A random Black Sails thought, but something I’ve been thinking about for a while, is that Flint is pretty much ready to make friends with England after Thomas’s (supposed) death.  He’s not happy about it, but he’s ready to suck it up and do it.  His attitude becomes one of complete hostility to England after MIranda’s death.

I’m struck by this every time I watch the series because so often Tumblr casts her as the third wheel in the relationship and as a footnote in a story that is primarily about James and Thomas and James’ antihomophobic war on England.  Which isn’t to say that James and Thomas’s relationship isn’t important or that there isn’t an antihomophobic element to James’s war.  But you can acknowledge that without relegating Miranda, who is easily as important to James and the story as Thomas, to the margins.

THIS. This is why I try to add her to my stories. This is why I respect her. This is why Miranda matters.

Well, he also did it for Miranda. That shitty father talked smack about her, and that is what got him finally standing up and defending Thomas.

There's also the fact that Miranda feels responsible for Flint becoming Flint. She is the one who wanted him to kill Alfred Hamilton.

Let's not forget that Flint says in S3.3 that Miranda's death destroyed him. He was angry about Thomas's supposed death, but ruined over hers. He tells Peter Ashe right before he kills him that Miranda's wishes to see the city burned to the ground will come true.

Tldr: Flint loved them both. He's a bi man who dedicated his life to the Hamiltons, yo.

I have this whole concept that Miranda was in fact a believer in passing on knowledge to those who needed it most. She was compassionate like that. The guy was kind of like, almost dying. Maybe she had some remaining guilt for having Alfred Hamilton killed and she wanted to redeem what little hope she had left in getting the high rollers of British society (yes, even Richard Guthrie was one of those people) to see part of the ideology that Thomas had for a better world. But yeah... just a thought...
