I found this post in the Spop critical tags and I'd like to give my two cents about it. As always DO NOT HARASS THE OP! And if they happen to find this post, they can consider this my reply (warning long post/tw teen sexualization)

What happened is that fans of the og She-ra didn't like the new character designs (can't totally blame them) and made rude comments about She-ra's look. How does that disprove the point made by criticals about the sexualization of teenagers from the Spop crew and Spop fandom?

The fans of the og She-ra didn't ask to make the characters teens and since they find the designs ugly, I don't think they're the ones who constantly sexualize them. The Spop fandom is to blame for this, and some of them are the same people who hate the og designs because they're considered too sexy. Completely ignoring that at least those characters are adults and it wasn't just the girls who had unpractical clothes. He-man, Hordak and Skeletor didn't wear pants, but I've yet to see anyone saying that's offensive.

(Side note but I hate when someone says og She-ra had massive boobs. Enough with the slut shaming already!)

We're just going to forget that Scorpia's uniform had a boob window and Perfuma was showing off her collarbone even back in season 1? Okay.

Look, the problem is not the outfits being revealing or not, it's the creepy way some fans talk about them, how they make hundreds of posts about Catra's boob window, her body and call her a milf. Not even in the first seasons, while the main cast was underage, they were safe from being sexualized.

Moving on. . .

No one in the critical community is mad at Spop for having teenagers questioning their sexualities. We're more worried about people calling homoerotic scenes where one character is being abused by another.

Romatize/Sexualize abuse =/= shipping fictional teenagers

I kinda agree with this part, but not completely. Sure, the story works well with a cast of teenagers, but I think it could have worked even if they were a bit older. It's not like people automatically get over their trauma when they turn 18. Catra, Adora and Glimmer would still have faced a war and dealt with a terrible childhood if they were in their early twenties.

I don't have a problem with Nate making the characters younger in the reboot. Maybe he did so because he thought young viewers would relate better to them or he wanted to explore trauma in teenage years, it doesn't matter. What matters is that we all agree it's not okay to treat a show for kids like an hentai.

I would be okay with Catra dating anybody else but Adora IF Catra wasn't such a jerk with everyone around her.

Did she have to be so hostile towards Lonnie all their lives just because one time Lonnie was too friendly with Adora?

Did she have to abuse Scorpia after they came back from the Crimson Waste?

Did she have to be so antagonistic towards Glimmer even after her mom went missing because of her choices?

While I don't hate Scorptra or Glitra, I can't see Catra dating neither of them. Maybe it's just me, but the "what they could have been" version of those ships is better than the canon version.

Im still so confuse how the alternative dimension Catra creates work, but i have a theory

I think that this dimension reflects your deepest desires, like Adora deep down still wishes she was happy in the Horde with Catra like some sort of nostalgia, Catra wanted to be loved inside the Horde and for Adora never to leave, Glimmer, Angela and Mikha wanted to live peacefully with her family, Bow wanted to be everything his fathers wanted of him even if he would be unhappy and Scorpia wanted to be like Catra tells her to be, respecting personal space and all that

I think that's kinda explains why everything is so weird in this dimension, because if it was how Catra wanted everything to be then why is Glimmer living a happy nice life with her parents? Idk, i think that just makes a bit of sense

If that's how you interpret the episode that's totally fine 👍

I think the portal created a reality where the characters (exept for one) got to live an easier life, but not what they really wanted. Let me explain.

While Catra got everything she ever wanted, from Shadow Weaver's unconditional love to Adora being her friend again, for the others it wasn't the same.

Adora told Catra "As much as I wish that things could be easy the way they used to be, there's no going back" Adora's life in the Horde wasn't good, but at least back then she knew what she was doing, she didn't have the weight of the world on her shoulders and she didn't have to fight her best friend to almost death. But was returning to the Horde what Adora really wanted? I think not. I think what Adora really wanted was to be with Catra, Glimmer and Bow and enjoy her life without risking to lose it all for a heroic destiny.

Bow wanted his dads to be proud of him because he's a good son, but deep down what he wanted was the same things all teenagers want: for his patents to accept him for who he was, a great archer who loves to wear crop tops and spends his time with his princesses friends instead of studying history.

You forgot about Entrapta in your ask. In the fake reality Entrapta was back at Dryl, surrounded by her robots. That's what Entrapta wanted because it made her feel safe, because she knew those robots wouldn't have abbandoned her. But Entrapta actually wanted real friends she could trust, that's why she built robots that look like Hordak and Scorpia.

It's like in season 4, when Entrapta didn't want to leave Beast Island because she was tired of trying to understand friendship. It was easier for her to give up and staying in that place, even if it was killing her.

Glimmer seems to have a perfect life because she has both her parents, but the Horde is still a threat to their people. So. . . Maybe she thinks fighting the Horde would be easier if Micah and Angella were with her?

I really doubt that Scorpia's dream life is just her respecting people's personal space. I think that was another aspect of Catra's perfect reality. What Scorpia wanted was to be friends with Catra and live in the Crimson Waste with her, but since that's not what Catra wanted the portal just forced her back in the Horde.

That's a very good summary of Catradora if you think about it

Hey, thank you for the ask but please don't send me fanarts that belong to others, not even screenshots of them. If you want to talk about an art you saw, describe it. I want to avoid "stealing" people's arts if they don't want them to be reposted or risk for the artist to be harrassed.

With that being said. . . It's a relief Catra didn't act like that. That's one of the only two c//a scenes in season 5 that I actually like. If Catra was written in the same way during the entirety of the last season, I would agree that she changed (still not enough to date her victim/sister).

No because they really think if Adora allowed Catra to go with her to find the sword, she'd have switched sides in the first episode??? 😭

May I remind y'all that Adora had no idea she'd have been captured by Glimmer and Bow? It's not like Adora can see the future and knew she was going to become She-ra, meet a princess and attend a party for the first time in her life. Adora WAS trying to keep Catra out of trouble. Everything Catra did was a reason for Shadow Weaver to abuse her, so if she found out that Catra was with Adora when she left the Fright Zone, that woman would have blamed it on Catra.

But let's say that Adora asked Catra to go with her. What difference would have that made? Do they think that seeing the village before it got attacked would have convinced Catra to become a rebel? She knew all along the Horde was evil and she didn't care about hurting innocent people! Catra wanted to rule over the world with Adora and seeing her simphatize with their enemies and enjoy Glimmer and Bow's company would have made her furious.

It's always "Adora shouldn't/should have done this!" It's never "If Catra wanted to go with Adora, she would have done that in this scene".

I was wondering, do you watch like Marvel movies or something? Cause i think you would have some not so kind words to say about Wanda

Avatar

I know some things about Marvel and the MCU since it's like part of my studies 😂 but my best friend is the expert. She loves Marvel movies.

I don't know much about Wanda and I didn't watch her show on Disney+. Did she create a fake reality with her powers or something? Because I recall seeing a post that compared Wanda to Catra about the fake reality in season 3.

Can you please elaborate on the things that Wanda did? Now I'm curious.

Avatar

It's very interesting that when Glimmer and Adora had that fake argument in season 4, Glimmer said the same things that Catra told Adora during the show.

"Or what? Are you jealous because you're not Shadow Weaver's favorite anymore?" // "You just ran around playing the perfect hero!"

You'd think this was done on purpose, to make the audience understand once and for all that Catra was a toxic friend. But since Catra confirmed that she was always in love with Adora, this parallelism feels meaningless, because we're meant to believe that Catra was just being a big tsundere all along 🙃

Avatar

No, that's not- 😮‍💨

As always DO NOT HARASS THE OP

Okay. If Catra's only reason to stay with the Horde was Adora, why didn't she accept her invites to the Rebellion, huh? By that logic, once Adora left, Catra didn't have any reason to stay, but she did. She accepted to be a Force Captain, lead the Horde's army and hurted many innocent people.

That's because Catra wanted more. She wanted everyone's respect, she wanted to prove Shadow Weaver wrong and that she was better than Adora.

It's not that Catra wasn't a good reason for Adora to stay. It's that Catra's happiness is not more important than Adora's morals and the lives of hundreds of Etherians. Adora didn't just leave her for a better life, she left to do what was right and she explained that to Catra.

"In her mind, Adora left because Catra wasn't good enough for her to stay"

1. After Adora said multiple times why she left, either Catra is dumb or she didn't really care;

2. Given what kind of a friend Catra was, I wouldn't blame Adora for leaving if that's actually the reason why she did;

3. So conquering villages and killing everyone was just to prove Adora wrong? It's almost as if like Catra did it because she knew Adora would have blamed herself for the horrible things she did. Catra thought Adora loved to feel like a hero and helping the princesses was for her own ego.

That post is a serious misunderstanding of Catra's character and motivations.

i cannot stand that Nate made it so Adora suddenly realized she was gay when Catra was about to kiss her.

if you don't know what i'm talking about, on Twitter, someone asked Nate what Adora was thinking before the kiss happened and he replied with a GIF // image ( don't remember which one ) that had the caption "am i gay?" attached.

like, look, it's one thing to have a lesbian character originally believe they like or legitimately like a guy at one point ( Amity from TOH ). in fact, i feel like we need to have more characters like that, since, to this day, so many people in and out of the community think it's black and white when it comes to being queer to any extent.

BUT!

Adora has never had this occurrence. she's never shown interest in guys, fake or otherwise, and no one else in the show seems to have this supposed 'am i gay' realization, ever.

that, and, even if she did think she was straight at one point, you can't honestly tell me she continued to think that when she was openly attracted to THREE WOMEN aside from Catra.

this is just giving shipping material that isn't necessary and adding onto the 'Adora is a dumb lesbian jock' stereotype that the fandom loves to believe is simply canon.

so, if she's attracted to other women, she doesn't know it, but when it's Catra, she suddenly starts asking herself that?

i could maybe understand it if it was because Catra was about to kiss her, meanwhile she didn't have any of that with the other women, but we all know that isn't actually why.

I'm pretty sure that Dana confirmed the book character Amity drew herself with in season 1 was nonbinary.

I know this because I saw a post talking about them and that was a question I've had for a while.

About the "am I gay?" GIF that I've seen so many times in Pinterest, I think that was Nate being himself, not taking anything seriously and giving a silly answer to make the shippers happy.

It really doesn't make sense that Adora realized she's attracted to women only when Catra was about to kiss her. She has always showed interest in women, especially muscular ones, and come on. Don't tell me Adora didn't have some feelings for Glimmer as well!

But even if those were just crushes that didn't ring any bell to Adora, she spent season 5 nursing Catra, giving her heart eyes and even blushed when she saw her using her claws 💀

Ffs, before Catra confessed her feelings, Adora literally had a dream where they were married! What was the point of having those fake Catras trying to distract She-ra if Adora had no idea she liked her? Just to waste time?
