Look, I knew it was coming, but it still surprised me and it still (after some emotions percolating) hit me like a ton of bricks. Is it different from the campaign? Sure! Did it break my heart into tiny jagged pieces to hear Grog going from ":D" to the softest, smallest, most scared voice we've ever heard him use (ie. once, when Pike was hurt)? 100%! Because the thing about Grog is that he loves his gnomes, a LOT, and he thinks they're awesome and badass and his best buddies... and sometimes he forgets that they also can be very squishy.

Wake up, Scanlan. Don't break your best friend's heart more than it already is.

I totally blame him for the huge soft spot I have for all these characters. Even the ones whose story I barely started watching (and the ones whose stories actually have endings and broke my heart). And I can't wait to meet the next one :o)

I had a work thing today, the kind with conferences and meetings and long minutes where you listen to people and don't know what to do with your hands. (also, snacks and lunch breaks!) So I started doodling with my pencils and ended up taking my brush markers out for a spin.

Here's a Vex in the wild (god I wish I could draw actual trees), which turned out good, kinda! I was surprised! I don't know why she's my go-to to draw when I have work things and the itch to draw, but I'm not complaining :o)

Also, soft Pikelan hair braiding post-campaign ^^ I originally intended for both gnomes to be topless and then remembered Tumblr's stances on female-presenting nips, so that was nixed and I gave Pike a kind-of-corset-kind-of-bra instead. Gotta have breast and back support to wear that plate armour! (and YES she's thicker and has more muscles than Scanlan. I tried, anyway. Again, plate armour. Plus she's a monstah 💜)

I finished my rewatch/relisten of the Vox Machina campaign in mid-December (although I recently re-embarked on the second half of the Chroma Conclave arc hoping season 3 of TLVOM will be announced (released?? 🤞) by the time I reach "A Bard's Lament"). Predictably, I bawled, AGAIN, but by then I'd already been scribbling and sketching ideas for this for... a couple of weeks? Hence the little WIP preview last month.

I'll never shut up about this moment. It's just as beautiful as it's heartbreaking, in- and off-game, especially taking into account all the context of characters/people involved.

Also, bonus, because after I finished sketching that 6th frame I thought a hug was needed.

I’m between episodes 77 and 78 (on Talks) of my re/watch of Vox Machina and uh. um. Scanlan is giving me ~vibes. You know,

I’m both looking forward and not looking forward to That Part™, but in the meantime lemme just… Draw the boy in a Hawaiian shirt and pink sunglasses and a sliiiightly unhinged look. Also drinking a sex on the beach* because come on.

As I mentioned before I watched bits and pieces of the 1st campaign of Critical Role before going back to the beginning and watching/listening to seriously (I’m now starting episode 74!), but one thing that struck me was the character growth for all these characters?? So good. And these two… oh, these two. I started thinking I wanted them together any way, romantic or platonic (about… 6% of my ships are romantic?), but as time goes by I just love this ship, where it started and where it ends up in the epilogue. Plus… y’now, a couple of slightly bruised souls finding solace in each other 💜

I was watching a VM fanvid about the twins (as one does) and once I finished making dumb noises I went back and took a bunch of screencaps “for later”. “Later” turned out to be the last couple of weeks at work on various breaks - I doodled and then inked with markers on an A4 page (I think the American equivalent is “letter”? anyway). And then added the screencaps, because why not.

(Much as I love the TLOVM version of Scanlan and his grey/blue (?) eyes, I tend to see the stream version with brown eyes, so ^^)

*sigh* This guy. I was all set to give my entire heart to the whole main cast when I really discovered Vox Machina last year, because honestly!? They’re all so good?? And then this little shit had the audacity to hit all my favourite tropes (like “cheerful cocky / sneaky bastards who love [a few select] people and steal things” which, yeah, is an actual tag of mine, but also MUSIC, which is a big characterisation kink of mine) and get beat up and covered in blood but still defiant, because he did come here to make an absolute nuisance of himself but also fuck that other guy?? (Plus all the layers of season 2 of TLVOM and what I’m listening to of campaign 1!? HOW VERY DARE.)

So yeah, I like this guy a lot, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be mad about it :D
