This is kind of a make your own story kind of video, but I like to think that Arthur, Gwen and his round table finally rise again and join Merlin who has been waiting all this time to return home, meanwhile Morgana and Mordred are plotting their own destinies (with the story of Camelot intertwined).

This was also a request by a dear teammate of mine (who also requested a few of these scenes that I hope I've done justice to!) and it was an absolute blast to make (even though it was my first au video I've made!)

Merlin Reincarnation AU:  Arthur had been born of a very special magic.  But it only awakened in his next life - when he found an old friend he thought he’d lost forever.

My fic ideas

So I have a lot of ideas for stories I want to write. I haven’t made much progress in actually writing them, but I have them. I’m making this post because sometimes talking about my ideas, or even just telling other people about them, helps my brain.

Most of them are time travel stories, and most of them are in the Star Wars fandom. I’m gonna throw them into categories here in the order I’m going to talk about them: The two that are not Star Wars, then the time travel set, then the death fic set, then the few other au’s I’ve been thinking about lately.

There’s one Harry Potter time travel idea I had, where Remus goes back in time to when he was a kid. Well, really two ideas, because he could go back and wake up in his younger body, or he could go back in his older body and there would be two Remus’s running around. Both ideas are fun. I have a couple of pages of the first option. I like this idea because in most of the time travel HP fics I’ve read, it’s Harry who goes back in time, or one of his peers. I wanted one of the Marauders or someone from that generation to go back. Also, I really want to save Peter. Lots of people have sent characters back in time to try and save Tom as a kid, but in so many fics when Harry or someone goes back in time to the Marauders’ time period they are really mean or rude to Peter and exclude him all the time, even if he’s only like twelve. And seriously, he can’t have been evil his whole life. At some point, he was just a kid who was scared and wanted to feel protected, wanted to fit in. And I want to explore the friendship Remus had with him. Also, Remus is one of my faves.

There’s also a Merlin fic I started a couple of years ago, which is on hold because I don’t know where to go with it. It’s a Merlin/Morgana one, because I see a lot of potential in that fic. Basically, when Morgana first starts having dreams and realizes she has magic, and she goes to see Gaius and finds Merlin and tells him, instead of not saying anything like Gaius told him to he tells her she’s right, she has magic, and she’s not insane, and he knows she’s going to be fine because he has magic too. And then he starts teaching her magic, keeping it a secret from Gaius, and navigating the complications this adds to all their relationships and still trying to protect Arthur. I don’t know where the plot is going in the long term, but in the short term I got stuck because Morgana insisted that now she knew about Merlin’s magic and she wasn’t distracted trying to find the Druids to tell her about what was happening to her, she’d want to save all the people Uther arrested. And she convinced Merlin (and me) to go along with her. And now I have to figure out how they’re going to pull it off without getting caught.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure the rest are Star Wars, and about all of those are Obi-Wan-centric. Also, most of them are time travel. I’m a sucker for time travel stories. Lessee, I already started the one where Obi goes back in time as a cat, but it sort of fizzled out. That one’s mostly crack, but kind of sort of almost serious? After Anakin joins the force Obi decides it’s time to move on, and is offered some vaguely worded choices and somehow ends up on some random planet in the past (sometime in the first few years after Xanatos fell), and he’s a cat. Qui-Gon shows up, Ben follows him home (we call him Ben in this so as not to confuse with younger Obi-Wan when he shows up), and then proceeds to follow him everywhere, make sure he doesn’t fuck everything up, and occasionally goes on solo missions in the bowels of Coruscant. In the lower levels people start carrying cat talismans, and he becomes a sort of local deity or guardian spirit to them. Also I decided to add in a character based on @hollyoakhill​‘s lovely drawings of Maggie Smith as a Jedi, and then decided immediately that she and Ben are platonic soulmates, for some reason. Qui-Gon tries not to be jealous.

I also wanna do one where Obi-Wan goes back to his own body just before the start of the Clone Wars, and he gets to try and help Anakin with his mom, subvert Dooku, if possible, save the clones or at least get them more rights, and prevent the war. Because he knows that there was no point to the war except to wear down the Jedi and give Palpatine more power, and he refuses to fight in a pointless war where both sides are led by the sith.

then there’s one where Obi goes back to when Anakin’s a kid and he himself is still a padawan, but he’s still a force ghost, and so he hangs around on Tatooine and gives Anakin tips and advice and teaches him a bit, and then tells him things all along to give him perspective and help him understand people better, and to not be misled by ppl (cough, Palpatine, cough). Also he might give Qui-Gon an occasional prod or whisper in the Force

then there’s the idea of him going back to his own body when he was a child, but instead of replacing his younger self, he becomes the strange voice in his younger self’s head, and poor young Obi-Wan has to try and hide it so ppl don’t think he’s crazy, but he thinks he’s crazy, and they have lots of arguments/debates inside their head and I don’t know where this idea is going but it seems like it would be fun

one where Obi bodily goes back and is dropped on Naboo, but he has a separate body and he helps out Qui-Gon and his other self to not get killed by the Sith, and maybe helps uncover the Sith or something. Not sure how old I want him to be when he goes back, do I want him ignorant of order 66 or for it to happen after? Dunno, but doubling is fun and Qui and Padawan Obi interacting with General Kenobi is always a fun idea.

then more recently I had a couple of ideas that were not time travel. there’s a few modern aus, and quite a few deathfic ideas. I kind of want to write a story or two where Obi-Wan dies. Where he legitimately, irrevocably, permanently dies and he and everyone around him have to deal with the fact that he is dying. There’s an idea for a short one where something goes wrong with his starfighter and he’s too far from help and all he can do is call Anakin and they have a conversation while he’s dying, and Anakin is of course in denial at first but it’s inevitable and Obi-Wan has THINGS he needs to say. This one would take place during the war.

Then there’s the one where he dies on a mission while Anakin is still a Padawan and fairly young, like maybe 15 or so, and this one is more longer, taking place over a space of time between a week, a few weeks, and a few months. Obi is somehow injured in a jungle or forest, and they’re stranded without communication or help, and without the proper medical supplies Obi-Wan’s wound gets infected or something and he dies, slowly. And he has force visions while he’s delirious, most of which he doesn’t remember, but the Force does let him know that he’s dying, that help is coming, but he’ll be gone before they get there. So he has to impart what last wisdom he can to Anakin, and try to prepare him for losing his master too soon because it’s not fair to Anakin but he is going to have to deal with it and not break.

There’s the really heartbreaking one where Qui-Gon lives, but Obi-Wan has some kind of terminal illness and is dying. Actually this could be two or three - I was thinking of a Modern AU where Obi-Wan has some kind of earth disease, and a SW universe one where Padawan Obi gets dosed with some Sith poison which they can beat off, but which keeps coming back over the years, and each time it gets worse because it learns how to counteract their countermeasures, until it eventually can’t be beat and/or it has caused too much damage to him and he dies. Anyway, with either of these, there’s lots of angst and Obi-Wan coming to terms with his impending death, and while he’s doing that he’s also doing everything he can to make sure his loved ones accept his impending death, and to make sure they will be okay without him. Because he is a self-sacrificing little shit, of course that would be his priority.

This next one Obi-Wan doesn’t die, but Padmé and Anakin do. It’s a modern AU idea where Obi-Wan’s best friends, the young Skywalker couple, die suddenly in some kind of accident, and they leave him with the custody of two newborns because he was named Godfather and Padmé survived long enough from the accident to give birth. The entire fic is just him grieving, and trying to deal with caring for two babies while also carrying on doing his job. Also I have a lot of backstory here, but not a lot of plot. He runs a gardening/landscaping service in this one, which he inherited from Qui-Gon, his adopted father, who died soon after he met Ani and Padmé. Qui-Gon and he had been doing some work for Padmé’s parents, and Ani’s mom had been running a housecleaning service at the time, so they all met and became friends despite their disparate ages and after Qui-Gon died suddenly of a stroke or something like that Obi-Wan was sort of taken in by Ani’s mom even though he was mostly independent, and the three of them were inseparable ever since. Oh, and Ani was a mechanic. I’ve already decided that there will be no romance in this fic, even if adding another person to help him with the babies would make things easier. If there are any romantic overtones, it’s past tense pining, because Obi was in love with both Ani and Padmé but never said anything because they had each other and didn’t need him. Bail is going to be in it, and probably Satine and even Palpatine (all of them are people whose yards he works on), and Beru and Owen might show up - Beru might be a wetnurse for the babies since their mother died when they were born and they were born early and he wants them to have the benefits of breastfeeding instead of formula, at least for the first few months. Also, Owen is his brother and he might be panicking and calling the last person he has because he doesn’t know what to do. (in this one they’re both orphans but Obi was adopted by Qui-Gon when he was about 13 and Owen was adopted by Cliegg when he was like 7. Owen changed his last name, Obi didn’t. This one needs more characters and a plot that doesn’t include romance or too much mortal peril or anything, it’s actually pretty tame in that department, but I have so many details you see?

Then there’s the modern AU where Luke and Leia both grow up with their parents (Padmé works with the Peace Corps and the twins think their father is a truck driver. he’s not) and Luke is spending the summer with his aunt and uncle, with whom he’s never interacted much, on their farm (Leia is interning this summer with the Organas) and there are complications that are not explained which mean their stays are extended into the school term, and Luke has to go to the local high school in this small town. And there’s this weird teacher there who is eccentric but kind of cool (It’s Obi-Wan, he’s retired from the supercool and dangerous job Anakin still does, and now he’s some kind of teacher - history, government, music, I dunno. Or maybe he’s a martial arts instructor. He’s also estranged from both Anakin and his brother, even though he lives in the same town as Owen.) Then Threepio and Artoo show up. They’re both human here, obviously. Threepio is Cecil and he is the Skywalkers’ butler and also a former spy, like he knows lots of languages and is good with codes and stuff. Artoo is Arthur and he’s a mechanic and also an old family friend, and the two of them are platonic life partners, like they’re in love but they’re asexual. Anyway Cecil and Arthur show up at the farm, and they say it’s just for a visit and to check up on Luke, but they have a coded message for Obi-Wan which they got from Anakin. Anakin’s in trouble, and even though Obi is retired and hasn’t talked to Anakin in years of course he drops everything to help him. And Luke overhears some of this, and doesn’t quite know what’s going on, but he sort of runs away to follow him. and Cecil and Artoo follow Luke to make sure he doesn’t get himself killed. I’m not sure what Padmé’s doing here, maybe she’s on a Peace Corps mission, maybe she’s caught up in whatever Anakin is stuck in. Leia probably gets tangled up in it, too. That’s all I’ve got for that one but it’s a really intriguing idea and I really like it.

Then there’s this last one I started writing yesterday which is really self-indulgent and sort of crack. it is the one ‘In which the Author, who is tired of Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s horseshit, takes the both of them from Mustafar and dumps them tied up in a cave somewhere, and forces them to talk out their issues with the threat of mortal peril.’ I like this one. It’s kind of angsty, because Mustafar, but they’re both tied up and the Author gets to be in it as a powerful reverberating voice, and a power that can’t be overruled and gets to do things ‘because I said so.’ It’s such fun.
