I just realized Seer Rowan greets Spite as Determination and Isabela introduces him like that in the hall of valor

And there are several points throughout the game where Varric and Solas and others point out Rook’s determination and how they don’t know when to quit. Determination is Rooks defining characteristic and maybe that’s the biggest reason why Spite like’s them so much, because he can see what he used to be mirrored within them

When it comes to spirits in the da series, I have to remind myself that it's not opposites. Whenever you see spirits twisted from their original purpose, it's not a 180°. Like with Justice. He became Vengeance, which is a theme that often walks hand in hand with justice. Or look to DAI when you rescue solas' friend. It's a wisdom spirit that was turned to pride. It's an easy transition. It goes from, heed my advice, to I'm smarter than you.

This is shown further with spite. Determination is huge with spite. Now days, you see it often, when people run out of motivation to carry on, often they will push forward just to spite something.

It's a theme I also plan on doing something with in my fics. It's so interesting. Watching the steady transformation one step at a time.

Hey seeing a lot of veilguard negative comments on my dash (its actually like my....whole dash atm) so I'm looking for new people to follow who are just as in love with the game as I am! Or at least who don't post a ton about disliking it. I don't mind some criticism, I have my own, but I feel like 75% of my dash is very critical and I'd very much like to bask in the game I'm enjoying so much, or at least even out that percentage. So please interact if you:

  • Actually like/don't mind Veilguard (bonus points if you love it)
  • Like/don't mind Solavellan
  • Like/don't mind elven lore
  • Love DA games in general and aren't posting Veilguard negativity

I do a decent amount of writing myself, and would love to support other fanfic writers as well. Like or reblog and I'll check you out ☺️

I'm giving the game a bit of time to get around before I start throwing around spoilers but ooooooh have I got a fanfiction in the works very excited.

i don't have a screenshot, but in the DATV artbook it says that davrin is in his early 30s! "He's an elf in his early thirties"

here's an excel with the rest of ages (of all DA companions, and most of DATV companions.. except for harding and neve at the moment).. and other stuff.

My goodness Cork! You're posting chapters faster than I can keep up! I think I'm still on 8! (It's going to be so amazing when I finally have time enough to read and just go through all of them real quick!) Hope you're making sure to leave time to take care of yourself <3

Thank you!! I hope you like it when you get time to read it all at once <3

Honestly, I'm a very anxious writer, which basically means I hate posting works in progress. It makes my brain go crazy with the need to keep going and keep working until it's done because somehow I always end up seeing my writing as a responsibility (I have issues, yes). My way of solving that particular problem is to never post anything until I'm actually fully done with the main plot (which is why I started posting Married to Winter only after I finished chapter 6 in my drafts, the rest of the chapters were only additional and thus didn't raise my anxiety).

That is to say, I've written Neon Green and Cold Blue in its entirety over the course of one week - back in September I think - before I ever posted the first chapter, so the unposted ones are just chilling in my drafts right now. Which is how I can stick to a schedule in the first place lol

It's also to say that I'm currently slowly working through writing yet another fic that is based off of my Rat Danny and The Guy Who Won't Die posts and is spiraling in some unknown direction :з

I am the exact opposite when it comes to posting fic oh goodness i'm terrible. I'll write out a few chapter before hand, telling myself I'll write it all before publishing and then i dont. I get too excited to share the story that I start posting chapters before I've finished the story and It results in many abandoned works, goodness me. Thankfully, I don't publish often lmao.

Thinking about publishing a new work right now actually. (Gonna get more chapters ready. And maybe try to finish it before posting? But I knowwww it's gonna be a 100,000-200,000 word work? And that is pushing my ability to be patient to the extreme.)(I think I have about 30,000 ready now) I don't know how you're managing to write your stuff in one week! I'm so impressed. And it's all so good. I'm very excited about these new works you're alluding to!

The secret ingredient to writing it in one week is hyperfixation, and I don't recommend it lol

In general, writing anything when my ADHD is on the riot (and it's constantly on the riot since the government here thinks meds are for the weak and neurodivergent people don't exist) is hard as fuck. I come up with a great plot, I outline the chapters, but then, boom, crash, lightning smash, brain not interested anymore, no write. I can't tell you how many ideas I've wasted due to this.

So, my writing style is basically coming up with a starting point, one or two very epic scenes I want to include, and those epic scenes generate enough dopamine juice for me to keep going, and then the approximate end point that should be achieved.

Sometimes shit gets mixed up on the way to the point of no return. For example, when I started writing Neon Green, I planned it not as much of a cyberpunk but more as a space adventure, with Tim (an AI android) and Danny (an eldritch space creature) stuck together on one spaceship, visiting different worlds together and working together to avoid a war between the human sector of space (Justice League) and the, well, the not-human (Amity Park). As you can see, the only thing that was left from that idea is Tim being an AI and some mild war vibes.

Warning, unsolicited advice/sharing ramble coming!

That's exactly how i work too! Unmedicated rampant ADHD over here too. I have so many folders of different version of the same story premise. I probably have over half a million words in different versions of the novel I want to write scatter about in different docs. Some doc have three words. Others have over 100,000. It's bad. It's so bad. And then to motivate myself, I'll try and draw something. And that goes about the same way. I either finish it before the fixation wanes, or its abandoned forever. The problem with my writing is I have a tendency to do long stories, so the fixation never lasts long enough to get through it all. : (

As for what I'm working on now! It's Dragon Age fanfic. I dropped it a long time ago but the recent game release has revitalized my interest and I'm redoing what I have written a little bit to add more to the plot. And the game series has so much lore that it's a given one of my fics are going to be just as convoluted lmao.

The game series is four long now, with the most recent game being published on Halloween after a ten year gap. The fic starts with the events of the third game and includes stuff from the first, second, and fourth installments as well. It's super interesting stuff. I don't know if you're a dragon age fan or not, so I don't want to spoil anything if you are. But that just means the fic is....complicated.

Basically, your main character spends the game repairing a world ending event involving magic, demons, spirits, and a magical disease called the blight. And the fic follows that, but it's time travel premise. So they're shunted back to the beginning to do it all again with scrambled memories. And the heroes from the other games all get involved and we gotta punch gods in the face. It does rely on the reader knowing the basic game lore, but I wonder how it would read without that beforehand knowledge. hm. Stuff to ponder i suppose

Yes, the folders, the graveyard of ideas!

Although, maybe not a graveyard, more like a hall of fame: you will never touch them again, but you just like looking at them. And I can't force myself to just delete them - they are good pieces, I like them, they just don't fit anywhere!

The worst moment is when I've been super-motivated to write something, and it's been going nicely, but then one day I wake up, and I know it's over. It will never be finished. I'll never know how these characters resolve their world-ending situation, because me no write anymore.

I'm not very familiar with Dragon Age (I know of it, but I never played), but it sounds like you're putting a lot of work in it! Complicated lore always tends to be stressful in my case, so putting the contents of four series in one fic sound insanely impressive. And time travel on top of that, wow. (I honestly could never, I suck at using canon lore, I always end up with my own, so I am a little jealous lol)

I wish you the best of luck with getting all the way to punching gods in the face, that sounds like it's gonna be a long journey <3

Oh yes, definitely a hall of fame. They are so much fun to read, but then you remember a thing that you really liked about that version and you wonder if you should change your current version again to include that bit but it doesn't work and then you get sad. Sigh!

And yes! Waking up and the motivation is gone. Big oof. And I can't bring myself to publish an unfinished work! (If the motivation left me before the excited preemptive publishing stage.)(Currently beating that excitement back with a sledgehammer on my current project.) And usually, it takes all the motivation to write anything with it for months. And I know it's gonna be months before writing will strike me again. It'd be a miracle of the inspiration for the same story to make a come back. (The only exception is my novel work. That rattles around like a coin in a can.)

Thank you for the well wishes! Hopefully I get through it. I honestly can't handle writing things that aren't lore heavy. I don't know why? I do, actually. It's the world building. I love the world building. And how characters mesh into that world. But I'm lucky that this is a big enough fandom that if I have a question, someone already has the answer or I know exactly where to find it. (That's why I can't write dpxdc. Cause I don't know the lore. And I can't write something I don't know the lore to. What if I break canon? Or WORSE! I can't break canon intentionally)

I hope the motivation for your current works stick it through for you! I'm excited to see the pieces you end up publishing. I'm currently trying to force mine to stick around longer by not consuming anything that would grab my attention too much. (Like newly updated shows. There's a couple waiting for me and it's torture.)(Also can't touch the art. The art will suck away all of the creative juices)(Bad art) <3

Rip to everyone on this site who didn't realise they were following sleeper dragon age fans. The fandom is awakening from its deep slumber.

Should I revamp my dragon age fic? (no spoilers in post for DATV)

A long time ago, I started a fanfic called Warping the Veil (available on ao3) It was a sovellan fic based around the premise of Post trespassar Lavellan time travelling back to the beginning of Inquisition. (There's memory issues and stuff) But the thing is, Veilguard just came out. And the lore we learn in game is very similiar to the lore I made up for the fic! So it fits nicely and makes me want to include Rook and gang! And I wanted switch up the time line design and better include Other Events. I want to include the Hero of Fereldan (Ostagar's Banished Princess Origin, with Alistair romance), Purple Hawke (romanceless, poor thing), and Lavallen Inquisitor. Plus our new Rook! (Thinking of doing Triventer Elf (Lucanis romance). Cause that works well with Dorian's shit but it's the only playthrough I've done so far so I don't know for sure!)
