We can see how confused and thoughtful Hannibal is at this moment. He lied to himself, that Will hadn't changed him, that he hadn't become so important. But going back, we remember the actions of Hannibal, which, to some extent, were not characteristic of him. He was never that patient with people, he literally set Will up just so he wouldn't have to kill him (because Will was so close to solving the Chesapeake Ripper).

However, realizing that Will has changed him, Hannibal gets angry and, instead of agree with this fact, gets rid of Abigail in order to make Will hurt more than he was from the betrayal.

A few of my thoughts and theories about this scene. I tried to add very subtle, but telling, flashy moments from the series.

Any other writers have characters who don't have one story, but who are instead still looking for their setting/story, so you write variations of them until they find the one that feels 'right'???

i wrote this post almost 8 years ago, in may of 2017. in 2018 a long, aggressive harassment campaign run by the exact sorts of people the reblog was about got this account terminated a few months before the nsfw ban. it took me a while to come back to tumblr and once i did, it took me even longer to openly post about profic stuff like this again. i never in a million years expected to see some old post of mine cross my dash today with almost 70k notes; as i recall, it had a few hundred when this account still existed.

i’m not nearly as confrontational anymore, but if there’s one thing that’s still true, it’s that i stand by everything i said. and i’m glad i said it. scrolling through the notes, i found some old comments disparaging me or this message, but what was important to me was all the comments that said something to the effect of “i needed to hear this”.

i want more people to hear this, really. i want people to know that you can do whatever makes you happy in your fictional works. those characters aren’t people, and you can’t meaningfully hurt them. things you explore fictionally don’t mean you condone or desire them irl. “bad” or cliche writing doesn’t somehow hurt other people, and really, it doesn’t hurt you either. self-indulgence in art is not a crime.

please create what brings you joy. block people who upset or attack you. avoid what you dislike and uplift what you enjoy. fandom is only as serious as you make it, but it’s not activism, and it’s not a test of morals either.

"penetrate" is not the most intimate thing you can do to someone or even in the top five. a recent survey actually ranked it at #74, far below fan favorites like tend wounds (#8) and betray (#3)

Also if you regularly work with kids/teens I cannot stress how important it is that you know someone who's like really into lame emo junk. There was a girl my dad was working with who just flat out refused to talk to adults or anyone at all and one day I was there and I saw her wearing a homemade bracelet that had beads that said YLDNDAHFHHACYCSYCDAYDKK and since I was also once a 14 year old making niche homemade mcr merch I was like "oh my god you like dnd Audrey Hepburn Fangoria Harry Houdini and croquet you cant swim you can't dance and you dont know karate!!!" and she looked at me like I'd said literal magic words and now we talk about music all the time

If you're working with troubled kids you need several people trained in child psychology with godlike levels of patience and at least one person who knows five nights at freddys lore front to back

My coworkers wonder why so many "weird" kids keep coming to the after school program to just visit and talk for a second and I get a flashback to a few years ago when I was walking by and one kid was playing a song. I stopped still for a second and then said "It's crazy that the Powerpuff girls and Gorillaz have some shared universe." And for the past 4 years different ones won't leave me alone

For 2025 I want to give you all the best advice I took to heart last year which is simply “do it for the plot” bc doing anything good or bad is better than doing nothing at all and at the end of the day you’ll have a fun little story to tell and it will either be “omg do you want to hear about this crazy thing that happened that was awful” or “omg I gotta tell you about this awesome thing that happened” but like either way it’s good for the plot! Even if it’s scary or you don’t know if it will work out or not, at least it gives you things to look back on at the end of the year! You’ll learn more about yourself! Go forth and by any and all means possible: do it for the plot besties :)
