My oh my. From ABC News Australia: "Facebook admits to scraping every Australian adult user's public photos and posts to train AI, with no opt-out option."

A summary:

"The company does not offer Australians an opt out option like it does in the EU, because it has not been required to do so under privacy law."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-11/facebook-scraping-photos-data-no-opt-out/104336170

BTW the ABC News website has links to Facebook, Instagram and X but no Fediverse profiles. So their posts are used to train #Llama

We are getting there, boys: Argentina will use AI to ‘predict future crimes’

They stopped using "predictive crime" methods in other parts of the world because it was making a mockery of the police departments with wrongful suggestions on the people in question for crimes they never did. If you haven't seen the movie "Minority Report" then I highly recommend it as it covers the problems of predictive crime in society.

Sorry to break the theme of the blog but a lot of people who post their incredible works here use Twitter so

Reblogging this for a second time because your art will also be used in AI training models, apparently.

Once again, US tech bros totally misinterpret how much your regular EU politician, or citizen, cares about their products:

Don't threat us with a good time, Sama.

Speaking to reporters after a talk in London, Altman said he had “many concerns” about the EU AI Act, which is currently being finalized by lawmakers. The terms of the Act have been expanded in recent months to include new obligations for makers of so-called “foundation models” — large-scale AI systems that power services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DALL-E. “The details really matter,” said Altman, according to a report from The Financial Times. “We will try to comply, but if we can’t comply we will cease operating.” A day later, Altman tried to temper his initial comments, saying OpenAI had productive conversations related to AI regulation in Europe and “of course, have no plans to leave.”

That rethink almost certainly followed some minion pointing out that his "cease operating" threat had produced this response:

Also, given that their only viable business model is to be a white-label LLM for other companies' products that want to add some "powered by AI" fancy selling point, the fact that the use of chatGPT would make the EU market closed to those 3rd party products and it would mean a death sentence to openAI, so... I'm not surprised he backtracked, hard.
