*
