Thinking about Cho Yeong's journey in Alchemy of Souls is a bittersweet feeling.
I like fantasy stories in general because they give me this feeling that after a long journey, nothing is the same again. But the wounds along the way are there and at some point the characters will have to deal with them.
And I like to see that although part of the audience doesn't recognize it, Yeong is a character who has been dehumanized so many times in life, and that finding someone to be her safe haven, showing her weaknesses, selfishness and anger is what makes her more human.(she was made for us girls).
She didn't stop being strong just because she chose to follow another path, a path that wasn't imposed by perversity and trauma.
Now she is free to finally live as she wants, without manipulation. The sweet girl, the assassin, the master, the servant, the lady of a traditional family, the priestess are all part of the character's totality.
I love this character in all her entirety ♡

Yesss!!! You're so right!!!

I guess some people don't understand this at all, and it makes me think about the quote "The gentleness that comes not from the absence of violence but despite the abundance of it." that can represent cho yeong trajectory.

Yes, she's powerful and smart. Yes, she's capable of doing a ton shit of damage and chaos. And yes, she can protect herself, BUT after so long trying to survive, she just... doesn't need to rely only on herself anymore. She can be soft and be just cho yeong, because she has someone that loves her and wants (and can) protect her.

Cho Yeong doesn't need to use her hands for violence, not because she's weak, but because after years, she finally can choose not to.

People are unable to understand that Cho Yeong's journey was about how she lost absolutely everything, even herself. We saw her fight like an assassin and it was WOW, but then we were introduced to a character who was kidnapped from her life, dehumanized and ruined by several people.

She had her journey without powers to discover a different path than what she knew. Yeong only knew her own pain, loneliness and the feeling of revenge, and then she knew that she could be protected and loved.

She is not weak because she chose the path where her powers would not be tainted by her suffering, like the powers of a mage. Divine powers bring her the comfort of being able to defend herself and protect those she loves, without the need to stain her hands with blood.

It's selfish that anyone would want Cho Yeong to pick up a sword again and regress to her former self after she's achieved everything she could ever want.

Cho Yeong/Naksu/Mudeok/Jin Bu-yeon or whatever you want to call her (I hope Cho Yeong) has been fighting her whole life. Let her be happy, without being surrounded by the violence of battle.

cho yeong's last memory as mudeok is stabbing the person she loved, the first person who loved her and looking at her hands in devastating realization that killing is all she can do — and jang uk made sure in his last breath to hold her bloodied hand to say it's okay and she could never truly hurt him and i love you

Without you, time seems to drag on. Without you, comic books aren't fun. Without you, the playground is quiet, too. Without you, every day feels bland. It's like eating unseasoned soup or dumplings without soy sauce. Without you, it's like not drinking banana milk after going to the bathhouse. So I was wondering... do you wanna go drink banana milk with me?
