As much as I love EPIC The Musical and the songs are amazing and had some nice vibes despite the changes I was disappointed at Circe Saga change
Circe in the original was a powerful woman who had specific criteria for her love life (yeah even the threat fetish) which she chose to act upon and she loved Odysseus for his wit and guts. In this version she acts out of desperation to save her nymphs so she sells herself to him.
In the original it was Odysseus the one who had to sell himself to her for the sakes of his men (similarly as how Epic the musical had him throw Astyanax off the wall even if that was not part of the original Odyssey but of later versions, because of gods' will).
Odysseus had to sell himself to save his men. In here Circe is willing to sell herself to save her nymphs. That takes a lot of power off her.
I think that in order for him to promote loyalty (Odysseus) and kindness (Circe) he discarded a powerful couple dynamic as well as the strength of a character. It might work for some sure. Just not to me.
a very succinct summary of the fully incoherent literary analysis I've been attempting to pull out my ears for the past three days
