Patty is a historian.

Okay, everyone remembers the uproar over the whole “You all have your science, but I know the city” line, but it quickly became apparent in the movie that the line was…very poorly interpreted out of context.

Because when Patty says she “knows the city” she doesn’t mean “I’ve lived my life on the streets, so I’m savvy about urban life,” she means “If there is a plaque in front of a building, I have read it. If there is a pamphlet that they have put up, I’ve taken it into my booth and studied it fold to fold. If a new building goes up, I remember what was there before it. If they wrote a book on this place, I’ve read it. If this structure has any history whatsoever, I know about it.”

She means “I know the city“ because she is a freaking historian. She’s brimming with useful information that no one ever needs to know, because she collects facts. No, she’s not into science, but I feel like she could talk for hours about how this bakery used to be a butchery but was closed down because of an influx of veganism, or how all the books from this library were moved to a bigger one down the street to make room for a Starbucks, or that the collapse of this building when a car crashed into a critical support pillar may have killed the woman who is haunting intersections to this day.

Anyway. I think that’s all I have to say but I loved that? I related?
