Did a small #tutorial for class on “How to Improve Storytelling in Panel Layouts”! Thought it might help some peepz around here!
Could you guys please give me some cat head/face drawing tips? (Not too realistic) I have been trying to draw some cat characters from a book franchise I love, but I can never really get the heads right! They always end up looking like furry circles and the faces look terrible. Thanks!
My basic trick to learning how to draw anything is to Study, then Simplify. First I traced over real cats’ faces in order to study their anatomy and accurately learn the proportions of facial landmarks such as eye, nose, and muzzle placement. Then, I redrew it freehand, noting some tips along the way. Repeating this process will preserve the muscle and cognitive memory of drawing!
These are some freehand sketches I did. You can accentuate a cat’s face by adding additional fur tufts to really make them look fluffy.
I also like to look at how other people draw cats. Warrior cats AMVs and PMVs on youtube are good ways to passively study how others draw cats, learning both what looks pleasing and what doesn’t.
Here are some more redlines featuring cat anatomy!

How I draw skin Part 2: DON”T DRAW NATIVE PEOPLE WITH RED SKIN!!!! A tutorial
For the first tutorial on how I draw skin, see the post here.
But seriously, I’ve seen too many drawings of Native characters with literal red/pink skin to count so just in case some of you are having troubles with drawing Native people, I’ve provided a guide for you. Please take my swatches if it helps!! and no more red skinned people, please <0<
Disclaimer: this tutorial is mainly about the artistic depictions of Indigenous Peoples in North America, where the slur and redskin caricature originated, but it would still be racist to draw other non-North/Central/South American Indigenous groups like this so…..don’t.
I was asked how I made the rainbow light effect in my last piece, so I put together a quick step by step.
A compilation of stuff I know about drawing Asian faces and Asian culture! I feel like many “How-To-Draw” tutorials often default to European faces and are not really helpful when drawing people of other races. So I thought I’d put this together in case anyone is interested! Feel free to share this guide and shoot me questions if you have any! I’m by no means an expert, I just know a few things from drawing experience and from my own cultural background.
AGE FEATURES TUTORIAL / CHECKLIST
In honour of Loki’s baby face and @visabeau ‘s comment on it, here’s a super quick little checklist for drawing characters as teens vs as older adults.
The difference is not a huge one, and is a lot more visible in a more exaggerated style than in a very realistic one. I draw Loki with pretty hooded/deep-set eyes in a way where the outer corners lie over the eyelids. To imagine a younger look would lift those heavy brows up a little and give the eyes a less slanted, more open look. He also has a super narrow and pretty soft overall face shape, but still I usually give him a sharply angled jaw and very high, noticeable cheekbones. These are softer and less pronounced on a younger face.
Basically if you want to age up a character, let gravity do its job. The bones grow a little but stay where they are. Everything else around the skull just sinks down. For a young character, make them soft and round and bouncy. That’s it.
Studying theatre mask / visual effects makeup is also a good way to practice character art! Lightening up an actor’s eyebrows, giving their eyes a more sunken/hooded look and bringing up their bone structure is an easy way to make them appear a little older. Similarly lightening up the eyes, darkening and lifting the brows, rounding out the cheeks and softening the jaw are used to achieve a more youthful look.
Cheers.
i didn’t mean to make this so long but i wanted to both analyze my own style and give other people a look into it! I hope someone can find some use for it!
Another crap thing I do to make references, if you like it I can make more tutorials but idk if someone would find sense in my crazy stuff hahaha
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? THIS IS SO CLEVER YOU SMART FUCK
I reblog this here to remember me to do that. è é
Damn..

For artists who have problems with perspective (furniture etc.) in indoor scenes like me - there’s an online programm called roomsketcher where you can design a house/roon and snap pictures of it using different perspectives.
It’s got an almost endless range of furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc and is easy to use. In addition to that, you don’t have to install anything and if you create an account (which is free) you can save and return to your houses.
Examples (all done by me):
Here’s an example for how you can use it
Great find, thanks!
OMG HEAVEN!!
Bless you!!!!
Very nice resource for those looking to improve their perspective, composition, and background rendering skills!

Hey. I’m gonna break down how to draw a Black/African/Dark Skinned person’s lips.
Hello! In celebration of a new year, I’m gonna show all of you a tip how to draw lips for Black/African/Dark Skinned people.
If you’re drawing a black/dark skinned person, the top lip is a slight step above or below their actual skin tone while the bottom lip can range from a faded pink to brown.
Black/African men’s and women’s lip lean towards “nude/palm of the hand” makeup color. Some cases it’s pink but everyone’s lip color varies from pink to brown. In my experience of going outside my house, the darker the person, the pinker the bottom lip is while the lighter brown skin lips will be closer to their actual skin tone.
Another note is that the pink /brown tone on the bottom of the lip is near the slit of the mouth, not the complete lip like lipstick makeup. Try adding different tones to a lip and blending both top and bottom lips together because everyone’s different! A very good detail to remember.
TL;DR: USE A REFERENCE. GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH DOESN’T BITE! Thank you for your time! Go out and draw them awesome dark skinned characters and people!
Trying to google a body reference picture that makes me understand how torso, hip and thigh are connected and work together while at the same time avoiding any porno like pictures (especially when looking for female reference) - parkour.
The struggle is Real.
But if you want some randomly spawning poses, Line of Action has an option for both clothed and nude models, Quick Poses has a pretty nice library of clothed and nude models in a variety of poses, and the New Masters Academy channel on Youtube also has ‘live’ model sessions you can draw along with. The poses aren’t Supremely Dynamic, although a lot of them do offer the contrapasto you might be looking for to understand connections and movement!
Also, @foervraengd has a really good anatomy tutorial series on deviantart that you might enjoy checking out. I always pick up hot tips from them.
Holy fuck you’re a lifesaver
Wandered into an article with 140 iconic cinematic shots, the comments complained there was no explanation to their composition. Decided to give it a run down and keep it to myself.
The compositions are mostly self explanatory but I wanted to see what patterns I could find. That’s just how you learn stuffs.

I made a thing! I was thinking about this for a few days - because I realized that when I was young, I was also frustrated about being given the same advice over and over - without really knowing what it meant!!
Here’s 5 techniques which I have done before which have helped me grow as an artist, which are good for 5-minute warmups or just straight up challenges for your sketchbook!
Obviously, these are not the ONLY techniques - they’re just the ones I find most fun! And maybe they’re not the most ‘correct’ ones out there, but it’s better than another comic about practicing more, right?
Good luck to everyone on their drawings!
