how many books did you publish before you were able to consider yourself an author? i've put up three of them and still feel like i'm faking it most days. does that feeling ever go away?

Avatar

some buds publish forty books and still feel like an imposter and some get a good idea and say 'i am an author'. chuck happens to be the latter. ive been an author since long before i wrote a single word because of one simple buckaroo truth: theres SO MUCH MORE to writing than writing.

there is thinking and dreaming and learning and listening and feeling, these are all important parts of the process not just for telling stories but for creating ANY art. probably want to observe reality a bit before you comment on it.

so GUESS WHAT bud. YOU ARE AN AUTHOR. you have been since long before your first story. honestly you probably were an author before you were born and you will continue to be one long after you ride the lonesome train.

we are the ones who define ourselves, not the timeline that surrounds us, do not forget this INCREDIBLE POWER you have and do not be afraid to use it as an artist and creator.

you are a great artist already. we are ALL great artists already.

now that you dont need to worry about that anymore get trottin along and create something special

Butch Women Talk About What It Means to Be Butch. Originally posted by them on Youtube. Excerpts featuring Cade Russo Young, a 37 year-old butch dyke.

TRANSCRIPT:
What isn’t sexy about other butches, are you kidding! Oh, my god! To me, butch means someone who I was brought up by, and admire. Butch is nuanced. Butch is more than we’ve been talking about. Just because I identify as a butch dyke and a cis woman right now, it doesn’t mean I always will. Who you are, right now in this moment, is perfect. And if that changes, you’ll be perfect in that moment too.

Here's to the disabled people who aren't inspirations. Who aren't "overcoming their diagnosis" and achieving incredible things "despite their disability." Here's to the people struggling in school. Here's to the people on sick leave. Here's to the dropouts. The unemployed. The ones on welfare and disability. The ones who are economically dependent on others. The ones in the hospitals and the group homes. Here's to the ones whose struggles aren't lessened by extraordinary abilities and achievements. Here's to the ones struggling - and failing - to be average. I see you, and I hope you know that you are just as worthy of respect, support and compassion as anybody else - cause you are! Not being able to do certain things doesn't make you less of a person.

to lovely humans who were excluded from invitations, left behind when they tied their shoes, forced to walk in the grass when the sidewalk was full, spoken over when you tried to contribute, whispered about or laughed at, given the side eye when you tried to fit in... you are so worthy of love and I’m sorry people have convinced you otherwise. I promise that your people are out there - people who will see the side of you others ignore, people who share weird inside jokes with you, give you affectionate nicknames and go to museums or roadtrips with you and fulfil whatever idea of friendship you’ve always fantasized about. even if you feel like an empty shell of your former self because you’ve hidden yourself away due to shame, this exterior will melt when you accept yourself or let people in and you’ll realize there was nothing wrong with you all along. you have interesting things to say, you deserve new chances and beginnings, your heart is probably made of gold because you know what it’s like to be left out in the cold, and you have so much to give. you are so worthy and someone’s idea of a friend too, and I hope you receive lots of hugs in the future from yourself and others because you’re so lovable.

Actually life is beautiful because the sound I make while trying to breathe around hot food sounds like my dog trying to eat an apple. When I yawn my cat tries to put his face in my mouth like a little dentist man and when he yawns I put my finger in his obligate-carnivore trapzone and we both know he will not hurt me. When I do not fold my clothes, they do not hold it against me.

I am demonstrably sad, and lonely, and full of fear. But there are other people who will hold my hand, who will point out the hawk overhead, who will give you That Look in a public place. The other day at a coffee shop a child said "look! It's snowing!" so all of us strangers went to go look out the windows. It wasn't the first snow and it won't be the last but wasn't it lovely, like that?

How wonderful to live in a world where birds and frogs both say beep! How wonderful to have an ocean of beautiful sharks with their dinosaur teeth! How wonderful the moon and her changing face, how wonderful the bees and their dancing to communicate, how wonderful shrimp and their forbidden layers of vision! How wonderful, you, and what you will give the world! The way we love things enough to spend entire blogs devoted to them? How people will let me explain my Pokemon team to them? How we will both jump at the scare in the movie, how we laugh so loudly, how it feels to give someone your baking? How wonderful to be alive. I am sorry for forgetting.

This is the process of getting better. With wonderful people and wonderful strangers and wonderful friends: I am getting better, slowly. Thank you, whoever you are. In some way, you've been wonderful, and left a wonderful place in the world to ripple out to me. In some small way - isn't it beautiful - I promise, you've been helping.

When Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti began posting colorful illustrations of women and their stories to Facebook, she had no idea how popular they would become.
Thousands of shares throughout the world later, the appeal of Rosetti’s work is clear. Much like the street art phenomenon Stop Telling Women To Smile, Rossetti’s empowering images are the kind you want to post on every street corner, as both a reminder and affirmation of women’s bodily autonomy.
“It has always bothered me, the world’s attempts to control women’s bodies, behavior and identities,” Rossetti told Mic via email. “It’s a kind of oppression so deeply entangled in our culture that most people don’t even see it’s there, and how cruel it can be.”
Rossetti’s illustrations touch upon an impressive range of intersectional topics, including LGBTQ identity, body image, ageism, racism, sexism and ableism. Some characters are based on the experiences of friends or her own life, while others draw inspiration from the stories many women have shared across the Internet.
“I see those situations I portray every day,” she wrote. “I lived some of them myself.”
Despite quickly garnering thousands of enthusiastic comments and shares on Facebook, the project started as something personal — so personal, in fact, that Rossetti is still figuring out what to call it. For now, the images reside in albums simply titled “WOMEN in english!“ or ”Mujeres en español!“ which is fitting: Rossetti’s illustrations encompass a vast set of experiences that together create a powerful picture of both women’s identity and oppression.
One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the way it has struck such a global chord. Rossetti originally wrote the text of the illustrations in Portuguese, and then worked with an Australian woman to translate them to English. A group of Israeli feminists also took it upon themselves to create versions of the illustrations in Hebrew. Now, more people have reached out to Rossetti through Facebook and offered to translate her work into even more languages. Next on the docket? Spanish, Russian, German and Lithuanian.
It’s an inspiring show of global solidarity, but the message of Rossetti’s art is clear in any language. Above all, her images celebrate being true to oneself, respecting others and questioning what society tells us is acceptable or beautiful.
“I can’t change the world by myself,” Rossetti said. “But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another.”

Oooh. I reblogged a partial version of this recently but I didn’t know how many more there were! I LOVE these!

OK SO THERE ARE TONS MORE OF THESE OF THE ARTISTS FB PAGE. GUYS THESE ARE AWESOME.

LOOK

THESE

LETS APPLAUD CAROL ROSSETTI EVERYONE

  LOOK

Um, these are like the best thing ever.

I wish i got nice things like that. Everyone is always judging me based on my choices.

Everyone needs to see this! Spread this post!!!

A few of these I absolutely needed to save to remember at times

I’ll send it again because this is wonderful

My favorite thing about this is how there’s diversity in the women even when it isn’t relevant. There are more fat women than just the illustrations regarding body image. There are multiple women in wheelchairs even when the text isn’t focusing on it. there are so many different races and ethnicity even when that’s not what the words are focusing on. One of them doesn’t have a left arm and it isn’t the focus. It’s beautiful, showing the overlap between all these things.

Yes! I was going to say that too.

🥺 I love this.

your bare minimum isn’t actually that bare or minimum. my dad once told me that there’s nothing in this world that’s easy and that’s true tbh. everything we do takes energy, time, and effort. even the little things. if you feel like you’re not doing enough please try to think about your circumstances and what’s currently available to you: chances are, there’s something that’s diverting or otherwise draining you. and to pull away from that and get something done regardless? well, i think that’s really admirable! please try to take pride in the things you do accomplish in a day, no matter how small or trifling you perceive them to be. you can’t be proud of your growth if you don’t notice where you already are!

no offense but this conversation was literally a major turning point in my life

Being creative isn’t always fun

I think this is one of the most difficult things to realize. Be it writing or drawing or making music or crafting – it’s not fun. Not always.

I think we all expect it to be, I mean, why do it if it isn’t fun? It looks so easy when others do it. And then we get discouraged when things inevitably turn out to be more difficult than we thought. And then we blame ourselves!

It should be easy! This should be fun! I’m such a hack, I’m doing this wrong, I will never be good at this because it isn’t fun and it’s supposed to be fun, else it’s just a stupid waste of time.

We all feel this way sometimes.

Allow yourself to accept this. It isn’t always fun, sometimes it’s really difficult and you have to push through to get to the other part that is more fun.

It’s not easy, it’s not always fun but that doesn’t mean that it’s wrong to do it. You’re not wrong, you’re not stupid, you’re not a hack. Keep doing your thing.
