DOCTOR WHO S10E02 – SMILE
I am the Master, and you will obey me.
A little ink + red pencil tribute to the Master and their excellent fashion choices. Simm is my personal favourite, but I can say for sure that Delgado was the most fun to draw.
/!\TW : BLOOD
Here's the third card for my weird Masters tarot deck. After Simm!Master and Missy, here's Dhawan!Master.
But !! Before you scroll to see it, beware : there is a graphic depiction of blood and injuries. It's not made to be realistic, but it's still bloody. So... be safe. Scroll very fast if you don't want to see that.
And if you're still here... well ! I choose the Three of Swords. And here it is.
It's clearly the darkest of the lot. The colours, for first. I choose a dominance of purple, with a red light. Somewhere between Simm!Master's fire and Missy's cold water, I guess. But, as you may know... the card itself is not a funny one.
The Three of Swords representes the pain inflicted by words, actions. It's the card for someone experiencing heartbreak, emotional pain, sorrow and grief. It means that others have inflicted you intense emotional pain, and, most of the time, it was unexpected. And, well, Dhawan!Master... ! Of course, there is the truth of the Timeless Child, but I find that it's also a good representation of what must be his point of view, faced with the Doctor's reaction - especially the infamous "I am so much more than you".
All of that to say that Dhawan!Master always strikes me as awfully broken, behind his murderous glee : he is the first Master who truly seems not to care about his own life, to the point of craving death. At this point, his sanity is most likely gone, perhaps whitout any hope left for healing. Which is why the drawing itself seems so dark- with dark purple spirals in the background.
That being said, here are the three finished card ! I loved doing every single one of them, as different as they may be. Maybe I'll draw the Doctors, next.
the doctor’s tardis can see through the fourth wall. that’s why she got herself stuck as a police box, it was to save the bbc’s budget.
When she says she takes him where he needs to go its not because he needs it personally or because the people in those places and times need to be saved, but because she knows the show would be boring if she didn’t deliver him into exciting situations.
she also knows it's a 'children's show' and her translation circuit rejoiced when the censors finally let people say 'bloody' before the watershed. she's still waiting for 'fuck'.
thinking about how the hobbit was mentioned in one of bernice summerfield's audios, which means that the hobbit movies probably exist in the whoniverse, which means that radagast the brown was in one of the movies, and he was played by sylvester mccoy...
canon is fake but play in the space with me.
so, here's my question: how do sylvester mccoy and the doctor coexist? do they exist as separate but nearly identical entities, one being human and one being gallifreyan? or would sylvester mccoy canonically become the doctor for a hot minute, like his body got appropriated? or did the doctor subconsciously use sylvester mccoy as a blueprint? or does sylvester mccoy canonically play the doctor within the show itself? is every doctor actually an actor in canon?
even better yet: do people see the doctor and go, "sylvester mccoy??" has ace ever compared the two? do you think the doctor has met sylvester mccoy? i bet they have brunch together on saturdays.
the same question goes for literally any other doctor's actor who appears in whoniverse-canon media.
the difference between the doctor and the master is that the master is here to cause problems on purpose, while the doctor is here to cause problems by accident and they’re very sorry about it
I miss them.
