Whumpril 2023 - Day 20 | “Where am I?”
Pairing: none, reader gender neutral
Warnings: none, just canontypical stuff
The sun was burning down and yet you shivered. Not because you were cold but because you were scared. It had been hours since the guys who had robbed your carriage and driven away all the horses had left. At least they had not done anything worse. First you had tried to walk the rest of the way but not even knowing where you were you had little to no chances to find the town you were headed. And the fact that you had no water didn’t make things better, in contrary. This was why you finally had to stop and decided to wait for help. You probably had fallen asleep because suddenly it was dark and you felt a hand on your shoulder.
“I… what happened? Who are you?” you tried to sit up but the hand stopped you
“Careful. Don’t know what happened but you seem to have been lying here a while. I’m Ben and who are you?”
“(Y/N)” you muttered and this time he helped you to sit. Slowly you rubbed your hurting shoulder
“Guess so” gratefully you accepted the flagon and drank a few sips. “Thank you” you looked around but couldn’t see much except for the men near you.
“You remember what happened now, (Y/N)?”
“I… I think I was robbed. Yes, there were a couple of bandits, they robbed the carriage, took everything I had and left me here. I tried to walk but didn’t get far”
“Yeah” Ben said “Saw your carriage about four miles back”
“Oh” you didn’t know what else to say “I wanted to get to town. But… I think I lost my way. I just…” you buried your face in your hands and wanted to cry. “Where am I?”
“A good thirteen miles from Silver City, New Mexico”
“Ah that’s where I was headed”
“Huh?” he pointed to the left “It’s that way, you probably would’ve ended up in Arizona that way”
“Oh” you tried to get up and in the direction he pointed
“No way. Not now. Stay with us for the night and tomorrow I can bring you there”
“Because it’s night. And if you’re not used to it you don’t want to be out there riding or even walking at that time” it was only now that something clicked in your mind. The men in front of you probably were outlaws too that they were out at that time. After all, they didn’t look like cowboys and didn’t have cows with them either. Gasping in shock, you tried to scurry away but fell over your own feet and landed back on your ass. “Easy there”
“You’re outlaws!” you breathed “Yeah… but we’re not gonna hurt you, promise. I don’t hurt innocents okay? Just relax and get some sleep. You’re safe with us” somehow you didn’t know if you should trust them but you didn’t have much of a choice if you didn’t want to be all alone out there. Which wasn’t something you wanted. And besides you already had lost all of value you owned, so there was not much they could still do to you, was there?
