Sometimes you have an idea at 3:00 in the morning and it won't leave you alone until you do something about it so
Do you ever lie awake wondering how the heck Gimli knows what a nervous system is
Clearly dwarves have medical knowledge far more advanced than that of the other races.
His Majesty Dr. Gimli, son of Gloin, Neurosurgeon, M.D.
gimli trying to explain his studies to legolas, a flat-earther
#*scroll down* #*remember that middle earth is canonically flat for elves and round for everyone else* #*scroll back up & smash that reblog button"
tired: legolas took gimli to valinor with him because they were bffs/in love/etc.
wired: legolas took gimli to valinor to prove the world was flat after arguing with him about it for decades
Sorry it’s what to elves
So, in Tolkein lore, the world was originally flat, with most of the land in the middle (hence Middle Earth). But the Numenorians (men who were rewarded with their own Atlantis-equivalent island for service in the first big war against Melkor, but eventually Power Corrupts etc) tried to invade the uttermost west which was basically Elf Heaven. To put an end to that sort of thing, the creator of the world Bent The World and made it a sphere…but left elves able to treat it like a flat disk. So elves can sail west and reach Elf Heaven, but a man or dwarf or hobbit who sails west will eventually wrap around to the east coast of Middle Earth.
This is why Legolas can see for such great, almost impossible distances. The Earth does not curve for him.
Legolas said fuck the horizon

lord of the rings: a summary
Day 1/31 Ring
Does Gandalf ….. live anywhere??? Radagast is shown to live in a house in the woods, Saruman lives in his giant tower, but does Gandalf live anywhere when he’s not out and about causing or otherwise being involved every dramatic thing happening in Middle Earth???
Does he stay in Imladris for months of the year??? Does he have a beach house somewhere??
Or is Gandalf just eternally a couch surfing 98 year old backpacking across Arda.
talk shit about frodo baggins and ur getting ur ass beat periodt
The Fellowship & Bilbo + 19th Century Character Trope Generator
bonus Sam/Frodo
Sorry, not sorry.
I pretend to be complex and clever but in reality, nothing has ever made me laugh harder than those bad Chinese subtitles from the bootleg Lord of the Rings DVDs. Tears streaming down my face, core aching, slowly suffocating because I’m laughing too hard.
also (because one can never have too many of these)
and my personal favorite:
I somehow forgot to add my own favorite, which is this one:
I also appreciate the ones that really change the tone and suggest that the characters openly loathe each other…
and this one, which gently encourages self-care:
listen you guys forgot some important ones
ya’ll forgot the best one
I CAN’T BREATHE
this is a treasure that cannot be buried
Had to reblog again because I spent hours searching for this and I finally found it.

Why the fuck did Gandalf not tell the fellowship there was a Balrog in the Mines of Moria? Like he’s not the DM he doesn’t have to keep all the horrors that live in the deep dark a secret from the party.
Pretty sure Frodo would have kept going over the mountain if he’d had all the information.
Okay, the actual in-universe answer to this (if I’m remembering properly) is that Gandalf, being an angelic-being (essentially) isn’t allowed to use all of his knowledge or power while on the mortal realm in his form.
Changing from the Gray to the White allowed him to use more of his powers and knowledge but when he was that Gandalf he wasn’t really allowed to say much, especially as the Balgrog is a fallen member of his own species and his own realm was one of the knowledges he wasn’t allowed to talk about.
So he just drops cryptic comments about how there are foul things in the dark in the hopes people will heed his cryptic comments…..
Fuck he is a DM.
Gandalf was always a DM self-insert NPC with a group of PCs. :)
aragorn and legolas but theyre tired camp counselors
so what do you think about Elrond? I'm sorry for just coming out of the blue, but you have the most amazing opinions and writings about LOTR and I wanted to ask about my favourite character
I think I’ve been staring at this gif all day and feeling my heart shred in my chest is what I think
tagses:
#I try not to think too hard about elrond because everything about elrond is sad #his homeland was destroyed #he and his brother were taken captive #he fought for eregion and watched all his efforts be in vain when eregion was destroyed #his commander and king is slain by the dark lord #his brother chooses mortality #his wife is assaulted by orcs and falls to grief; journeying into the west and leaving him and their children behind #and yet his is the last homely house #open to all who require a stead–the chieftans of the dunedain; hobbits; dwarves #that strikes me as the gesture of a profoundly lonely man; a rootless man #a man who knows the worth of home; who opens himself to guests because his family has trickled through his fingers #no one listens to him and everyone dies #…I told you everything about elrond is sad
